How we Started
soccthum.gif
Formed primarily from players from Bel Air Rec Travel, the Impact began practicing as at team in the fall of 1999. Our first league play came at the Maryland Sports Arena's Indoor League. We picked up several new players over the winter, and will enter the Fall, 2000 season with team members who have played with a wide variety of clubs and rec leagues. Ed Fraciowski is the head coach, with Doug Bowman as assitant coach, and Glen Kirchner as team manager.

STANDINGS
With three games remaining, HKSC Impact is in third place, one point behind BFC Stars and three points behind league leading Fallston Socrates. BFC tied their game this past week, allowing us to pull closer to them.

The three remaining games are against the Hickory Vipers, the Jarrettsville Flame, and our make up game versus Fallston Socrates. We will be on our home field for the first two games, and will travel to Fallston for the season finale.

IMPACT DEFEATS SOCRATES 3-0
Shaun Filson scored three goals to pace the Impact to a 3-0 victory over the league leading Fallston Socrates. In handing Fallston their first defeat of the season, the Impact improved their record to 3-2.

The Impact kept pressure on Socrates right from the outset, dominating play and allowing few quality scoring chances. The defense and keeper Jason Schaedel tallied their third shut out of the spring season. Midfield play was especially sharp in controlling the play and preventing the Fallston club from mounting many sustained runs.

The offense pressured the Fallston defense and Filson accounted for two goals off of passing plays in the box. His second goal was made on a breakaway from our eighteen, as Fallston tried to pressure the Impact, moving their defensive players inside the midline.

The game was labeled Silent Sunday by the HCSL, which meant that the team members were responsible for their on field communications. Verbal coaching from the sidelines was prohibited and parents were told to keep their encouragement in a non verbal form.

Our next game is on Sunday, May 20, vs the Hickory Lazers.

BFC over IMPACT 2-1
The Impact dominated play for most of the game, kept pressuring the BFC Stars' defense, and played a very stingy defense. In the end, however, two goals by the Stars early in the second half proved to be enough as they held on to defeat the IMPACT 2-1.

The Impact drew first blood when DJ Lane put a well placed corner kick in front of the goal, off of a defender's head, and into the net. The 1-0 lead stood through the first half.

The Stars opened the second half with two quick goals, forcing the Impact to play catch up. The offense created several quality chances, but were unable to capitalize.

There were plenty of positives, but in the end, the Impact fell to 2 and 2 in the spring league. Our next opponent is first place Fallston Socrates.

FIRST DEFEAT
Unable to overcome a sluggish start, the Harford Kicks Impact suffered their first defeat of the spring.

Brad Bishop scored his first IMPACT goal in the second period to register the lone point.

SECOND SPRING WIN
While holding the Jarrettsville Flames to just five shots, the Harford Kicks Impact scored two second half goals en route to their second straight spring season win. Defensively, Impact players dominated the game, allowing few quality chances for Jarrettsville to score. The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half.

About mid-way through the second half Sean Filson took a pass from Anthony Mohr to net the first score of the game. The insurance goal came on a nifty header by John Gudenzi off of an Austin Bass assist.

Team play and ball control continued to improve as the game progressed.

In other league action, Abingdon defeated the Hickory Vipers 1-0; and the Stars and Socrates did not play. Our next game is on April 22nd, against the Abingdon Football Club.

IMPACT VICTORY IN SPRING SEASON OPENER
Battling a pesky Hickory Vipers team and soggy field conditions, the Harford Kicks Impact won the HCSL spring opener with a 1-0 victory. Anthony Mohr's goal off of a Viper defender, midway through the second period, proved to be the only score needed in a game that saw the IMPACT dominate most of the play.

The field conditions were the direct cause of several well placed shots not finding the net. Mud and water combined to bring several balls to a complete stop just before crossing.

Other high points included excellent passing, and good defensive play. Keeper Jason Schaedel preserved the shut out and the midfielders and stoppers kept the ball primarily in the Viper's zone. Team play was particular strong, especially considering the addition of several new players.

In other league play, long time rivals, Fallston Socrates won 4-0 over the AFC Devils; and the BFC Stars defeated JFC Flames.

Our next game is Sunday, at 2:00 versus the JFC Flames.

IMPACT SET TO PLAY SPRING SOCCER
The Harford Kicks Impact is registered with the Harford County Soccer League to play in the Spring 2001 session. The league includes familiar opponents: AFC Devils, Havre de Grace Bombers, Fallston Socrates, Forest Hill, Hickory Vipers, and at least two BFC teams.

More information is forthcoming, or you can check out Harford's website at www.hcsl.org.

First Indoor Session Ends
The Impact finished the first session of Indoor Soccer at Maryland Sports Arena. The team posted a winning record and third place in the session ending tournament.

