Greendell Falcons 11A2: Welcome

Falcons win Bronze!!

Game 5 – vs East St-Paul

The Greendell Falcons capped off their season with a 6-1 win over East St-Paul to capture the Bronze medal at the South West Spring Classic Tournament. The Falcons would allow the first goal but would not be denied scoring 6 unanswered goals including a natural hat trick for Josh Fouquette.

Congratulations to all the players, coaches and parents on a fabulous season.

Game 1 – vs St-Boniface White

Greendell wins 7-2 to kick off the South Winnipeg Spring Classic. With the pressure of the City playoffs gone, the Falcons returned to the team we were used to seeing over the last half of the season. With a strong forecheck, good passing and everyone helping in their own zone, Greendell had no trouble in this game.

Game 2 – vs Roblin Park

Having been knocked out of the City playoffs on Wednesday night in a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Ravenscourt, the Pirates would look to bring the same intensity to the Spring Classic. Unfortunately for them, Greendell has found their game and dominated Roblin Park in a 4-1 win. Being outshot 27-15, the Pirates could not handle the tenacious checking of a relentless Falcons team. Matt "Marty" Tymko played a solid game making 14 saves.

Josh (2) - (Sebastian)

Nikolai (2) - (Colin)

Nolan (2) - (Vincenzo)

Game 3 – vs St-Boniface Red

With this game having no bearing on the outcome of the tournament, Greendell would look for some payback after losing to this team in the Christmas Challenge tournament. The Falcons would again outplay their opponent for the majority of this game but were facing another outstanding performance by the St-B goalie. Tied 1-1 after two periods, it was anyone's game. Greendell would pull away with two goals in the third for a 3-1 win.

Tanner (1) - (Nikolai, Colin)

Brendin (3) - (Ryan)

Nolan (3) - (Josh, Vincenzo)

Game 4 – vs Dakota (Semifinal)

After a perfect 3-0 record in the round robin, the Greendell Falcons could not find a way to extend the win streak against the Dakota Lazers. Evenly matched throughout the season, this would be another tight checking game. After surrendering a 2-0 lead which included a penalty shot, the Falcons would find themselves having to claw their way back into this game.

Having already killed two penalties, Greendell would find themselves down 2 skaters for 1 1/2 minutes in the 2nd period. The team would do a great job of killing both penalties and score their only goal shorthanded when Sebastian would carry from his own zone and deke the Dakota goalie. Sebastian would come close to tieing the game when he hit the crossbar late in the 2nd period.

Down 2-1 in the 3rd period, Greendell worked hard, creating chances and throwing body checks all over the ice but could not beat Xavier who played a solid game as did Falcons goalie Matt T.

Sebastian (2) - (Brendin)

Game 5 – vs East St-Paul (Bronze Medal Game)

Greendell will finish their season when they battle East St-Paul for the bronze on Thursday March 24th at 8:15pm at Varsity View.
