We like to receive via e-mail all info on players. Their resume and soccer club team schedules. The more they send, the more we know they are interested. They need to make sure they clearly state their name, year of graduation, club team and home address with e-mail.

We usually find out about recruits through info. they send or by seeing them at tournaments. We typically look for players who have speed, with and without the ball. We also recruit by the position we need to fill. For example, for 2006 we need to bring in a forward and a keeper so that is where we focus. We always have to try to look ahead in the process.

We go to major tournaments, Disney, Raleigh, TX Shootout, Regionals for all 4 regions, we stopped going to ODP, but we always look for ODP regional team players! We are thinking about starting to look over seas, so we shall see how that goes!

As far as recruiters, we like to use all the help we can get. Usually we get fathers of our current players to give us info. on their local players, most of them know what we look for. We need to know and trust the opinion of the look out scout.

Chris Ducar, Asst. Coach, UNC Chapel Hill
To be agressively recruited we have to continue to see you play. We recruit one of these following arenas: the upper levels of Olympic Development (Regional teams, National Youth teams), WAGS in October, the Raleigh Shootout in November, the PDA Invitational in May, the Texas Shootout on Memorial Day weekend in Houston, the Disney Annual Soccer Showcase in December, the San Diego Surf Cup in July, and from our summer camps (North Carolina Girl's Soccer Camp) every summer.

The young women we are interested in must also have academics as a priority and still have the ambition to be the best she can be athletically. We love players with self discipline, competitive fire, and high self esteem who genuinely want to be the best who enjoy playing this wonderful game. We want their goals to match ours: to graduate the best players they can be and become powerful, confident women of strong character and high standards that are not afraid to lead their peers.

Eddie Radwanski, Head Coach, UNC Greensboro
I can tell you that we (UNC Greensboro) see a lot of players at mostly the club team showcases.....(Disney, Regionals, Nationals, Houston Shootout, Surf Cup...etc.)
But like I say to all players....there is a place for everyone.

How can high school players gain visibility?: be pro-active, contact schools that you have an interest in (realistic)....do your homework.

What do we look for in players?: can they play!, technical ability, speed of play, speed of thought, physical qualities.

What do we look for and where do we look?: the very best club competitions, we look for smart, intelligent players, and players who can bring a certain quality to the team. (Diana Gardner was a perfect example last year.....work rate and battled)......this could be technical, physical (speed, strength, brave...), psychological (battler, fighter) tactical (smart player)

Michelle Demko, Asst. Coach, NC State University
If you are serious about being seen to play college soccer, you need to put yourself in the position to be seen. If you only play high school soccer chances are you won't have tons of exposure. I would recommend players try and be guest players at the major college showcase
tournaments during the year. Most of the bigger tournaments allow you to contact them and they will help find you a team to play with for the weekend.

We hear about recruits several different ways...

1. recruits e-mail us with their interest and we send them a basic soccer questionnaire to
fill out with their upcoming tournaments so we can keep track of them.

2. they come to campus for a visit and we have the opportunity to talk with them and find out where they are playing.

3. we go to tournaments and watch games and find players that catch our interest.

4. they come to camp and we have the opportunity to watch them play for an entire week.

As far as what we look for in recruits are: athleticism, competitiveness, tactical awareness, technical ability, what they do when they make a mistake, speed of play, are they dynamic enough to come in and challenge us here on a daily basis.

Neil Roberts, Head Coach, UNC Charlotte
In the end, it does all come down to who we see playing in events that are competitive. I will say that they larger tournaments have started to accept guest players via their websites and help them get on teams that are short players etc.....

I like to see athleticism on the field and evidence of a competitive passion. That coupled with a reference or two that the student athlete is of good character is the first step. Size and strength (or that potential) has become a huge aspect in the game as well. I also want to know that they are playing at a high level regularly (ODP, competitive club team etc.).
