Hi Everyone! Welcome to Coach’s Corner—all the news that’s fit to print.
Keep Your Head Up: In our last meet against Cinco Ranch South Ranch, we learned an important lesson. Although they were a great team and tough competitors, we should always remember to try our best. Even if we believe that we can’t or won’t beat another team because they are better swimmers, that doesn’t let us off the hook to swim fast and be successful. Success isn’t always measure by the color of our ribbons, but by the effort we put into our practice and our races. If you worked really hard to make this happen at our meet then you should be VERY proud of yourself. Coach Sean and I are certainly proud of you.
Last Dual Meet: On Tuesday night, we will have our last dual meet of the season against Nottingham Country. They have always been a strong team and this year will be no different. However, we have swan incredibly well this year and worked harder than ever. That work will pay off with fast swimming on Tuesday. Come, ready to swim, and excited to go fast. We’ll see you there. (If you haven’t highlighted your name already in the book—make sure you do so tomorrow!)
Meet of Champs: Our meet of champs team will be announced on Wednesday morning. We will have donuts, do speeding tickets from the night before, and just have fun. There will be no practice on Wednesday and Meet of Champs practice will begin at the Kingsland pool on Thursday. FYI, the Meet of Champs team is based on times, legality of strokes, and availability.
Party: Don’t forget our end of the year party is on Thursday night at the Kingsland Pool.
That’s all for now. Have a great week and we’ll see you at the pool.

Great Job! On Saturday, the Gators lost a tough match to Grand Lakes. Although the final score was not what we hoped, we have much to be proud of. The Gators rose to tough competition by turning in 199 best times!!! Way to go Gators. Despite illness and swimmers out, our athletes turned in a great performance and should be thrilled with their swims. This week, we face off against Cinco Ranch South Ranch.
Stroke Clinic: It is our intention to host a stroke clinic again this Saturday if there is interest. Unfortunately, it has been difficult to know how many people are coming and to prepare with enough help without being overstaffed. It would be helpful if you intend on coming if you could email Coach Kelly and let her know. Her email is kellylhume@katyisd.org . The topics for this Saturday will be as follows:
8:00 – 8:30: breaststroke timing
8:30 – 9:00: turns for all strokes
9:00-9:30: relay exchanges
9:30 – 10:00: starts and finishes
Clinics are $5 per athlete/per half hour session. That’s all for now. We’ll see you at the pool! Go GATORS!!!!

Hi Everyone! Welcome to the first installment of Coach’s Corner where you can find out all the news from Coach Kelly and Coach Sean.
Congratulations!: Last Thursday, the Gators won our first meet, beating Cinco Ranch Highland Park by 100 points! There were over 240 best times turned in through a total team effort. A special thank you goes out to our 13/14 boys who stepped up to fill the holes in our 15-18 line-up. Our boys gave up the ability to earn some higher place ribbons in an effort to earn some much needed points for the team. That sacrifice is one of the main reasons why we won.
Seeding for the Meets: Several of you have asked about how we are placing people into the meets. Essentially, this is how it works. Everyone swims the freestyle relay, freestyle, and backstroke. Then, for the IM, our top three swimmers will swim. For breaststroke and butterfly, the top three swimmers (as determined by times) will swim in the first heat. The second heat will be rotated through swimmers who are close to the top and/or are improving. We will look at giving as many people an opportunity to show they are improving and to try for best times. However, there is a limited ability to this as we have a finite number of meets. Those swimmers who are unable to swim those events in a meet will have an opportunity before Meet of Champs to swim a time trial for improvement. We feel that this is the most fair way possible and provides the most opportunities for growth on the team.
That’s all for now. We’ll see you at the pool! Go GATORS!!!! Coach Kelly and Coach Sean
