MY CHILD WANTS TO PLAY AAU SPORTS!

Effective immediately, all club/team/coach contact information has been removed from the District website.

To accomodate those parents that are looking for teams, the "My Child Wants to Play AAU Sports!" program has been designed.

The purpose of the program is to give parents the opportunity to have a coach contact them regarding their child's participation with their team.

Phase 1 of the program is designed to keep the child's personal information confidential while using the parent as the contact person for communication purposes. This procedure ensures the integrity of the child's information. By following Steps 1-3 below, you will have the opportunity to have your child's sport, position and interests available to over 40,000 coaches.

IT's EASY AS 1-2-3! - My Child Wants to Play AAU Sports! Enroll Now

STEP 1 - Obtain an AAU membership for your child.

STEP 2 - Parent enters their contact information and child's information into AAU's My Child Wants To Play AAU Sports! program. View Example

2007 AAU NATIONAL CONVENTION

The 2007 AAU National Convention was held in Schaumburg, IL October 1-6, 2007.  As a result of this meeting there will be several changes that may affect you and/or your team for the upcoming season.

A brief summary of these changes is as follows:

  • The age determination date (ADD) has changed from January 1, 2008 to July 1, 2007.
  • Club/teams are no longer able to post contact information on the district website.
  • All packages for the AAU National Championship must be done on-line.
  • Clubs may release players from their teams immediately ... no 60-day rule if the club agrees to release the player.
  • Once a team qualifies for a National Tournament, the athletes on their roster cannot play for another team in a National Championship unless they are released or her team declines the bid and does not attend Nationals, she then may be picked up by a team that is attending from her district or an adjoining District.

The meeting minutes may be found @  www.aaugirlsbasketball.org.

NEW AAU AGE DETERMINATION DATE (ADD) GUIDELINES

As a result of the vote taken at the 2007 AAU National Convention, age determination dates (ADD) have been changed for the upcoming season from January 1, 2008 to July 1, 2007.  As it would seem that these changes have caused great confusion, it is our attempt to provide clarity to what has taken effect.

The intent of this change is to allow girls with the early birth dates in a class to compete with the other girls in the same class. Most states use September 1, although a few use August 1 or July 1, so that is why the July 1 date was chosen.

Second, with the ADD being moved from January 1, 2008 to July 1, 2007, many girls who could not compete with their school teammates are now able to do so.

New Division NAMES:

· 8/u - Born on or after - July 1, 1998
· 9/u - Born on or after - July 1, 1997
· 10/u - Born on or after - July 1, 1996
· 11/u - Born on or after - July 1, 1995
· 12/u - Born on or after - July 1, 1994
· 13/u - Born on or after - July 1, 1993
· 14/u - Born on or after - July 1, 1992
· 15/u - Born on or after - July 1, 1991
· Jr - Born on or after - January 1, 1990
· Open - Born on or after - July 1, 1988

If there is still confusion, please click on the following link which will allow you to calculate the age determination group more definitively ....  http://aaugirlsbasketball.org/pages/agedefinition_new.asp.

IMPORTANT UPDATE -- TALK TO US VIA E-MAIL!
We are overwhelmed with the numerous phone calls seeking information about our program, clubs/teams and/or players for the upcoming year. It is IMPOSSIBLE to return many of the phone calls received each day as more often than not there's not enough time in the day to play "phone tag" as many of us have full-time jobs that we work in addition to voluntarily giving our time to this program.

Therefore, if you have questions or issues and you'd like for them to be addressed as expeditiously as possible, please email us at gulf_aaubbgirls@yahoo.com and we will commit to a 24-hour turnaround response.

In your e-mails, please be as specific as possible about the information you'd like to receive or the question you want answered. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
