Welcome to Guilford Basketball (GBL)!
GBL is a volunteer run organization which conducts an athletic program to enhance the personal and educational growth of its participants by providing healthy, challenging competition and instruction. We provide programs for players in grades Kintergarten through 12th Grade. Our Recreation League is open to all grade appropriate children and provides equal playing time and instructional opportunities for every youth. The focus of this league is on player development and the enjoyment of the game.
We also provide opportunities for more advanced player development through our travel and tournament teams. These teams are selected on the basis of open tryouts and require a higher level of commmitment from players than that of the Recreation League. Playing time in this league may not be equal for all players.
GBL is a grade-based league. Players are evaluated and placed on teams with other players from their grade, regardless of their age. Both the Recreation League and Travel Teams use this structure.

GBL is setting up an email list for GBL Parents to improve communication. To be included simply click GBL Email List and send us an email. Please include your name, your child's name and grade within the email.
We will use your email address to keep you up to date with important information and dates regarding Guilford Basketball League.
Commitment to the Guilford Community
This upcoming 2008 - 2009 season, well over 800 children will participate in GBL's Recreational League. We will play over 600 games in 6 gyms around Guilford. We will conduct 200 hours of instructional programs for over 200 beginning players in our Mini Hoops Program.
Our Travel Program is strong. Over 100 children will compete in Shoreline League competition and tournaments.
GBL improves the basketball facilities in Guilford Schools. In recent years GBL has purchased new backboards and rims for Guilford Lakes, Leete, Cox, Melissa Jones and Baldwin schools. In addition, we have purchased portable hoops to support the Mini Hoops Program at Melissa Jones School. All Guilford youth benefit from these donations throughout the school year!
GBL organizes Spirit Nights to support the Basketball Programs at Guilford High School. These well attended events introduce our younger players to the excitement of GHS Basketball.
Kids : The season starts soon, keep practicing!
Parents: Volunteer! We need your help to prepare for the year... Come to a GBL meeting. GBL meets the 3rd Thursday of every month at the Community Center.
Winter Weather Cancellation Notice Policy
GBL RECREATION LEAGUE & MINI HOOPS - Saturday Games: In the case of inclement Saturday weather GBL will make a decision by 7:00 AM to cancel all Rec games for the day. GBL will post the cancellation to the website no later than 7:15 AM.
TRAVEL GAMES: In anticipation of inclement weather this Sunday please use the following guidelines for both home and away games.
Home games in Guilford: GBL Travel Coordinator will make the final call to cancel home games. An email will be sent to all home coaches in time for home coaches to call opposing coach and Guilford Players.
Away games: Coaches will contact opposing coach. Coaches will contact parents in advance of your game to avoid having parents drive to a closed gym.
