Wednesday, October 10 2006/2007 Season History SCHEDULE Week of March 5th, 2007 - PIAA AAA State Championship Tournament: Thursday 3/8 - Saturday 3/10 Giant Center / Hershey PA. RESULTS Week of March 5th, 2007 State Championships: Quarterfinals Dave Morey dropped a close match to Rob Waltko of Northern Allegheny by a score of 3-1. Dave will now move into the consolation bracket and resume his quest for a state medal. The next round of consolations will be later Friday afternoon at the conclusion of the quarterfinal round. State Championships: 1st Round Dave Morey defeated Eric Lundgren of Dubois convincingly by a score of 11-3. Dave now moves on to the Quarterfinals Friday afternoon to face Rob Waltko of Northern Allegheny. Waltko is currently ranked #2 in the state and was the Southwest Region 3rd place finisher. Dave Morey is in the top half of the 171 lb. bracket and will face Junior Eric Lundgren from Dubois who finished 3rd at the Northeast Regional. Lundgren comes to Hershey with a 29-11 record while Dave is 35-3. RESULTS Week #13 (2/26 - 3/4, 2007) Senior Captain Dave Morey shocked the overflow crowd at Norristown HS Saturday night with a terrific 5-2 victory over Jess Dewan of Boyertown. This gave Dave a regional title at 171 lbs. as he became the 1st Jag to win a regional title since Jim Bertulis did it in 2001. Dave had 2 takedowns and 1 escape to take the match - only yielding 2 escapes to Dewan. Dave was 4-0 at Norristown with victories over CJ Smull (CRS), #2 seed James Vanderbeek (Souderton), Jay Hahn (Great Valley) and #1 seed Dewan, Senior Captain Dan Tustin wrapped up a very good senior year and excellent career at Norristown. Dan lost both of his matches at regionals wrestling very hard as always. Junior Justin Gualtieri completed a great season with a loss in the Consolations to eventual 3rd place finisher Jim Norley from Henderson. Congratulations on a fine year! Freshman Joe Marino took home a very impressive 5th place finish from Regionals. Joe was 3-2 on the weekend including victories over Paul Ebert (CRS), Gary Magill (Great Valley) and Nick Fischer from Unionville who had defeated Joe the previous week at Districts. Congratulations on a great Freshman season! Saturday morning update. Dave Morey is still going after 2 straight victories on Friday evening at the Southeast Regional Tournament at Norristown HS. Dave will get a rematch with Great Valley's Jay Hahn in the Semi-finals on Saturday. 1 more win and Dave is guaranteed a trip to the Giant Center next week. Freshman Joey Marino also won his first round match before falling to top seed Shane Smith (Upper Perk.) in the 130 lb. bracket. Dan Tustin (160) and Justin Gualtieri (152) both lost their first round matches. Marino, Tustin and Gualtieri will resume wrestling on Saturday morning in the wrestlebacks. The top 4 finishers in each weight class move on to Hershey. RESULTS Week #12 (2/19 - 2/25, 2007) All 4 Jags who wrestled in the District 1 Central Tournament finished in the top 4 and will advance to next week's Southeast Regional Tournament - just 1 step away from States. Freshman Joe Marino went 3-1 on the day and defeated Great Valley's Gary Magill to take 3rd place in the 130 lb. weight class. Justin Gualtieri went 2-2 on the day with 2 falls and finished 4th at 152 lbs. Justin lost a very close 8-7 decision in the quarterfinal round to eventual 2nd place finisher Justin Rakowski. Senior Captain Dan Tustin battled back to 3rd place with 3 straight wins and defeated Matt Patterson from Springford in the Consi. final in the 160 lb. weight class. Senior Captain Dave Morey took 3rd at 171 with a 5-2 victory in the Consi. final over Penncrest's Vinnie D'Ortone. Dave went 3-1 on the day with his only loss in the semi-final where he dropped a 6-4 decision to Great Valley's Jay Hahn 6-4 in overtime. RESULTS Week #11 (2/12 - 2/18, 2007) 4 Jags advanced to the Districts by finishing in the top 4 