The Pirates finished the regular season with a 12-3 record. Throughout the season the team was plagued by injuries to three of their 12 year old veteran players Anthony Dalton (Broken Elbow), Brendan Sullivan (Broken Nose) & Andrew Noyes (Broken Ankle).  Noyes’ broken ankle would put an end to what was already an excellent season for him.

The 1st place finish gave the Pirates a bye for the 1st round of the playoffs.  The action continued between 4 other teams battling for a shot at the championship title. The 1st place Pirates and 2nd place Yankees patiently waited to see who they would face in the 2nd round of the playoffs. The Pirates would face the Cubs and the Yankees would face the Cardinals. Both the Pirates and Yankees teams would come up with big wins to advance to the next round of the playoffs which would put them against each other on a rainy Father's Day.

After some much needed repair to the field from the coaches and ground crew the game was on. The Pirates battled the Yankees in what turned out to be a a 14-6 victory for the Pirates which was capped off by a Home Run from Cam Wolbach. This loss for the Yankees would place them down to the alternate bracket to face the Cardinals for a chance to get another shot at the Pirates. The Yankees pulled out a win with a 5-1 victory over the Cardinals. Once again the Yankees would have to face the 1st place Pirates in what could be their last game of the 2009 season. The Yankees, never giving up, came to play ball with a big 7-5 win, handing the Pirates their 1st loss of the playoffs to force a game three between the two teams.

The 3rd and final game proved to be the most competitive game all season for both teams.  It was a pitcher's dual right into the top of the 6th inning with 2 outs and men on 1st and 3rd.  The Pirates were leading 2-1 and starting pitcher Joe Garfi had reached his pitch count for the game. With the Yankees number 4 batter Danny Beaton stepping up to the plate, the Pirates were faced with a tough decision on who to put on the mound to finish the inning.  A quick meeting at the pitchers mound with Catcher Brendan Sullivan and Pirates infielders Stevie Noyes, Josh Wesolowski, Sam Castle & Anthony Dalton, the decision was made to bring in Dalton to finish the game. A few defensive adjustments were made placing Joe Garfi in center field, Andrew Greenbaum at 1st, Christopher Muollo in left field  & Cole Tremblay in right. With 2 outs and the game on the line Anthony Dalton had Danny Beaton in the hole with a 1 ball, 2 strike count.  Beaton would rocket the next pitch right to 2nd baseman Sam Castle for the 3rd and final out of the game. The Pirates 2 -1 victory gave them Championship title for 2009 season.
