Monday, December 1
We have two exciting events coming up!

First, on Saturday, December 13th, we are having our team (and individual) pictures taken at the Y before our dual meet against Hagerstown YMCA. Please plan to be at the YMCA by 9:00 a.m. if you wish to have individual pictures taken. Please plan to be there by 10:00 a.m. for group pictures. We will also decorate our cars and drive as a team to Hagerstown for the meet. "Sprit Bags" will be on sale that morning.

On Sunday, January 18 (MLK weekend, so schools are closed on Monday), we are having a swim team sleep over/swim-a-thon at the YMCA. Swimmers must be picked up by 7 a.m. Swimmers who do not want to sleep over, but who still want to swim, must leave by 11:00 p.m. (and can swim from 9:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m.). Those who sleep over can swim from 9 p.m. until 3 a.m. There will be designated lifeguards, chaperones, separate gymnasiam for boys and girls to sleep, and designated areas for food. Swimmers will be expected to bring pledge sheet and all flat fees when they come. More details on this event will follow.

Outstanding Fees

Attached is a list of all outstanding swim team dues. They must be paid by the end of the week or the swimmer will be suspended from all practices .  If you have any question regarding the amount, please contact me directly, and not the front desk, so I can clearly explain the balance.  If you notice that your name is not on the list, please let me know; I have blacked out some names until I clear up some registration issues with those members.  This list is current as of 10 a.m. this morning (11-5-08).

Updates on Swim Team

A couple of updates from Coach Adam:

Practice Groups: I will have the new practice groups posted by Monday night.

Waitlist and new swimmer hopefuls: I unfortunately have no good news at this time.  I do know that due to the updated construction timeline I will not be able add as many swimmers to the team at the beginning of the season as I’d hope too.  We will be keeping the team roster at 120 swimmers, which means I’ll be able to bring in about 15 new swimmers.  I will have that list posted on the web site no later then Monday night.  The good news is that I might be able to bring in an additional 30 swimmers once the existing pool finishes its renovations.  So, there is the possibility of a mid-season add, more information on this in later updates.

Construction Update:  The new therapy pool, which was scheduled to open on August 18th ,has been pushed back to the end of Sept. right before we start swim team.  This means we will be without our main 6-lane pool for about 8-12 weeks barring any major unforeseen problems.  We will have the new, smaller pool. I have 3 plans in development to compensate for lost pool time.

A.      A rotating schedule where each practice group will be broken into 2-3 teams.  The teams will rotate between 2-3 stations; Dryland, Pool, and/or running.

B.      Renting: I am pricing out local pools to rent.

C.      Bubbling an outdoor pool: I hope to find an outdoor pool willing to be bubbled (tented or domed) for the winter.

No matter what happens, the coaching staff and I will provide the best possible program we can under the unique and difficult circumstances we find ourselves in.  At this time I do not want people worrying about what is going to happen; I have the bet interest of this team in mind and am working very hard to find a solution to our situation.  I will post weekly updates to the progress of the swim season.  We have a strong backing from the Y and I will always work hard to make sure our kids get the best program possible.

Please, please, please DO NOT call the Y and ask the front desk for information as they DO NOT KNOW.  I will provide you all the information you need.  There will be a team; there will be practice.  The first 1-2 months might be difficult, but the reward will be an amazing facility.  I will thank you in advance for your understanding in this matter.
