2014 Season Update

Yes, We are still here. 2014 has presented us with some challenges, the first of which has been the weather (not good) that is preventing us from conducting practices. We put a schedule together that is currently suspended until the Town/School/City officials evaluate the fields, which wil happen next week. Once we get the go-ahead, we will have to revise our schedules to ensure we have sufficient practice time before we begin game-play.

As most everything is geared toward the schedule, other components of starting the season are also delayed (concessions, etc.).

We are still looking into the Groton Little League Day with the Schooners - more to follow.

Our opening day ceremony was scheduled for 4/12/14 but that is now unlikley. We are discussing alternative dates and as soon as we deceide, we will send out correspondance.

The Big Al training for Managers/Coaches/Parents was very well done and those that attended came away with fresh ideas and drills designed to improve players at all levels. We will definetly put a number of these items into use. We have training materials coming for new Managers/Coaches, or for anyone that couldn't attend.

We should be able to post specific information for the Softball program after a scheduled meeting next Monday.

We still need more volunteers for the teams. Please see the Handout section of this webpage to obtain the volunteer forms. Please fill one out and get it to us.

More to follow shortly.

2014 Registration News Update

Folks, It was brought to my attention that I neglected to include the times and location of the in-person registration & player clinic events. My apologies. The next registration/player clinic is scheduled for 2/8/14. It is being held at DBI, 800 Flanders Road, Groton, CT, building 7, door 5. Registration is from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. and the player clinic starts at 1:00, and will go until about 2:30 P.M. Players (BB & SB) need to bring sneakers and their glove. Conditioning and fundamentals will be covered - it is a great time to get a work-out in and get ready for the softball/baseball season (although I know it's still Winter and cold out there!). New 2014 LL Residency Rule

Based on a change in the residency rules for 2014, the impact to the league registration is being evaluated. An excerp of the rule follows: Residence Eligibility Requirements RESIDENCE AND SCHOOL ATTENDANCE PLAYER ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Each local Little League determines the actual geographic boundaries of the area from within which it shall select players. These boundaries must be described in detail and shown on a map and dated when making application for a Little League charter. Players will be eligible to play with that league only if they reside or the physical location of the school where they attend classes is within the boundaries provided to and approved by Little League Baseball, Incorporated.

November 2013 Monthly Meeting

The 2014 Board of Directors voting has not yet completed. The newly-elected officers are supposed to assume their offices at the meeting, so, due to not having all of the needed votes submitted, I need to postpone the Nov monthly meeting. Since next Thursday is Thanksgiving, the meeting is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, 27 Nov 2013, 7:30 P.M. at the Groton City Municipal Building (subject to availability). If we can't meet then, I will submit the BOD results via e-mail, along with the meeting agenda items for comment.

Thanks, and I hope everyone enjoys the upcoming holidays.

Program Information

It seems we are struggling a little more than usual this year finalizing the teams, getting volunteer managers and coaches, and getting the practices scheduled. We are trying and I think we have it solved now. Both our Minors and Tee Ball programs didn't start when we wanted them to, and, we are starting our games 1 week earlier than normal, but as non-competitive programs, we do not record wins or losses. They will actually play more games than they normally would, and that is where they get the most experience. Please be patient with us as we continue to sort out the issues. We are making every effort to provide the children with a positive experience.

Sincerely,

William Kelly
