Coach and Trainer Clinics

Coaching clinics and trainer clinics are scheduled for the 2009-2010 season. If you would like to become a coach or need re-certification it is a good idea to book ASAP and not to leave it to the last minute when the season starts.

2009-2010 OMHA Certification Requirements for Coaching are available for download here.

If your certification number begins with 09 your certification will expire August 31st 2009. There will be no grace period this season.  If you have not refreshed your expired ticket you will not be allowed on the bench at all.  If you have your development level 1 certification you need to take a refresher course or upgrade to development level 2. Any coaches holding an Intermediate Coach Ticket will expire August 31st, 2009 as well and be required to update their certification.

Refresher Clinics fill very fast.  If you have taken any programs that qualify under the OMHA Continuing Education Program (CEP) you can send you passport to Susan Campbell at the OMHA office with applicable fee to have your number updated.  More information on the OMHA CEP program is available here.

If you are a level one trainer who is currently expiring, you can now take a trainer refresher or take a first aid course and upgrade to level two . If you ticket has expired previous to 2008 you have to re-take the trainer course.  If you are a level two trainer, you need to refresh your first aid (must be Standard First Aid, not Emergency) and advise the OMHA that you have done so to update your trainer number.  More information on the OMHA Trainers Certification is available here.

If you are a new coach, trainer or manager, you will require Prevention Service Certification.   Program Overview
Note: As of August 11th ,2008 coaches taking the Coach Stream or Development 1 clinics will have the Speak Out component integrated into the coach clinic.  This does not apply to CHIP clinics.

S&Fhockey
As a coach, your role is integral in ensuring the kids on your team are learning the fundamentals of the Safe & Fun philosophy. And there's no better way to get started than by downloading your own copy of the Chevrolet Safe & Fun "A Coach's Approach" Manual.

In it you'll find a wealth of valuable coaching information, like:

a beginning coach's primer
value based coaching
a coach's creed
and much more...

HAVE FUN www.hockeycoach.com
This is the sole reason why the players and coaches are brought together. It's simple, if your not having fun coaching then chances are your players aren't either. Players will develop quicker and reach higher levels if they enjoy your coaching. This does not infer that you don't work them hard. You and your players can still have fun while working very hard. A true indication of a fun and productive practice is when the players leave the ice dripping with sweat and brimming with a smile.

Coaching Association of Canada
