All-Star Selection Process Set.

Your board of directors met tonight and finalized the all-star selection process.  A nomination form was voted on and distributed out through league vice presidents for further distribution to each manager.  The nomination form has slots for 12 players (13 in machine pitch) to be written in at the bottom.  The nomination form reads as follows.

"Instructions:  Managers (only) are to select who they feel are the best twelve (12) players in their league to represent Haughton Dixie at all-stars.  Managers are not to seek and/or accept any outside assistance in this process.  Nomination forms are to be filled out in private.  Girl's ballots are to be delivered to Secretary Melissa Johnson and boy's ballots to Executive Vice President Tena Dodson before the deadline given for your division.  Your nominations should not be discussed with anyone other than the board of directors.

Ballots will be ranked according to the number of times a player is nominated for example, John Doe received one nomination from all five managers in a division so his board ranking is "5 of 5", Jane Doe received only one nomination out of four so her ranking is "1 of 4".  The top nine (9) players in each division will be placed on the all-star team by the board of directors.  The last three (3) players will be selected by the all-star manager and his assistants.  Two (2) alternates will be selected but not announced by the board of directors."

This ends the nomination form.

Ballots for all division are due no later than Monday, June 8th!

Each all-star team will be posted on the league website shortly after that divison has its closing ceremonies.  All-star teams will NOT be announced during closing ceremonies.  Even though it's a time where we could recognize those players selected, there always seems to be a parent in the crowd who is so upset their kid didn't make it they cause problems and embarass themselves.

Selecting the top 8 or 9 players in any one division is usually a pretty easy process.  Selecting the last 3 or 4 players in a divison can be extremely difficult.  Generally what you have are a group ranging upwards of 10 players who for one reason or another could be selected to fill those last 3 or 4 positions.  This is where a lot of deciding factors are examined closely such as positional players needed, player attitudes, and even player maturity, and tough decisions have to be made.  As you can see a lot of responsibility is given to our team managers in nominating and helping select our all-star teams.  This is only right since some of these same managers and coaches are going to take these teams and represent us at district and hopefully further play.

We've had a very good season and other than problems with trash not being picked up, have not had any real serious problems to deal with.  Thank you for your participation and for helping us continue to build a competitive baseball and softball program in Haughton.  Remember that our goal is to send the best possible teams to represent us in our Dixie Baseball and Softball tournaments.

 and your board of directors.

Trophies and medals policy 2009.

In an effort to prevent any confusion we are posting our trophy policy for 2009 at this time.  Only the first place team in each division will receive a trophy.  There are two divisions in t-ball so there will be two first place trophies given.  All other teams will receive medals/medallions to be worn around each players neck.  All trophies and medals will be given out at each division's set closing ceremony.  Teams that do not finish in first place are encouraged to secure their own trophies and hand them out at an end of season party.
