Taryn Ashway Named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year



Heartbreakers Hall of Famer Taryn Ashway was named Atlantic 10 Conference Pitcher of the Year.  Ashway set the Saint Joseph’s University single-season record for wins this season as she posted a record of 26-3 with an ERA 1.62 over 194.1 innings of work. The senior from Waynesboro, Pa., also added three saves and posted four shutouts this season, with three of them occurring in conference play. Her 172 strikeouts this season also led the A-10 and placed her fifth on the single-season list at Saint Joseph’s.

Heartbreakers Catcher Allysen Breeden has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her softball and academic career at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ.  Rider competes in the DI Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.  She joins HB Hall of Famer Desiree Harbaugh as the second HB player to go to Rider.  Allysen will graduate from North Hagerstown High School in June of 2011.  Congratulations, Al!

Erin McNally Named Player of the Week in CAC
Freshman pitcher/outfielder Erin McNally of the Hood College softball team has earned the Capital Athletic Conference athlete of the week award for the week ending April 11. Erin started all 10 games for the Blazers and hit .452 with eight runs scored and nine RBI in a 6-4 week.  Congratulations, Erin!

Anders Named Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Week

Freshman pitcher Kim Anders was named Pitcher of the Week for the Conference Carolinas for her performance in the first week of the season.  She led Belmont Abbey to wins over Glenville State and Pfeiffer.  She struck out 16 batters in 17 1/3 innings with a 0.52 ERA.  Congratulations, Kim!

Mills Leads Salisbury to World Series
Kelsey SU Regional Champs

HB Hall of Famer Kelsey Mills led the Salisbury University Seagulls to the DIII College World Series with her play in the regionals at Salisbury this past weekend.  SU took the tough road working their way through the loser's bracket but winning 5 straight games for the regional title.  

For the tournament, she was 5-0, she pitched 31 innings and struck out 15 batters and allowed four runs (three earned) en route to a 0.68 ERA. She was one of four Sea Gulls named to the all-tournament team.

Salisbury begins play in the World Series on Friday, May 19, at 6:30 PM at Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ.  The Sea Gulls will face Coe College from Cedar Rapids, Iowa in their first game.

C/3B Rochelle Christman signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her softball and academic career at DI Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia, PA.  Rochelle will graduate from Greencastle Antrim High School in June.  She received a full scholarship to play for Coach Terri Adams.  Saint Joseph's is a member of the Atlantic 10 conference and placed 4th in the league last year.  Rochelle is playing in her second season with the Heartbreakers.  She will join Heartbreakers teammate Taryn Ashway as freshmen next year.  Congratulations, Chris!

Kyle Named MAAC 2nd Team All Conference

Heartbreakers Hall of Fame outfielder Erin Kyle was named All Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference 2nd Team for her play with the Iona Gaels this spring.  Kyle was third on the squad with a .277 batting average. Her 33 hits were the second highest total on the squad. She scored a team-best 19 runs and tied for the team lead with three home runs.  Kyle also hit two doubles and drove in 11 runs as while starting all but one game for the Gaels in centerfield.  

Besides her on the field honors, Erin was named to the 2nd team All District ESPN The Magazine All American Academic team.  She was also named Iona College Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.  She also earned MAAC All-Academic Honors.  Erin is a Biology major and has a 3.97 GPA.  Congratulations, E!

HB Hall of Fame 3B/1B/C Kendall Blumenthal was named to the All American East Conference 2nd Team for her play at Stony Brook University this year.  Blumenthal is  having a career season, posting personal bests in every offensive category. Filling the designated player slot for most of the season, she has been key to the Seawolves success, ranking fifth on the team in RBI with 26.

HB Hall of Famer Katie Renner was named ‘Rookie of the Week' after hitting .750 last week with an .800 on-base percentage in the CACC Tournament.  Renner went 3-4 at the plate with a home run and three RBIs in an elimination-game victory over #1 tournament seeded Dominican College.  She also drove in nine runs for the week and hit four doubles with four runs scored.

HB Hall of Famer Kelsey Mills was named the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III National Player of the Week for the week ending March 22.  Her outstanding week helped put Salisbury University back in the NFCA Top 25 poll at #21.