IMPACT DEFEATS HICKORY SOCCER CLUB
A well-played team effort led to a strong 4-2 victory in the young indoor soccer season.
Playing Hickory Soccer Club, after a long layoff, the Impact combined timely scoring and tough defense for their second win in as many games.

Bryan Bowman, Ben Fraczkowski, Anthony Mohr, and Alex Kirchner scored, but it was an all around team effort that gave the Impact their impressive win.

IMPACT DEFEAT HICKORY
While the Impact offense continues to put up impressive numbers, scoring a league high six goals in Sunday's game, the defensive play of the team has continued to improve. Often an overlooked aspect of soccer, the IMPACT team is tied for fewest goals allowed (6) and tied for most shutouts(3). Keeper Jason Schaedel anchors the defense, which also includes DJ Lane, Sam Flynn, Jim Ryan,
Aaron Seipp, Hal Reader, and Bryan Bowman. Improved defensive play by the midfielders has also been a contributing factor to the impressive defensive statistics.

Sunday's match with the Hickory Vipers was very much the opposite of the season opening
1-0 win on a rain-soaked field. The Impact finished six shots and dominated play in their end.

Sean Filson, the team's scoring leader, put in two goals, giving him five in the past two contests. Austin Bass also had a pair. John Gudenzi and Ben Fraczkowski also contributed to the scoring.

Our next opponent is the JFC Flames. Firmly lodged in third place, the Impact is only one point behind the second place BFC Stars, and just three points behind first place Fallston Socrates. The Stars and Socrates meet on June 3rd. Next week is a "bye" week in honor of Memorial Day.

TRYOUTS
The Harford Kicks Impact U-13 boys team will be holding open tryouts on June 7, 8, and 12 at Southampton Middle School. Tryouts for this club team will begin at 6:00. Please call Ed at 410 638 5219 or Doug at 410 879 7569 if you have any questions.

FIRST PLACE IS ON THE LINE
It comes down to the final game this Sunday versus Fallston Socrates. Locked in a tie for first place, the IMPACT controls their own destiny as they visit Fallston for a make up of the first game of the season, cancelled due to weather. Fallston is coming off of a defeat at the hands of the BFC Stars.

The two teams met three weeks ago, with the IMPACT winning 3-0.

SPRING SEASON ENDS
The spring 2001 season ended with a 1-0 loss to Fallston Socrates. With the loss, the IMPACT finished the season in third place, posting a 5-3 record.

We have already begun the registration process for fall, and will be playing in the Baltimore Beltway Soccer League and the Harford County Soccer League.

Improved offensive play coupled with tough defense as the Impact played competitively in every game.

TRYOUTS COMPLETE
With tryouts completed on June 12, the Harford Kicks Impact added several new members to the squad. Look for an updated roster over the next few weeks.

The first practice will be on June 17 at Southampton Middle School. Contact Coach Ed, Mark, or Doug if you are unable to attend.

Have a safe and happy Fourth of July.

FUNDRAISING ACTIVITY
The team members of Harford Kicks Impact joined parents and siblings for a car wash on Sunday, June 24th, at the Mobil station in Rocks Spring Shopping Center. We raised $400.00 which will be split between the general fund and the boys' individual accounts.

A special thanks to the Mobil station for use of the facilities and water.

Also, our summer Joe Corbi's pizza drive has begun. Please contact Suzanne Bowman if you haven't received forms or if you have any questions. Watch the website for upcoming deadlines for this drive.

PIZZA SALE A SUCCESS
Our Joe Corbi's summer pizza sale was very successful, netting the team $885.00. This has been our highest total yet, even going back to our BEL AIR REC TRAVEL days.

Mark Kolthof and family sold the most at 21 kits, with Ryan Jackman's family in second with 20. The Fraczkowski family came in third with seventeen.

BASKET BINGO UPDATE

PRACTICES BEGIN
Stressing fundamentals and team play, the Harford Kicks Impact has been weekly practice sessions in preparation for Fall play and upcoming tournaments.

The team has focused on trapping, heading, and positioning, with small sided scrimmages coming at the end of each practice.

The boys are working well as a team, and communication between players seems to be very strong.

FALL LEAGUES FORMING
The Harford Kicks Impact will once again participate in the Baltimore Beltway Soccer League on Saturday, and the Harford County Soccer League on Sundays, starting in September.

In the HCSL, we will square up against many familiar opponents: Hickory Lazers, Fallston Socrates, Abingdon Devils and the JFC Flames. The spring league was very competitive and we look for the fall league to be equally well-played.

Schedules for both the BBSL and the HCSL are pending.

