GV Mites: Welcome

What Kids Learn First, They Learn Best!

Welcome to webpage for the Grand Valley Mites. This is the introductory level of hockey for players aged 4-6.  We adhere to the OMHA Initiation Program guidelines and offer a program based on skill development through fun.
Players at this age are just beginning to develop, for some it is the first organized program they have participated in. The focus will be on learning hockey skills, using the Canadian Hockey Initiation Program (CHIP)as a guideline for teaching.

Program Philosophy

The Initiation Program is Canada’s premiere “ Learn to Play” program for beginning hockey players.
The Canadian Hockey Association developed the program to ensure that the child’s first contact with hockey is a safe and positive experience.
It enables participants to become contributing members of a team effort, develop self-confidence, and experience a sense of personal achievement.

Program Goals

To have fun while playing hockey and engaging in physical activity.
To learn the fundamental skills required to play the game of hockey.
To create and refine basic motor patterns.
To be introduced to the concepts of cooperation and fair play.

Many volunteers are required to make this program a success, as some skaters will need one on one attention for the first few weeks while they develop confidence on the ice.

Good Luck to a great season!
