Greenwood Little League: 2012 Divisions
JUNIOR DIVISION (HIGHLY COMPETITIVE & ADVANCED PLAY)Ages 13, 14, and 15
This is the league which is prelude to high school play.
Managers and Coaches will continue to teach fundamentals of the game of baseball. They should teach advanced play options, pitching with curves, sliders, change ups, etc. are taught. Positional strike zone pitching is used.
Bunting is used more and directional batting is enhanced. Signals are used constantly. Plays are designed and executed at this level. Stealing is elevated. Slides should be executed instinctively.
Majors
MAJOR LEAGUE (HIGHLY COMPETITIVE & INSTRUCTIONAL)Ages 9, 10, 11, and 12
Managers and Coaches will teach the game of baseball with a continuation of the enhanced play options. Pitching becomes paramount, stress accuracy and teaches speed change ups; teach stretch vs. full windup, NO WRIST ACTION PITCHING SHOULD BE STRESSED.
Double play and run downs should be enhanced. Enhancement of ball handling should be continued. Directional batting and bunting should be enhanced. Continue slide instructions by adding hook slide and pop up slide techniques. Stealing bases should be enhanced.
Protest options should begin to be taught. Signal use should be taught at this level and used throughout the season.
AAA (Triple A)
"AAA" LEAGUE (INSTRUCTIONAL & COMPETITIVE)Ages 9, 10, 11, and 12
Managers and Coaches will continue teaching the fundamental aspects of the game with enhanced play options. NO WRIST ACTION PITCHING IS ALLOWED. How to slide into a base and how to bunt should be taught. Double play and run downs should be introduced at this level. Stress enhancement of ball handling. Directional batting should begin to be taught.
Since the installation of the 10 year old ALL STARS some emphasis on winning the game is to be used as incentive to execute play well.
AA (Double A)
"AA" LEAGUE (INSTRUCTIONAL) Generally Ages 8 and 9
Managers and coaches will stress fundamentals and keys to playing the different positions. Players are introduced to pitching. NO WRIST ACTION PITCHING IS ALLOWED. It is hoped that the enhanced level of play for this age group will aid in the complete development of players for the upper leagues, and add more excitement for the player.
A (Single A)
"A" LEAGUE (INSTRUCTIONAL & NON COMPETITIVE)Ages 7 and 8.
This is GLL's coach pitch division.
Managers and Coaches will teach fundamentals catching, running, throwing, batting; how to step into the pitch, how to play positions should begin in this division.
The managers and coaches of the "A" League will concentrate on teaching the fundmentals DO NOT stress winning. They will stress individual achievement and team achievement in playing the game well and executing play well. The manager will convey this attitude to the Parents of the team members. He or she will set an example to be followed by the parents and players alike.
Rookies
ROOKIES LEAGUE (INSTRUCTIONAL &VERY NON COMPETITIVE)Ages 5 and 6
Must be 4 years of age by April 30.
Managers and Coaches teach fundamentals: catching; how to catch flys and grounders, running; when to leave the base, how to run to the bases, when to stop, throwing; how the body and arm are supposed to move during the throw, when to release, how to get the ball to the other player with the throw, batting; how to swing the bat, how to connect the bat with the ball on the tee, how to stand INSIDE the batters box, how to step to the ball.
The managers and coaches of the Rookie League will concentrate on teaching the fundmentals and DO NOT stress winning. They will stress individual achievement and team achievement in playing the game well and executing play well. The manager will convey this attitude to the Parents of the team members. He or she will set an example to be followed by the parents and players alike.
Challenger League
The Challenger League enables boys and girls with physical and mental disabilities, ages 5-18 to enjoy the game of baseball along with the millions of other children who participate in this sport worldwide. The Challenger League games are played on Friday nights at the Greenwood Little League diamonds.
