USA Hockey Rule Changes and Updates

More focus on the 2006 standard of play.  Tripping potentially may be called more and also hits done with the gloves and not with the body or shoulder.

Pee Wee and Bantam coaches: GVAHA has some fantastic young physical hockey players that do it cleanly, more than most programs, however we also have our share of "glove checkers" that look like a football lineman going to make a block. That type of check must be discouraged.  The only way get the desired result is to TEACH and positively ENCOURAGE the proper techniques along with discouraging the bad habits.  Please, use the resources you have available to teach proper body contact.  We have a library of books and DVDs and tapes at your disposal.

The lastest rule changes and updates can be found in the link above.

The first Coaches Hot Stove session was held on April 29th at the Georgetown Ice Center. Hockey Director, Joel Breazeale, invited all the GVAHA coaches as well as those from outside the organization to come and discuss some of the Hot Topics related to the coaching position. Joel is passionate about the development of coaches and he has found this is a constructive way to share ideas and promote good practices. Below is a link to the presentation material that was used for the first session. The focus area that evening was titled "Coaching from the Bench". If you would like to participate in follow on events, please contact Joel (jmbhockey@sbcglobal.net).