7-0 Win Over Hickory Opens Fall 2001 Season
Stifling defense and a dominating offense led to a 7-0 victory in the first Baltimore Beltway Soccer League game of the Fall, 2001 season. The Impact dominated Hickory from the start, but only were able to mount a 1-0 lead at halftime. Sean Filson scored on a long range shot from the eighteen to give the Impact a lead. Sean continued his scoring with a second goal in the second half, and completed the hat trick with his third goal late in the game. Ryan Jackman contributed two goals; Anthony Mohr and first half goalie Adam Sedlak each had a goal.

A great defensive effort limited Hickory to only two shots the whole game. In all it was a strong team effort to open the Fall soccer season.

5-2 WIN OVER FOREST HILL
Five different players scored in a strong 5-2 victory over Forest Hill in HCSL action. Austin Bass, Mark Kalthof, Brad Bishop, Sean Filson and Ben Fraczkowski netted goals for the IMPACT. Strong defense and timely goalkeeping by Adam Sedlak and Ryan Hunton also figured in the victory which gave the team a sweep of their weekend games.

Win Over Jarrettsville Gives Impact League Lead
In a battle of two undefeated teams in the HCSL, the IMPACT defeated the Jarrettsville Flame 2-0. Held scoreless in the first half, the Impact broke through in the second period to take a 1-0 lead. Tenacious defense and timely play by keeper Adam Sedlak kept the Flames from mounting any serious threats. An insurance goal was added with ten minutes to play, assurring the victory. The Impact and Flames will meet again in both BBSL and HCSL play.

Our next opponent will be Abingdon, a team that upset us this past spring.

1-1 Tie with Crofton Eagles
A tough Crofton Eagles team thrwarted numerous scoring efforts to earn a tie with the Harford Kicks Impact. Even though they dominated much of the play, the Impact could manage only one goal on a breakaway by LJ DiMarche, with three minutes remaining in the first period. The midfielders and defense allowed few shots on goal, playing a well organized game.

The Impact record in the Saturday BBSL league now goes to 3-0-1. Crofton moves to 1-1-2.

5-1 WIN OVER AFC
The Harford Kicks Impact kept their HCSL winning streak alive with a 5-1 win over the Abingdon Football Club. The score did not properly reflect the tough physical game that was played between these two Harford County rivals.

The IMPACT scored first when Brad Bishop drilled a well placed crossing pass from LJ DiManche into the back of the net. The score held up through the period with the IMPACT dominating midfield play. Finally, AFC scored in the waning minutes of the first half, netting a goal off of an indirect penalty kick.

After invoking last Spring's upset loss to AFC, the IMPACT came out in the second period and controlled the ball, allowing only two shots on goal. Sean Filson put the team in the lead when his corner kick drifted over the goalie's outstretched hands, into the far post. The game remained close until Hal Reader launched a shot from just inside the midfield line. The shot kept rising and reached the back of the net, surprising the AFC keeper and deflating their comeback hopes. The IMPACT iced the game with a shot from LJ Dimanche and a penalty kick from Ben Fraczkowski.

The victory put the IMPACT record at 4-0 for the HCSL season. The team travels to Cape May for a tournament next weekend, then resumes league play in two weeks.

TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS
Stifling defense, dominating field play, and timely scoring combined to give the Harford Kicks Impact a first place trophy in the George Pratt Memorial, held in Cape May, NJ.

Saturday started with a 2-1 victory of a team from Monmouth, NJ. After a short break, the Impact played in heavy rain and driving winds to net a 3-0 win over West Deptford.

The division championship was clinched with a victory over GSVSA, a team from Pennsylvania.

Howell United, the A division champions were the afternoon foe, and the Impact defeated them 5-0. The game started with a quick goal from LJ Dimanche, the only tally in the first half. The Impact dominated and kept the United from mounting any serious offensive threat. Ben Fraczkowski scored early in the second half to give Harford Kicks a 2-0 lead. Anthony Mohr, taking a rare turn at center half, scored on a long rising shot from outside the eighteen. From that point, Harford controlled the flow of the game, netting two more tallies: a shot from Mark Kalthof struck a Howell United defender and went into the net; and LJ scored his second goal of the contest.

In the post-game ceremonies the team received first place trophies and championship t-shirts, a nice ending to a very successful tournament.

Some statistics:

The defense allowed only one goal for the whole tournament.

The IMPACT outscored their opponents 18-1.

The quickest goal in the tournament: One minute and thirty three seconds of the final game.

TOUGH WEEKEND
Coming off of a first place finish at the George Pratt Tournament in Cape May, NJ, the Impact started the second half of the season facing stiffer competition in both the BBSL and the HCSL.

Saturday's opponent, the South Carroll Storm, entered the game one place behind the Impact in the BBSL. A sluggish start, and a tough Storm defense kept the game scoreless until late in the first half. With under two minutes to play, John Gudenzi drilled rebound off of the Storm keeper into the back of the net. Austin Bass added an insurance goal in the second half, insuring the victory in this very physical game.