at the Section VI Tournament on 2/17. Senior Captain Dave Morey and Freshman Joe Marino both won their respsective weight classes. Senior Captain Dan Tustin and Junior Justin Gualtieri both finished 3rd to also advance. RESULTS Week #10 (2/5 - 2/11, 2007) The Jags fell to rival Unionville in their last SCCL Dual meet of the season by a score of 42-20. Winners for GV were Justin Gualtieri (by fall), Dan Tustin (major decision), Dave Morey (major decision) and Dave Baldwin (forfeit). This was Dave Morey's 118th career win as he continues to build on the all-time GV record. RESULTS Week #9 (1/29 - 2/4, 2007) GV lost a close SCCL match at West Chester East HS on Friday February 2nd by a score of 39-35. Winners for the Jags were Joe Marino by fall at 135 lbs., Curt Loeb by fall at 140 lbs., John Petrini by fall at 189 lbs., Chuck Nickle by fall at 119 lbs.. Dan Tustin won by tech. fall at 160 lbs. and Dave Morey won by forfeit. The Jags held a 29-18 lead after John Petrini's win at 189 but WCE won 4 of the last 5 bouts to win the meet. The Jags traveled to the new Oxford Area HS on Wednesday January 31st and lost a hard fought SCCL match by a score of 44-25. RESULTS Week #8 (1/22 - 1/28, 2007) The Jags were defeated in an SCCL match on Wednesday January 24th at Great Valley by a score of 59-12. Winners for GV were Pat Cabry who won by forfeit and Dan Tustin and Dave Morey who both won by decision. RESULTS Week #6 (1/8 - 1/14, 2007) GV was defeated by Ridley HS in a non-league dual meet on Friday 1/12 by a score of 58-17. Dave Morey won by fall - Dan Tustin, John Petrini and Pat Cabary also won for the Jags. The Jags won an exciting SCCL dual meet in their home gym on Wednesday 1/10 over Kennett HS by a score of 36-31. Freshman Curt Loeb, Chris Rosato and Mike Schwein all were victorious by fall. Seniors Dan Tustin and John Petrini won by decision and Pat Carby and Dave Morey won by forfeit. For Dave this was his 113th career win and his 1st home meet since attaining the all-time GV win record this past weekend at Council Rock South HS. RESULTS: Week #5 (1/1 - 1/7, 2007) Congratulations to Jag Senior Captain Dave Morey who eclipsed the all-time GV win record with his 112th career victory on Saturday 1/6. Dave hit the 112 win mark with a victory in the consolation finals at the Escape the Rock tournament at Council Rock HS. Dave moved past Chris Tate who graduated in 2003 with 111 wins. 2000 Grad. Joe O'Brien is now in 3rd all-time with 108 wins. Dave Morey took 3rd in the 171 lb. weight class and Dan Tustin 5th at 160 lbs. at the "Escape the Rock" tournament at Council Rock South HS on Saturday 1/6. As of Saturday morning, 2 Jags have advanced to the Championship Semi-finals at the Escape the Rock Tournament at Council Rock South HS. Dan Tustin continues to wrestle very well and after back to back victories moves into the Semi-finals in the 160 lb. weight class. Dan will wrestle Ben Eachus of Hazleton. Eachus is a senior and is ranked 11th in the state and 4th in District 2. Dave Morey has also moved in the semis where he gets a rematch with Mike Reilly from Crestwood. Reilly beat Dave by 1 point at last weekend's Conestoga Valley Tournament to take the 171 lb. title. Reilly is not ranked in the state and is 4th in District 2. Dave is ranked 13th in the state and 2nd in D-1. The Jags head to the 24 team "Escape the Rock" Tournament on Friday and Saturday January 5th and 6th. Wrestling starts at 4pm on Friday. RESULTS Week #4 (12/25 - 12/31, 2006) 3 Jag wrestlers brought home medals from the 23 team Conestoga Valley Holiday Classic. Senior Dave Morey lost a close match in the 171 lb. final to Crestwood's Mike Reilly by a score of 5-4 to take 2nd. The was Dave's first loss of the season. After losing in the 2nd round, Senior Dan Tustin battled back with 5 straight wins to finish a strong 3rd place. Dan defeated the 3rd seed Calvin Boggs from Caesar Rodney in the 3rd place