Kelsey Mills CAC Player of Week

Heartbreakers Hall of Famer and Salisbury University sophomore pitcher Kelsey Mills was named the CAC Softball Player of the Week after throwing no-hitters on consecutive days and helping the defending champion Sea Gulls to a 5-0 record. Mills was an error away from a perfect game against SUNY-Plattsburgh, where she fanned nine in a complete-game effort. Later that day, she picked up her first save of the season against 23rd-ranked Ithaca. The following day, Mills struck out a career-high 13 batters and walked just one in a no-hitter against SUNY-Geneseo. She also chipped in a hit and a run scored in two at bats against SUNY-Geneseo. For the week, she threw 15 hitless and scoreless innings and struck out 23.

Heartbreakers Hall of Fame Pitcher Lexi Myers has been named as a full-time Assistant Coach at DI Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee.  Lipscomb competes in the Altantic Sun Conference.  Lexi played for the Heartbreakers in 2001 and 2002.  She played 4 years at DI Campbell University in North Carolina.  She has been a Graduate Assistant for the last two years at Lipscomb where she obtained her Master's Degree in Education Administration.  Congratulations, Lexi!

HB Red Hall of Famer Katie Davis was named as an Assistant Coach at Shippensburg University. Katie played for HB Red from 1999-2002. She recently graduated from Fordham University in New York City with a degree in Psychology. She was named 1st Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference oufielder in 2006. She was also the A-10 Player of the Year in 2005.

HB Red Hall of Famer Alison Higgs has been hired by Jacksonville University as an Assistant Softball Coach. Ali played for HB from 2000-2002. She graduated from Iona College in 2005. In 2004, she was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year. In 2005, she was named 1st Team All MAAC as well. She has played professionally for the NY Juggernaut and Philadelphia Force in 2005 and 2006.

LeEllen Lewis Named 2nd Team All Conference in CCC

Sophomore outfielder LeEllen Lewis (Brunswick, MD) was named as a All-Commonwealth Coast Conference Second Team selection. She was consistent at the plate and in centerfield. Lewis posted a .344 batting average, which is tied for second on the team and scored on 31 occasions. Lewis, who usually bats third in head coach Stephen Pappas’ lineup, delivered 45 hits along with three homeruns. She was second on the team in walks with 21 and carries the second highest slugging percentage with a .534 clip. She made just two errors in 70 chances for a .973 fielding percentage.

Katie Davis Named Player of the Week in Atlantic 10 Conference

Senior outfielder Katie Davis, last year's Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, hit an impressive .571 over four games, collecting eight hits, three doubles, and seven RBI. She had three multi-hit games and finished with a .600 on-base percentage and 1.000 slugging percentage. Davis did most of her damage on Sunday in a sweep of Dayton, as she went 5-for-9 with two doubles, a home run, and six RBI.

Heartbreakers Red Hall of Famers Liz Hammel and Katie Davis were named to the 2005 ECAC Division I All Star Team. Hammel, a recent graduate of Iona College in New Rochelle, NY, was also named the Player of the Year in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Liz leaves this Sunday for Europe to compete with the Athletes International Softball Team. Davis, a junior at Fordham University in the Bronx, NY, was named the Player of the Year in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Hammel Named First Team All MAAC

Heartbreakers Hall of Famer and current Iona College Junior Liz Hammel was named First Team All Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference for the 2004 season. She made 47 hits in 142 at-bats, scoring 21 runs with a team-high 29 RBI. Hammel's .331 batting average placed her third on the team. Liz really excelled in conference play as she hit .423 with 4 homeruns and 14 RBI in 16 games. Liz also had a great year in the classroom as she was selected to the New York Lottery All-Academic Team. In order to be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution, be a significant starter or reserve and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. She was also selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team. She was one of only two MAAC players selected for this honor. Hammel, a Biology major, has earned an overall 3.56 GPA in three years at Iona. Congratulations, Liz!

