About Grand Valley & District Minor Hockey

Grand Valley is a small community of 1600 located on the banks of the Grand River, on Dufferin Road 25 (formerly Hwy 25), 5 minutes north of Dufferin Road 9 (formerly Hwy 9). It is officially part of the township of East Luther Grand Valley. Grand Valley & District Minor Hockey Association provides hockey to players in the town and immediate surrounding area. We offer hockey for players 4 to 17 years, in divisions Mite to Midget. Our centre is classed as a ‘D’ centre with our registration averaging 150 players a year. As a member of the OMHA we support the initiation program for the beginners, OMHA competitive teams from Novice to Midget, and this season have a local league team each in Tyke, Atom, Pee Wee and Bantam.

The new millennium brought some changes to our centre. In 2000 this website was launched and our centre became members of the Georgian Bay Minor Hockey League and the Georgian Bay Triangle Local League. Previous to that our teams competed in the Tri-County Minor Hockey League, and a small local league involving teams from Fergus, Elora, Arthur. Switching to the Georgian Bay Leagues proved a positive move for our centre. Since the move hockey has regained a place in the heart of Grand Valley, as each year more fans come out and see our Twisters play. Progressively over since 2000 we have brought back OMHA rep teams beginning with the PeeWees in 2000/01, addition of a Bantam team in 2001/02 and after a five year absence, midget hockey came back to town in the 2002/03 season. The 2005/06 season marked the return of a Female Twister Team after a very long time. Our PeeWee girls team competed as a house league team in the Western Ontario Athletic Association Girls Hockey League. In 2006/07 they entered as an OWHA Provincial PeeWee C team and were reclassified to B based on their strengh. They competed very well in a Silverstick tournament, were league Consolation Champs and had a good showing at the OWHA provincial in April 07. In 2007/08 they entered as a bantam B team, played very competitive hockey throughout the season, and won their league title. The 2005/06 season also saw our OMHA PeeWees and Bantams win their Regional Silverstick Titles and compete in the International finals held in Forrest, Ontario. The bantams lost the championship game in OT...but regrouped to win the first OMHA championship in 26 years for Grand Valley. In 2006/07 the bantams visited the OMHA finals for the third season in a row, and won a second championship. Our peewees celebrated the 2006/07 season with 5 major championship wins; Grand Vally Tournament Champions, Wasaga Beach Silverstick Champions, International Silverstick Champions, League Champions & OMHA Champions. The success continued in 2007/08 with the PeeWees re-capturing the league title for a record 6th season in a row; the bantams again winning their Regional Silverstick tournament and their third OMHA championship in a row; for the first time in 26 years we got to watch our Midgets compete in and win the OMHA Midget 'D' Championship; the Midgets then took this success to their league final and won the first Georgian Bay 'A' Division Championship for Grand Valley. The 07/08 season was the first in many years that Grand Valley had enough Midget players register to enter a Local League team into competition as well.  This small team of 12 skaters and their netminder surprised everyone and did amazily well.  March 08 was a special month in Grand Valley when both Midget teams were competing for league titles.  The Locals finished as finalists, but their successful season and tremendous effort will not be forgotten....WOW! Collectively our Twister success stories are many, make sure you visit our ‘Playdown Page’ and our ‘Old But Not Forgotten News’ page to see for yourself.

Grand Valley & District Minor hockey also celebrates success in its volunteers. The following volunteers need to be recognized, appreciated and thanked throughout the season; our executive members who donate tons of personal hours each season; our volunteer coaches, trainers and managers who work very hard with their teams; the families of these volunteers who support their efforts and many absences from home; our referees who often receive compliments from visiting centres; the parents for their continued support of fair play initiatives and fundraising efforts; and all the others who help make our hockey season a great one, the music moms & dads, our fantastic arena staff, our timekeepers and of course our many fans.

We also acknowledge the support we receive from our sponsor group. Please visit our Twister Sponsor page and support them as often as you can.

The most important group remains our players. There is nothing better than watching a Twister team play, for they all have commonality in their drive and determination. Always humble victors, gracious in defeat, playing with heart, having fun and loving the game above the prize. Come out to a game or two and see for yourself!
