ABOUT THE HANDI-BOAT
The Handi-Boat Society was formed in June of 1997. The objective of the Society is to provide a unique alternative recreational opportunity for persons with disabilities and for senior citizens.
We had great weather in 2012 which made for a good season with only three cancellations. We sailed 35 times with 506 passengers, 80 of which were in wheel chairs. One of our better years was in 2008 when we sailed 41 times with 640 passengers, 69 of which were in wheel chairs.
The Handi-Boat is available to any group of seniors or persons with disabilities wishing to use our service. Tours are offered on Ghost Lake (20 minutes west of Cochrane) and take place from June through September. PLEASE CHECK OUR "CALENDAR" FOR AVAILABLE DATES and call Ron at 403-257-3028 or email him at arkaczmar@shaw.ca to book a trip.
The Handi-Boat Society of Alberta is a 100% volunteer organization but we request a donation of $200 per outing to help defray our expenses and operating costs.
We are in the final phase of completing the specification and engaging a contractor to build us a new Santa Maria. We hope to have a new boat in the water no later than the 2014 season. We are a registered charity and we can provide a receipt to any one interested in supporting our activities or in helping us with the capital cost of acquiring a new vessel.