match. Sophomore Zack Nickle continues to wrestle well and finished 5th at 119 lbs. Zack had advanced to the Championship Semi-finals before losing to the #1 seed and eventual winner Luis Burgos of Caesar Rodney. The Jags as a team finished 18th. Entering the 2nd day, 3 Jags are still alive at the Conestoga Valley Tournament. Zack Nickle (119 lb) has wrestled his way into the Semi-finals after a win by fall and decision. Zack will now face the #1 seed Luis Burgos from Caesar Rodney - who leads the team standings. Dave Morey (171 lb) has moved into the semi-finals after a win by fall and a major. Dave now will face the #3 seed Kasey Lyon from Canton HS. After a 2nd round loss, Dan Tustin (160 lb) has put together 2 straight wins to move into the Consolation Quarterfinals where he will face #7 seed Matt Patterson from Springford. The Jags are in 21st place in the Team Standings. The Jags head to the Conestoga Valley Holiday Classic in Lancaster PA. Competition will be tough with the following teams competing: Annandale (VA), Caesar Rodney (DE), Canton, Conestoga Valley, Crestwood, Downingtown West, Exeter, Garnet Valley, Hamburg, Hodgson (DE),Indiana, Lewistown, Manheim Township, Mechanicsburg, Methacton, New Oxford, Octorara, Pennsbury, Ritchie County, Spring-Ford, Waynesboro, Westfield (VA),Wilson Directions to ALL away meets and tournaments can be found under the MEET LOCATIONS tab. RESULTS Week #3 (12/18 - 12/24, 2006) The Jags lost a close, hard-fought match 35-30 at Octorara on Wed. 12/20 in their opening SCCL Dual Meet of the 2006-2007 season. Corey Friel, Curt Loeb and Dan Tustin all won by fall. Dave Morey and Chris Rosato won by decision and Pat Cabry won by forfeit. RANKINGS: The 1st set of Delco Times Rankings were released on 12/20. Zac Nickle is 3rd at 119 lbs., Joe Marino is 2nd at 130 lbs., Dave Morey is 1st at 171 lbs. and Kris Wazlawik is 2nd at 215 lbs. RESULTS Week #2 (12/11 - 12/17, 2006) The Jags placed 8th out of 16 teams and had 3 on the podium in the 39th annual GV Holiday Wrestling Tournament on 12/16. Dave Morey pushed his record to 10-0 on the season and followed up his Penn Manor championship with another crown at the GV Tournament at 171 lbs. Dave defeated Penncrest's Vinnie D'Ortone by a score of 12-6 in the final. Zac Nickle also brought home a gold medal as he captured to 119 lb. title. Zac defeated Delone Catholic's Jacob Boyle 11-5 in the 119 lb. final. Senior Captain Dan Tustin pinned Erik Zahn from West Chester East to take 3rd at 160 lbs. Jag Senior Captain fresh off a 1st place finish at the Penn Manor Tournament became the 3rd GV wrestler to win 100 matches when he accomplished this feat at the Henderson Quad Meet on Wed. 12/13. Dave went 2-0 on the night but the Jags fell to both Downingtown West and host Henderson HS. Zac Nickle (119 lbs.) and John Petrini (215 lbs.) also went 2-0 on the night. RESULTS Week #1 (12/4 - 12/10, 2006) Congratulations to Jag Captains Dave Morey and Dan Tustin who both brought home medals from the always tough Penn Manor Comet Tournament this past weekend. Dave captured the 171 lbs. crown with a close 2-1 victory of Mike Reilly of Crestwood. Dave finished 4th in a dramatic Overtime loss to Tim Greiner of District 3's Lampeter-Strasburg. The Jag varsity finished 13th overall in the 23 team tournament. The young Jags wrestled hard but fell to Haverford School 49-14 in their opening dual meet of the season on Wed. 12/6. GV got a forfeit win from Art Belashov, a dominating Tech. fall by State ranked Senior Captain Dave Morey and a thrilling victory by freshman Joe Marino. There were several other very close matches during the meet most notably Chris Rosato and Captain Dan Tustin who both wrestled very well and Justin Gualtieri who wrestled Steve "Bear" Resnick extemely tough. The experience that many of the Jags gained in this tough meet will help prepare them for the Penn Manor tournament this coming weekend.
