2005 Barbados Blast - U19
The Barbados Blast International Hockey Tournament - July 5-11, 2005 - Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Complex Hockey Stadium
The Barbados Blast is an international field hockey tournament in cooperation with the Barbados Hockey Federation and Harvard Sports.
Plans include flying into San Juan, Puerto Rico and participating in one local game against the Puerto Rico Junior Hockey Federation. Flying into the Puerto Rico is the most convenient and least expensive way into the Caribbean (July 3). There is also an optional post-tournament stopover in St. Maarten/St. Martin in the Netherlands Antilles/French West Indies.
Following the stopover in San Juan (July 5);
the Barbados Blast activities will begin.
Matches will begin on July 6th. All meals, transportation and accommodations are included as part of the Harvard Sports package. Finals are scheduled on July 9th and the farewell "beach" party will take place on July 10th.
Approximate Costs: Barbados Blast Only: LAND ONLY PACKAGE: $910 (Higher depending on accommodation requests)
Includes: RT Airfare, Accommodations, three meals daily, Catamaran Cruise or Island Safari Tour and all transfers to and from games/airport/sightseeing.
Additional required for optional excursions (Puerto Rico, St. Maarten and additional activities not included in the package) and flight from Los Angeles. Coaches fare will be divided equally amongst the participants and also not included in the above price.
SAMPLE ITINERARY (BARBADOS PORTION ONLY)
DAY ONE: Tuesday, July 5
Arrive in Barbados on a regularly scheduled airline. A Harvard Sports Management representative will meet you and accompany you to your hotel. Settle into the accommodation and attend the tournament registration and check-in.
DAY TWO: Wednesday, July 6
Breakfast, followed by brief morning orientation meeting led by our local representative. Attend Preliminary matches of the Barbados Blast and soak up the sun, surf and sand of the beautiful island of Barbados.
DAY THREE: Thursday, July 7
More preliminary matches and depending on your schedule, time spent enjoying some of the many additional attractions of Barbados, such as Championship Golf, Quaint Tax-Free shopping, and the Legendary Island Safari Tour.
DAY FOUR: Friday, July 8
Today is the semi-finals and playoff day at the Barbados Blast. Once your game has finished enjoy time at the beach or on a Catamaran Cruise, included. Tonight will be "College Showcase Night" where guest speakers and college coaches will provide information on the recruiting process.
DAY FIVE: Saturday, July 9
Today is finals day where teams will play-off to decide the champions of the 2005 Barbados Blast Field Hockey Tournament. After the Awards Ceremony enjoy free time on your own.
DAY SIX: Sunday, July 10
Today is a free day, spend it soaking up the sun or arrange a visit on of the historic plantations. In the evening attend our "Farewell Beach Party" for all tournament participants.
DAY SEVEN: Monday, July 11
Today is the last opportunity to purchase souvenirs before checking out of the hotels and catching the regularly scheduled flight home.