Heartbreakers Hall of Famer and current sophmore at Fordham University Katie Davis was named First Team All Atlantic-10 for the 2004 season. Davis, who has started all 58 games for the Rams this year, is hitting a team-high .365 (62-170). She set not only the Fordham single-season home run record this year but also set Fordham’s career record with 13 round trippers. Davis also has nine doubles, one triple and a team-high 35 RBIs. The 35 RBIs is also a Fordham single-season record as are her 62 hits, 39 runs scored and 112 total bases. She leads the Atlantic 10 in hits and total bases, is tied for the lead in home runs, is second in RBIs, and is third in batting average. Her 13 homeruns also tied the Atlantic-10 single season home run record. Congratulations, Katie!

Higgs Named Player of the Year in MAAC

Heartbreakers Hall of Famer and current Iona College Junior Alison Higgs was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year for the 2004 season. Higgs led the league with her .400 batting average while contributing a conference-best 60 hits and 34 runs scored. She also tallied 23 RBI in 47 games for the Gaels this season. Higgs finished second in the MAAC with her 1.37 earned run average, going 22-9 on the mound for the Maroon and Gold. She struck out 173 batters in 219.1 innings of work. Higgs was also named to the All-MAAC First Team as a utility player. When she wasn't dominating the softball fields in the MAAC, she took care of business in the classroom as she was named to the New York Lottery All-Academic Team. In order to be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution, be a significant starter or reserve and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Heartbreakers Red Hall of Famer Sarah Ramsburg was named 2nd Team All-Northeast Conference for the 2004 season. Ramsburg, a sophomore right fielder, paced the Mount in batting average (.310), hits (39), runs (20) and steals (17). She ranked second in plate appearances with 126 and added five RBIs and two doubles in 42 games played. Congratulations, Sarah!

Heartbreakers Hall of Famer and current freshman outfielder at Iona College Alex Sprague was named to the Second Team All Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference team announced today. The one-time Rookie-of-the-Week was fourth on the team with a .315 batting average. She tallied 35 hits in 111 at-bats. Sprague led the Gaels with seven stolen bases in the season. Ramsburg Named Top Female Athlete of Week at Mount
Sarah Ramsburg
Heartbreakers Hall of Famer and Mount St. Mary's sophomore Sarah Ramsburg (Union Bridge, Md./Walkersville), a member of the softball team, was named the Mount Female Athlete of the Week. Ramsburg hit .458 with three runs scored and three stolen bases during the week. Sarah finished the season with a .310 batting average and led the Northeast Conference in stolen bases with 17.

Outfielder LeEllen Lewis has committed to continue her softball career at the collegiate level at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. LeEllen batted .321 with a .412 on-base average in the 2003 season.

Lolli Mills signed a DI National Letter of Intent with Iona College in New Rochelle, New York. Lolli is coming off an excellent year with the Heartbreakers Red where she hit .318 with a .576 slugging percentage. She had 4 homers and 20 RBI. She will be joining former HB Red players Liz Hammel, Alison Higgs, and Alex Sprague at Iona.

Hammel Named Player of the Week in the MAAC

Heartbreakers Hall of Famer and Iona College Junior Liz Hammel (Frederick, MD) earned MAAC Player of the Week honors for her stellar performance in the Gaels 4-2 week it was announced today. Hammel becomes the second Iona player this season earn a MAAC weekly accolade. Hammel raised her average 65 points to .349 with 13 hits in 21 at-bats (.619 batting average) for the Gaels in doubleheaders against St. Francis (NY), Fairfield and Rider. She scored six runs, had eight RBI, and slugged two doubles and her first two home runs of the year. In Iona's doubleheader sweep of Rider, she was 5-for-6 with two home runs and five RBI and drove in the game-winning run in both contests.

Davis Named Player of the Week in A-10 Again!
Heartbreakers Red Hall of Famer and current Fordham Ram Katie Davis was named Player of the Week in the Atlantic 10 Conference. It is the 3rd time she has been named Player of the Week this season. On the year, Davis leads the Rams with a .427 batting average, 29 runs scored, 10 home runs, and 26 RBI.

Burdette Named Pitcher of the Week in MAAC
Heartbreakers Hall of Famer Amy Burdette was named the Pitcher of the Week in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Burdette, a senior at Iona College, had a stellar week, tossing two complete games and posting a 2-0 record while allowing just two unearned runs. She earned her first win of the season with a 2-0 shutout over Fairfield. Burdette struck out seven Stag batters while allowing just four hits.

