Falcons bring enough to defeat Athens Drive, 1-0
We were a tired team today. Fortunately, we were only leg-weary. Mentally, we were strong, and as a result, I saw them try to do the same things we did against Apex, the same organization and mentality, just that our touch and pace were off due to playing back to back. Admittedly, Athens Drive was in the same boat we were, but I saw players for us that I have literally never seen tired, look tired. Even though it was a close game, we felt in control of the game. According to our stats (and Athens Drive may record it differently) we only allowed them 4 shots, and ourselves took 18. We just couldn't take the pressure off ourselves by finishing them off with the second goal.
Jordan Vezina was one of our standouts, with continued good presence in the central midfield. Shea Reynolds looked strong and steady at the right back, and Michaela Clarke was good at the other side. Ashley Stokes finally put a goal in after 50 minutes of play, off a bounce from a Olivia Meek cross.
Cary waits for us on Monday, and they are a team we must be wary of, going into their place. With four conference games, and no room for error anymore, we have to be ready.
