What and How are divisions defined? T-Ball - coed, for 5 & 6 year olds - entering Kindergarten in Fall. Coaches Pitch - 7 & 8 years olds, mostly 1st and 2nd graders. Minor - 9 & 10 year olds, mostly 3rd and 4th graders. Major - 11 & 12 year olds, mostly 5th and 6th graders. The placement within each baseball division is based upon your age before 4/30. Softball divisions are determined by age on January 1st. U10 9 & 10 year olds, mostly 3rd and 4th graders. U12 - 11 & 12 year olds, mostly 5th and 6th graders.
Where are games played? At all Groveport Madison School Buildings, Groveport Recreation Center, and various Southeastern locations. Softball teams will play in Obetz, Canal Winchester, and Bexley.
When do we practice? Each team is assigned a diamond for 2-3 practices per week. G.Y.A.A. assigns diamonds specifically due to the number of teams vs number of diamonds. Major, Minor, U12, and U10 will start the first full week of April. Coach Pitch and U8 start the 3rd week of April. T-Ball starts the last week of April.
What days do we play games? 6 days a week! All teams should be prepared to play any night of the week and on Saturdays. If weather remains perfect the schedule would be as follows.
T-Ball - Tue, Thur, Sat; CP,U8 - Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat; Minor,U10 - Tue, Thur, Sat; Major,U12 - Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat; Pony/Babe Ruth/U14 - Any days and All days.
Will I get an award? All T-ball, Coach Pitch, and U8 players will receive a participation award at the end of the season. Minors, Majors, U10, and U12 only receive an individual award if their team finishes 1st or 2nd. Tournament plaques are also awarded for 1st and 2nd place finishes.
Do baseball and soccer overlap? YES. But in practice time only. Games for Major, Minor, U10, U12 don't start until 3rd week of May. Games for T-Ball, CP, U8 start after Memorial Day. As you can gauge the overlap by the start times for your respective division.
Who prepares the diamond for practices and games? You, me, us! As a volunteer organization, all the help we can get is truely needed and appreciated. There is a ton of work needed to kick off the season and to maintain throughout the season. For game night, the Home team is responsible for field prep. Game are to start promptly at 6:15pm. The home teams is responsible for putting away equipment after game is over too. All are responsible for trash. Give a hoot, don't pollute