Burdette Named 2nd Team All-MAAC
Senior pitcher/outfielder Amy Burdette (Heartbreakers 1994-2000) was named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) 2nd Team. Burdette was the anchor of the Gaels pitching staff that led the MAAC in pitching this season. She posted a 7-13 record with a 1.71 ERA. Burdette recorded five shutouts while striking out 104 batters in 147.2 innings pitched. In MAAC contests, she posted a 4-5 record with a miniscule 0.88 ERA. in 71.2 innings, she allowed just 13 runs, nine earned.

Paterson Honored by PSAC

Heartbreakers Hall of Fame Catcher Janet Paterson was honored by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference as she was selected to the Western Division 2nd Team. Currently, she is hitting .298 with 21 RBI.

Janet's Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania softball team (35-13) has earned a berth into the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional softball championship Thursday, May 9th through Sunday, May 12th.


Higgs and Burdette Earn All-MAAC Honors

Current Heartbreakers' pitcher/outfielder Alison Higgs and Heartbreakers' Hall of Fame pitcher Amy Burdette were named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All Conference 2nd Team.

Burdette, a junior, was one of the Gaels top pitchers, ranking first on the team with 11 wins in 23 appearances, including 16 starts. She pitched 117.2 innings, yielding just 112 hits, while striking out 74. Higgs, a freshman, led the team in ERA, posting a microscopic 1.02 mark in 12 appearances on the mound. She struck out 89 batters in 75.2 innings, while walking just 12. At the plate, Higgs batted .291 with a home run and 13 RBI, while slugging .410.

Higgs Named Rookie of Week in MAAC

March 25 -- The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced today that Iona College softball freshman Alison Higgs (Hagerstown, MD) earned MAAC Rookie of the Week Honors for her performance at the JMU Invitational in Harisonburg, VA last week.

Higgs led the Gaels offensively at the tournament last week serving as the leadoff hitter for all six games. The right fielder registered a .450 batting average and a team-high .560 on-base percentage. She currently leads the squad in hits (9) and doubles (3) as the Gaels advanced to the finals of the tournament.

Higgs also tossed a two-hitter against St. Francis (PA) in Iona’s 8-1 win in the semifinals. In her first collegiate pitching appearance, Higgs struck out a Gael season high 13 batters while walking only one.


Hammel Named Rookie of the Week in the MAAC

New Rochelle, NY (4/8)-- The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced today that Iona College softball freshman Liz Hammel (Frederick, MD) has been named MAAC Rookie of the Week Honors for her performance in the Gaels eight games last week.

Hammel batted .318 overall (7-for-22), but was 5-for 11 (.455) in four MAAC games last weekend. Her seven hits included two doubles and her first career home run in the second game of Sunday's sweep of St. Peter's. The home run proved to be the game winner in a 6-5 win over the Peahens.

Hammel is second on the team with a .365 overall batting average. Her 23 hits is tied for the team lead. She is top two in several offensive categories including doubles (7- 1st), RBI (14), and slugging pct. (.524).

Hammel becomes the second Gael/Heartbreaker to win the award as teammate Alison Higgs (Hagerstown, MD) was honored two weeks ago.

Higgs Named Rookie of the Week, Again!
New Rochelle, NY (4/15)-- The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced today that Iona College softball freshman Alison Higgs (Hagerstown, MD) earned her second MAAC Rookie of the Week honor this season for her performance versus Stony Brook, St. John's and Niagara last weekend.

Higgs compiled a 1.91 era in two appearances including a complete game three-hit performance against MAAC Niagara University in a 4-1 win in the second game of the double header. Higgs struck out eight batters and walked only one in the win.

Offensively, Higgs started in the leadoff position for five of six games batting .250 with three RBI and a double. In conference play, Higgs was 3-for-8 (.375). She had both game-winning RBI in the sweep of Niagara.


Dinkel Named to MAAC Tournament Team

Heartbreakers' Hall of Famer Claire Dinkel was named to the 2002 MAAC Conference All-Tournament Team. Claire hit .375 in the tournament to finish her college softball career. Claire played for the Heartbreakers Red from 1995 until 1999.