On Sunday, the Impact met the Fallston Socrates, our long time rival. As always, the game was physical and well played. Socrates collapsed into the defensive zone, sometimes playing eight men inside of the eighteen. The Impact mounted several quality scoring chances, but the wind and the Socrates keeper prevented any first half scores.

In the second half, with the blowing toward them, the Impact used short passes and ball control to dominate play. As in the first half, the Socrates defense thrwarted the Impact scoring opportunities. The play was physical, and the game ended in a 0-0 tie. In the past two seasons, there have been two 1-0 victories for each team, and two scoreless ties.

1-0 OVER JFC FLAMES IN BBSL ACTION
Games between the IMPACT and the JFC Flames are always physical, intense, and close, and Saturday's game was no exception. The first half was scoreless, with the Harford Kicks team dominating play, and narrowly missing on several shots. Brad Bishop played particularly well from the right wing position, placing several crossing passes right in front of the goal. The defense and midfielders dominated the field, allowing few serious offensive threats from the Flames.

The second half was tougher, with JFC pressing forward and keeping the IMPACT in their own zone for several sustained drives. The IMPACT had several scoring chances, but nothing as threatening as the first half. Finally, with under three minutes remaining, the front line and midfielders moved the ball into the eighteen, connecting with several short passes in the box. The Flames' keeper was drawn out and to the right, going down but allowing the ball to cross in front of the box. L J DiManche hit an off balance shot, putting the ball over the line, with John Gudenzi alertly on the ball to make sure that it hit the back of the net.

The Flames mounted one more run at the IMPACT goal, but were unable to penetrate the defense.

The two teams will meet for the third time tomorrow when they play in the finale to the HCSL season. With one more game left in the BBSL, the IMPACT still has the possibility of clinching a first place finish.

UNDEFEATED
The Harford Kicks Impact finished out the HCSL season with a 1-0 victory over JFC Flames. The victory gave the IMPACT an undefeated season in the Sunday league, with seven wins and a tie.

It was not an easy victory, but unlike yesterday, the IMPACT did not have to wait until the end of the game to notch the game's only score. With just 27 seconds elapsed, Ryan Jackman launched a long, high shot that drifted over the Flames' keeper.

The rest of the game saw the IMPACT play tough defense, while continuing to press the opponents goal. Midway through the second half the Flames had a breakawy, but the shot hit the top of the goal, and bounced back into the field of play. After this close call, the defense tightened up and were never seriously threatened. Jim Ryan was particularly effective at left fullback.

The game ended a successful season in the Harford County Soccer League.

FINAL GAME VICTORY CLINCES FIRST PLACE
It started back in July, at Southampton Middle School, sitting by one of the portable classrooms. At the team's first practic, the Harford Kicks Impact players made a commitment to each other to try to take first place in the HCSL and the BBSL. That goal was realized in a 3-0 win over the Crofton Fusion team, giving the IMPACT sole possession of first place in the BBSL, less than two weeks after clinching the HCSL title.

The IMPACT dominated, limiting the Fusion to four shots, while taking a first half lead on a hard line drive shot from Brad Bishop.
Stifling defense and smart passing kept the game well in hand, and the IMPACT finished with a victory, the end the BBSL season at 7-1-1.

Overall, the team finished with 14 wins, 1 loss, and two ties, and a tournament championship in Cape May, New Jersey. The team will celebrate next Saturday, the prepare for the Thanksgiving tournament in Pikesville.

THANKSGIVING TOURNAMENT
Three strong victories have put the Harford Kicks Impact into the finals of the Pikesville Soccer Thanksgiving Tournament.
Sean Filson's hat trick in game one, versus the White Marsh team, led the Impact to a 3-0 victory. Strong offenseive passing, especially between Filson and L J DiManche combined with stifling defense to give the Impact a win. The tournament's second game, on Saturday morning, was against Perry Hall, who were coming off two strong victories on Friday. The Impact scored first, and Austin Bass scored the game winning goal. Brad Bishop also scored and had an effective crossing pass that led to the opening score.
The final game was a 4-0 win for the Impact, with Ryan Hunton getting three goals and the hat trick, providing strong shots from the outside.

The final game is against White Marsh, on Sunday, at noon, at Woodholme Park.

IMPACT at Baltimore Arena
The Harford Kicks Impact provided halftime entertainment at the Sunday's Eastern Conference Championship Game between the Baltimore Blast and the Philadelphia Kixx.
A ten minute scrimmage between the IMPACT and the AFC Devils ended with a 1-0 score in the IMPACT's favor.

Unfortunately, the Blast did not fare as well, dropping their season ending game 16-15. The Kixx will move on to play the Western Conference champion.
