GRIMES SOFTBALL FIELD STATUS

The Grimes Softball Association sponsors travel teams at the 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U age divisions.  The number of teams are based on the number of players interested, number of pitchers, and the number of qualified coaches.  Following is the annual calendar for GSA Travel Teams:

July........................Red Coaches are selected by GSA Board, the evaluation process, and evaluators are approved.  Coaches interested in coaching a travel team in 2010 should contact Jeff Wolfe by 7/5/09.

August 19th & 21st..Try-outs are held at Grimes Sports Complex.

August - October.....Fall softball teams play in MIGS or Ames League (optional)

April.......................Spring League in Ames or Beaverdale.

May - June...............Tournament Season

Playing on a travel team requires committment but is very fun for girls who enjoy competitive softball.  Jeff Wolfe is the travel team director for the GSA.  Call him with any questions at 681-6462.

Our 14U Fillie team placed 2nd in the 14U-B State tournament on June 13-14.  These young Fillies went 6-2 with the two loses to the Johnston Jaguars who were the tournament champions.  The Fillies played through the losers bracket playing FIVE games in a row.  Their last two games were against Johnston where the Fillies won the first game but lost the final game. 

The 14U team wrap up their season at Urbandale over 4th of July weekend.

Fastpitch softball pitching is a technical skill.  Players that are interested in becoming a pitcher should consider private lessons from a skilled instructor.  Practicing is important but learning correct fundamentals is essential for young pitchers. 

The following instructors are available to work with young pitchers on a 1 on 1 basis.  The cost negotiated is $25 for a 30 minute lesson. Scheduling and payment will be coordinated directly with the pitching coach.
