GTYSC 2013 Sponsors

On behalf of the GTYSC we would like to make a special thanks to our sponsors for their support during the 2013 soccer season. It is our sponsors that make soccer in Grimsby the number one summer sport with registration in excess of 1600 players; it is their sponsorship dollars that allow GTYSC keep soccer affordable. Please do your best to support the sponsors in our community that have supported you through GTYSC. Thanks again for your support.

Please click on "Sponsor Links" on the left and check out the alphabetical listing of our sponsors (most have a link to their website). Learn about their products and services, their location and contact information.

Policy on Volunteers & Members with Criminal Records

This policy was adopted by the GTYSC Board of Directors in November 2002 and revised in March 2009. This forms part of the mandatory Ontario Soccer Association volunteer screening initiative. Police record checks are required for all team officials (coach, assistant coaches, manager).

Zero Tolerance Policy for Referee Abuse

The development of youth referees is as important to soccer as the development of youth players. Verbal abuse directed towards game officials has become a significant issue over the past few years and the drop-out rate for young referees is alarming. Please take the time to download and read these GTYSC policies and notes. These two handouts were distributed to all house league parents. The first is our policy on referee abuse; the second is a note primarily for team officials regarding referee authority.   Click on "referee info." on the left.

Coach Training Aids DVD Listing

The GTYSC has purchased a number of soccer related training DVD's as an aid for coaches and to enhance player development.  A listing of DVD's in our library is available by clicking on "handout" below.- please contact Bill Millar  Director of coaching to obtain your choice of disc title. email: bill_millar@sympatico.ca

To All Travel Coaches - Exhibition Games

If you are planning an exhibition game (regardless of the opponent, two Grimsby teams for instance), you must advise the NSA at least 24 hours in advance. This is an OSA and insurance requirement. If an exhibition game is not sanctioned by the NSA neither the players, coaches nor club are covered by insurance. Games played out of the Niagara District require a travel permit as well from the NSA. The NSA office is at 94 Dunkirk Rd., Unit 6 in St. Catharines - telephone 905-984-8411; fax 905-984-8422. To email the NSA, click here. Travel permits for Grimsby teams are issued by the club, email: gtysc@sympatico.ca Failure to obtain a permit in advance of the scheduled game = no game may take place.

Rules re Wearing of Jewellery on the Playing Field

Some of our referees are encountering verbal flak regarding removal of players' jewellery before games. The CSA rules are absolutely clear - "no item of jewellery of any sort will be allowed on the field of play, even if it is 'taped' i.e. covered". Please click on the underlined title of this note to link to the CSA policy and review it.

GTYSC No Smoking Policy

image_name2

Please refrain from smoking at all of our fields and facilities.

GTYSC wishes to create a healthy environment for all our participants and given that the vast majority of our 1,700 players are youth, setting an example is important.    If you absolutely must smoke, do so in your vehicle.  Virtually all of our Grimsby soccer fields and facilities are owned by the District School Board of Niagara - their policy manual states "in accordance with the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, smoking is prohibited on all school lands and premises".

Out of Province Medical Coverage

GTYSC STRONGLY RECOMMENDS that teams travelling outside Ontario for tournaments purchase supplementary medical coverage. It is available from a number of sources. One option is the insurance broker handling the Ontario Soccer Association policies - HKMB International Insurance Brokers - (currently about $2.75 per person per day) click on the underlined title of this note to link to their website.
EVEN THE COST OF A SIMPLE AMBULANCE TRIP IN THE U.S. CAN BE STAGGERING - GET COVERAGE.

Newspaper Submissions

We all know players and sponsors like to see game write-ups (with their name) in the newspaper. Please ensure that your game summaries (with photos if you wish) prominently highlight the sponsor's name.