Dinkel and Burdette Named to MAAC All-Academic Team
EDISON, NJ - Hall of Fame Heartbreakers Claire Dinkel and Amy Burdette were named to the 2002 MAAC Softball All-Academic Team, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced today.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution, be a significant starter or reserve and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Dinkel, a senior majoring in Business Administration holds a 3.72 GPA while Burdette, a junior Accounting major, has a 3.88 GPA. Congratulations!

Claire graduated from Iona College in May with a degree in Business Administration.

Mills Named Rookie of the Week in the MAAC

Heartbreakers Red Catcher/Infielder Lolli Mills was named Rookie of the Week in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. She led Iona with a .417 batting average with five hits in 12 at-bats. She had two hits in each end of Iona's doubleheader sweep of Army. Mills reached base twice in Iona's win at Seton Hall via a hit and a walk. Congratulations, Lolli!

Katie Davis Named Player of Year in A-10

Katie Davis was named the Atlantic 10's Player of the Year at the A-10 Banquet held on Wednesday. Davis enters this weekend’s Atlantic 10 Championship among the top five in most of the major offensive categories in the Atlantic 10 - hits (55), average (.364), runs (38), doubles (14), home runs (13), RBI (41), and total bases (108). She leads the league in home runs, doubles and total bases and her .364 batting average is tops on her team and second in the Conference. She tied the A-10 and Fordham record for home runs in a season and was a two-time A-10 Player of the Week. For her two year career, Davis has already set the Fordham career record for home runs (26) and RBI (76). Congratulations, Katie!

Liz Hammel Named Player of the Year in the MAAC
Liz Player of the Week

Senior infielder Liz Hammel was named the Player of the Year for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference at the MAAC Awards Banquet today. 

Hammel is in the midst of a stellar season and is currently tied for second in the league with her .400 batting average, while contributing a conference-best .519 on-base percentage. She has tallied 48 hits, 31 runs scored and 35 RBI in 42 games. In conference play, Hammel leads all MAAC players with an incredible .516 batting average (21-for-41). Congratulations, Liz!!


Higgs Garners More Honors

The awards continue to pour in for senior Pitcher Alison Higgs. She was named to the All MAAC Second Team and the 2005 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District I First Team.

Higgs was tops in the MAAC in conference wins with her 11-1 record and was 17-6 overall. She ranked second in the conference in overall (1.24) and conference (0.97) ERA while striking out 141 batters in 130.1 innings pitched.

As an Academic All-District I First Teamer, she will all now advance on to the national ballot for the 2005 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American Team. Higgs has had an outstanding year, both in the classroom and on the field. The senior pitcher has led the Gaels to the most conference wins in a season, by any team in MAAC history, all while carry a 3.56 GPA as a management major. Congratulations, Ali!!

HB Red Hall of Famer Alison Higgs was named this week's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week after going 3-0 in as the Gaels went a perfect 4-0 for the week. The Gaels picked up doubleheaders sweeps last week over both Stony Brook and Saint Peter's. Higgs, a senior at Iona, was 3-0 this past week, picking up all three wins in relief for the Gaels. In 16.1 innings pitched, she posted a 0.43 ERA, allowed just one run, scatted seven hits and struck out 18 batters. Higgs came on in relief in both ends of Iona's doubleheader sweep of Saint Peter's to earn the victories. The reigning MAAC Player of the Year, Higgs currently leads the MAAC in both wins (8) and ERA (1.17).

Katie Davis, Heartbreaker Red Hall of Famer and a Junior at Fordham University, was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for the second time this season. Davis hit .429 on the week (9-for-21) with eight runs scored, four doubles, a home run and five RBI, including a 8-for-13 performance in Conference play…had a .762 slugging percentage on the week…hit her 13th home run of the season against George Washington (4/22) tying the Fordham and Atlantic 10 single season records for home runs…went 3-for-3 with four runs scored in a game one win over George Washington… Currently leads the team with a .356 batting average, 11 doubles, and 13 home runs.

