STATE TOURNAMENT:(Aug 3) Knights lose thriller to Cody, 14-13. Finish Third at State. Green River was behind 10-2 after 5 innings, and 11-3 after 6. The Knights rallied for 8 runs in the seventh, highlighted by a grand slam home run by Willie Zajic, followed by a solo blast by Isaiah Munoz to tie the game at 11. GR fell behind again, 13-11, after eight innings, and tied the score again in the ninth on another Isaiah Munoz homer, only to lose the game when Cody pushed across a run in the bottom of the ninth. Zajic went 2 for 5 with the homer and 5 RBI. Munoz went 3 for 5 with two homers and 4 RBI. Tyler Wood went 3 for 4, which gave him 9 hits in his last 10 at bats in the tournament. Chance Wood went 3 for 5, and Joe Wisniewski was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Green River's season long nemisis, the walk, bit the Knights again, as four Knights pitchers (Phil Martinez, Quinten McKenzie, Willie Zajic, and Tanner Hanks) issued 12 free passes and hit 6 batters. Of those 18 runners to reach base for Cody, 8 scored. Martinez started on the mound and struggled, relieved in the third after allowing 6 earned runs on nine hits and six walks. McKenzie pitched the next 3 2/3 innings, and held Cody to one earned run on three hits. Zajic came on in the seventh, his fourth appearance in five games totaling 12 2/3 innings pitched in four days, and got the Knights out of a bases loaded jam. Zajic finally tired in the eighth, and allowed two earned runs on a walk, three hit batters, and a single. Hanks was handed the ball in the bottom of the ninth, and surrendered a hit batter, a walk, and the game winning single. The Knights finished the season 30-19, and advanced further at state than any previous Green River Legion Baseball team.

(Aug 2) Knights defeat Douglas, 10-8, and Gillette, 12-11, to advance to the tournament semi-final game, a rematch vs Cody on Saturday.

Against Douglas, Mike Pelletier pitched 7 1/3 strong innings and held the Cats to 3 earned runs on 9 hits, and struck out six, for his fifth win. Willie Zajic pitched the final 1 2/3 innings for his third save. Game was tied 8-8 after seven. Joe Wisniewski, who went 3 for 4, led off the eighth with a triple and continued home on a throwing error to score the winning run. GR added an insurance run in the ninth, when Pelletier singled, moved to second on a single by Phil Martinez, and scored on an error.

Against Gillette, Tyler Wood broke an 11-11 tie with a walk off double down the right field line scoring pinch runner Kale Eslick for the win. Phil Martinez had started the bottom of the ninth with a sharp single up the middle. Wood went six for six, with a home run, two doubles, three singles, two RBI, and 2 stolen bases. A Willie Zajic (3 for 5) 2-run homer in the sixth gave GR an 11-5 lead, but Gillette fought back with 4 in the seventh and 2 in the eighth to tie the score, setting the stage for Wood's heroics. Isaiah Munoz (3 for 5) and Austin Cave (2 for 4) continued their hot hitting for the Knights. Tanner Hanks contributed a big two-run single in the fourth. Hanks and Zajic held the Rustlers to four hits, with Zajic picking up his ninth win in three innings of relief.

(Aug 1) Knights beat Rawlins, 9-0, behind complete game nine-inning three hit shutout by Austin Zeglen, who struck out nine Generals. Zeglen aided his own cause going 2 for 5 with an RBI double. Leading only 1-0 through four innings, GR broke the game open with four in the fifth and two in the sixth. Zeglen, Joe Wisniewski, Austin Cave, Isaiah Munoz, and Kale Eslick tally two hits each, in leading a 14 hit attack. Knights play errorless baseball. Line Score: GR 9-14-0; Rawlins 0-3-7.
