Falcons slip past Cary, 1-0
We needed the win, and we got the win. Considering Apex and us are tied at the end of the season if both win out, every game is of vital importance So the most important thing is the win. However, we have to finish off games much better to get far in states.
Our defense was great, with Michaela Clarke once again showing why she earned a starting roll. Rachel Wells cleaned everything up for us, allowing only two shots, but our offense played the best defense today. They kept the ball away from our goalmouth with possession, and keeping up the attack. That was a great positive from them.
On the negative side, the offense took 28 shots, and we finished one. That one was a corner kick, with Ashley Stokes taking the kick and Reilly Brown finishing the loose ball in the box. Aside from that, we couldn't hit the net. Certainly, Cary's outstanding keeper had a lot to do with it, but we are not being smart on when and how to finish. We are building up beautifully, and the movement of both the ball and ourselves was superb. We are not making good decisions in the final 20 yards, or not setting up good angles to shoot at. We also still need to change our technique on our finishing...not enough well placed driven balls.
So our training theme for the rest of the season, as it has been, is on finishing off the attack. We have another tough defensive team up on Wednesday in Fuquay-Varina, and we will have finish the ball better to win.
