Cougar bats come to life in 6th

Campbell lead 2-0 on 1 hit through 5 innings while their Ace, Connor Sahlin was throwing a no-hitter at the Hawks.  With 2 outs in the top of the 6th Nate Greabe walked and with a 3-2 count on Sam McManus, Sahlin   tryed to sneak another fastball by the All-State player and McManus hit an absolute bomb to right center (Campbell Coach Jim Gorham said "it is the longest homerun he has ever seen hit to that part of the Cougar park)  Sahlin lost his composure for a second and hit Matt McCormack but picked him off of 1st base 3 pitches later to kill the rally.  In the bottom of the sixth inning Hopkinton ace Sam Bonifant had his own gem going, allowing only 1 hit and 2 runs, Campbell got their second hit between to flyouts.  Jay White just missed doubling off a Cougar runner at 1st that would have ended the inning but it didn't happen and Campbell went wild at the plate.  The next 6 Campbell hitters collected hits off of Bonifant including a 2 run homer and a 3 run homer, after a walk and another double Bonifant left the game giving up 9 hits and 11 runs.  Give Campbell credit, other than the first homerun that just got over the Campbell wall in left (routine flyball) the rest of their hits were well stroked.  Joe MacDonald came in for Bonifant and after surrendering a walk and a double got a strike out to end the inning.  Hawks went quietly in the 7th.  Hopkinton is now 2-1 and plays Kearsarge Monday.

Wednesday, April 11
McManus and Legier combined to No-Hit Bow 11-1

Sam McManus threw 4 innings and Harry Legier pitched the last 2 to combine on a No-Hitter over Bow.  The Hawks came out swinging collecting 5 doubles in the game to go with 8 singles and scored 11 runs.  Steve Auger played well both in the field as well as at the plate knocking in a pair of runs.  Nate Greabe, Colin O'Keeffe and Matt McCormack also finished with two hits each.  Liam McNicholas had a two rbi double in the second and scored 3 runs. Hawks are now 2-0.

The quarter-finals were not kind to the Hawks as they lost for the third time this season to Somersworth 13-1.  Junior Sam McManus had a hard time getting ahead of Somersworth batters allowing 5 runs (4 earned) in the first 2 innings and Junior Jay White gave up 2 solo homeruns in the 3rd and 4th innings.  Trailing 7-1 after 5 Somersworth exploaded for 3 homeruns and 6 runs in the bottom of the 6th to win the game.  Offensively freshman Jake Nelson knocked in the only Hawk run with a sacrifice fly in the second.  Jay White, Sam McManus, Colin O'Keeffe, Steve Auger and Nate Greabe each connected for 1 hit on the afternoon.  The Hawks return 16 players next season so the future looks bright.

The Hawks trailed 2-0 early and cut the lead in half with a McManus rbi single in the third inning.  Jimmy Angell led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch, Matt Gleason layed down a nice sacrifice bunt and Nate Greabe moved Angell over to 3rd with a ball hit to the right side.  McManus then pulled a 1-1 pitch over the 1st basemans head to plate Angell.

In the 5th inning the Hawks scored the tieing run as well as the winning run when Nate Greabe got hit by a pitch and went to 2nd on a wild pitch.  McManus once again had a hard rbi single up the middle and then stole 2nd base.  After a wild pitch Sam Bonifant hit a ball to the right side allowing McManus to score the winning run.

The Hawks play Campbell Monday in Litchfield at 4pm.

Friday, May 6

#2 Winnisquam "Bears" end #3 Hopkinton "Hawks" season 2-0 in Semi's
What happens when you have the number 2 seed Winnisquam "Bears" (17-2) vs the number 3 seed Hopkinton "Hawks" (16-2).  Simple, you have a pretty good baseball game.  That is what happened as Winnisquam got only 4 hits all game they just happened to all come in the fourth inning as they scored the only 2 runs that they would need to win the game and advance to the Championship game.  The Hawks loaded the bases in the first and put 2 runners on in the 6th inning but couldn't get on the board.  So for the second year in  a row Winnisquam has ended the Hawks season.  But what a season it was.

Hawks fall in quarter-finals to Winnisquam 7-4.  Spotting the Bears 5 runs in the bottom of the first inning was too much for a Hawks come back.  However it wasn't without a fight as the team scored 2 in the 2nd, and 1 in each the 5th and 6th to make the score 5-4.  Winnisquam slammed the door in the 6th with 3 runs and dashed the Hawk upset bid.

Great season guys, Good Luck Seniors.

Hawks drop a tough one to Mascenic 3-2.  Trailing 3-1 going into the sixth inning the Hawks got a rally going when Joe Merrow Walked and  Sam McManus doubled down the right field line.  Evan Levy pushed the ball down the right side to plate Merrow and advance McManus.  After a failed squeeze play the Hawks entered the 7th inning down only 3-2.  In the seventh the Hawks found themselves in the thick of things again as Nate Greabe walked and went to 3rd on a Kyle Hatch single.  A strike out and another missed squeeze shut down the rally.  Hawks are now 6-4 and play Hillsboro Wednesday.  Sam McManus and Frankie Beane each doubled and Hatch and Levy collected the other 2 Hawk hits.