Hammel and Higgs Shine Again in MAAC
HB Red Hall of Famers Liz Hammel and Ali Higgs continued to dominate the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference last week. Senior 2B Liz Hammel (Frederick, MD) and Senior LHP Alison Higgs (Hagerstown, MD) were named MAAC Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. Hammel had a phenomenal week reaching base 11 of the 12 times she came up to bat (0.917 OBP) including five hits in six at bats (0.833). She hit two home runs, scored three runs, drove in four more and recorded six walks in Iona's 3-0 week. Her slugging percentage came in at 1.833 with 11 total bases in the six at-bats. In game two of the doubleheader with Fairfield, Hammel hit a monstrous home run in the first inning that gave the Gaels the lead for good. Higgs picked up all three wins in Iona's 3-0 week. She did not allow a run while scattering 10 hits and striking out 15 in 13.1 innings pitched. Higgs earned two complete game shutouts of Marist and Fairfield. In her one relief appearance, she came on with two-on and two-out in the top of the seventh and recorded a strikeout to end a Fairfield rally in an eventual win for Iona.

Alison Higgs Signs with Juggernaut of National Pro Fastpitch
Ali with Juggernaut
HB Red Hall of Famer and recent Iona College graduate Alison Higgs signed with the NY Juggernaut of the National Pro Fastpitch League. The Juggernaut won the league championship in 2004 and the team is coached by 1996 Gold Medal winner Julie Smith. In her first game action, Ali was hit by a pitch and collected her first hit as a professional. Ali finished her collegiate career at Iona College this year where she holds Iona career records offesnsively in at bats and runs scored and in the pitching circle with wins and strikeouts.

Davis, Hammel, and Higgs Named NFCA First Team All-Region

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced the Louisville Slugger Division I All Region teams, honor student athletes from nine NFCA Regions.  Heartbreakers Hall of Famers Katie Davis (junior at Fordham University) and Liz Hammel and Ali Higgs (seniors at Iona College) were all named to the First Team All-Northeast Region. 

Davis, the 2005 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and a 2nd Team All-Region pick last year, finished the A-10 Championship amond the top five in most of the major offensive categories in the A-10 including hits (58), average (.356), runs (41), doubles (14), home runs (14), RBI (43), and total bases (114).  She led the league in Homeruns, doubles, and total bases and was 3rd in average.  She set the A-10 record for home runs in a season.  For her career, she has already set the Fordham career record for home runs (27) and RBI (78).  

Hammel, the 2005 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year, led the team with a .385 batting average including a school record 12 home runs and 36 RBI.  She also set school records with a .746 slugging percentage and 33 walks as a senior.  

Higgs, the 2004 MAAC Player of the Year, batted .282 and was 2nd on the team with 8 homers along with 22 RBI.  She was among the MAAC's top pitchers with an 18-7 overall record and a 1.33 ERA.  She struck out 154 batters in 142.1 innings.

Katie Davis, senior at Fordham University, was named to the Atlantic 10 Conference First Team for the 2nd year in a row. Davis, last year's A-10 Player of the Year, had a stellar senior season with a .326 batting average with 8 homeruns and 36 RBI. She leads the Rams into the A-10 tournament which begins on May 11. Great job, Katie.

Lewis Named to All-Conference Team

Freshman outfielder LeEllen Lewis was named All-Conference 2nd Team by the Commonwealth Coast Conference. She finished the season tied for the CCC lead with six triples, and was seventh in the conference with her .368 batting average. Lewis also ended the year ranked among the CCC leaders in slugging percentage, on base percentage, and runs batted in.   LeEllen is playing in her 3rd season with the Heartbreakers Red. Congratulations, LeE!

HB Red Hall of Fame outfielder LeEllen Lewis was named First Team All Commonwealth Coast Conference for her play in the 2007 season. LeEllen currently has a .471 batting average with 10 doubles, 10 triples, 4 homers, and 48 RBI. She led her Roger Williams University team to a 32-12 record heading into the Eastern College Athletic Conference Tournament which begins Wednesday, May 9. Congratulations to LeE!!

Brandenburg Named to All Tournament Team

HB Red pitcher Alicia Brandenburg helped lead the Shepherd University softball team to the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title on May 5. Alicia was named to the All Tournament team. She fired a 3 hit shutout with 4 strikeouts over Concord and a 1 hit shutout with 5 strikeouts against perennial powerhouse Alderson-Broaddus in the semi-final game. By winning the WVIAC tournament, Shepherd qualifies for the DII Regionals in Illinois which begin later this week. Congratulations, Alicia!!
