The Groveland Gators baseball
team has been born!
Groveland
Baseball League (GBL) has elected to participate in the Northern Essex Baseball
League (NEBL) by entering one team for the 2009 Spring season. This team will consist of interested 12
year old players registered in the GBL Major league. We see this as an great opportunity for players to compete on a
50/70 playing field that is larger than the Little League field yet smaller
than the Babe Ruth field they will playing on next year. Thus, on April
18, 2009 Groveland will join 11 other towns including Newburyport
(2), Georgetown, Salisbury/Seabrook, Rowley, Merrimac (MA), Hampton NH,
Rockport, Boxford, Middleton & Amesbury in the NEBL playing a 10 game
spring schedule (+playoffs) on fields with a 50 ft pitching mound and 70 ft
base paths.
GBL (www.grovelandbaseball.org) feels
the NEBL 50/70 experience will be a positive one for all players involved. It
is our intent to
provide additional opportunities for 12 year old GBL regular season players to
play on a larger baseball field (50/70) thus helping in the transition to the
full size Babe Ruth field. We are making participation on this GBL team
available to all registered 12 year old Major League players and to also ensure
participation in NEBL does not adversely impact the Major League program and/or
the experience for players in the GBL.
This team shall be independent with no affiliation with the GBL District
Team or the Summer Teams.
