COLUMN: PROPOSED INDUCTION MODIFICATIONS Nominations for induction into the NWB Hall of Fame may be submitted by: 1. Formal Application (example was emailed recently and the complete form is posted on the website), or 2. Nomination Statement describing capabilities and contributions (more frequent approach). The formal application consists of a compilation of baseball statistics, and such data may not be available for everyone. The nomination statement is unstructured without formal requirements, but usually consists of a biographical essay, e.g., Maud Nelson, NWB/HoF 2006. There could be potential improvements to the nomination process (nomination statement and selection committee). What should be included in the nomination statement? Over the past nine years, submissions have included biographical essays, prior articles, teammate quotes, and in one case a videotape. There needs to be some consistency, and such statements should not be just a few sentences submitted by a supporter. Which of the following should be formally required in text format for future NWB/HOF nomination statements? We now have a substantial number of players, NWB Hall of Famers, who could also participate in the voting process, and should know the capabilities and contributions of proposed current inductees.
