SM 4 TL 1

NOVATO--Late arriving spectators didn't hang around long as the Mustangs finished off Terra Linda, 4-1, in a game that lasted just 1:25 minutes.

Coming in with a 7-10 record, the Mustangs entered the afternoon a full game behind the Tam Hawks (7-8) for the final MCAL playoff spot.

Trevor Robinson became the Mustangs' second MCAL batting champ since 2007 (Vince Ross) with a 2 for 3 performance. Robinson put the Mustangs up for good in the bottom of the first by depositing a pitch on to the rightfield hill, giving San Marin a 2-0 lead.

Robinson would later double and cross the plate along with Ryan Zirkle in the third inning, extending the Mustang lead to 4-0.

Brice Briare helped his own cause with a double and a single as he tossed six innings of one-run ball.

Jack Connolly appeared from the bullpen for the third time this week and produced a scoreless inning while collecting the save.

NOTES: The Tam Hawks would go on to finish the week, 0-3, ending their year and sending the Mustangs on to the post-season for the twelfth consecutive season.

The Mustangs travel to Justin-Siena on Tuesday in a single elimination game. First pitch is 4:30.

Extra inning disappointment

LARKSPUR--It took eleven innings to put this one in the books and while the San Marin Mustangs continue to play hard and stay competitive, the team continues to come up short in 1-run ballgames.

The Mustangs drop to 1-6 in one-run games and turned in another frustrating performance just one day after losing by a run on the final play of the game.

The Giants would score the winner on a two-out throwing error, winning, 3-2.

Starting pitcher, Riley Fewell, was one pitch away from ending the game before Redwood dropped a single into leftfield, tying the game at two and sending it to extra frames.

Fewell was outstanding all day long, scattering six hits, allowing just two earned runs and being the first San Marin pitcher to go that deep into a game this year.

Trevor Robinson continued to stay hot at the plate, going 4 for 5 on the day.

Anthony Crivello reached base four times with three walks and a single.

For the second straight day, Jack Connolly came out of the bullpen to provide the Mustangs with excellent pitching, going 3 2/3 innings without allowing a hit or earned run as the hard luck loser.

NOVATO--The Mustangs gave a streaking Drake Pirate team all they could handle last Monday, taking the game down to its final out.

Dylan Keller went 3 for 3 and reached base four times, scoring the Mustangs only run in the ballgame. Trevor Robinson drove in San Marin's only run and went 2 for 3 (double) in Drake's 2-1 win over the Mustangs at Lefty Gomez Field.

In the bottom of the seventh, Charlie Slack led the inning off with a single. Dom Bruschera entered the game as a pinch-runner and stole secondbase. Two outs later, Keller chopped a ball in the infield and beat the throw out at first, Bruschera tried to score from secondbase on the play but was tagged out on a close play at the plate, ending the game.

Cameron Figone gave San Marin five solid innings on the hill, striking out six and allowing just one earned run.  Jack Connolly threw two scoreless innings in relief.

KENTFIELD--Jack Connolly worked his way out of a bases loaded jam with none out in the bottom of the seventh to help the Mustangs hang on for a 7-5 victory over the Branson Bulls on Tuesday.

Riley Fewell earned the win, giving San Marin six innings of work before giving way to Connolly with runners on first and second (in the seventh). The Bulls had cut the Mustang lead from 7-3 to 7-5 and loaded the bases with an infield single before Connolly registered back-to-back strikeouts and got a pop fly to second base to end the threat.

Ryan Zirkle had the game's first hit and run scored and later tripled in a run in four at-bats. Trevor Robinson reached base all four times, drawing a pair of walks and added two singles.

Dylan Keller and Derrick Buckhanan chipped in with RBI singles for San Marin.

The Mustangs not only broke a three game losing streak but moved into a tie for the sixth and final MCAL playoff spot when Tam lost to Novato.

With three games to go in league play, San Marin meets the Drake Pirates at Lefty Gomez Field on Friday at 4:30pm.

MILL VALLEY--Three unearned runs allowed in the bottom of the third inning helped the Tamalpais Hawks get passed the Mustangs, 4-3, at Tam on Friday.

Trevor Robinson put the Mustangs on top in the top half of the third with a seeing eye single, scoring Dylan Keller.

A pair of walks, an error and a pair of Tam hits contributed to their three run third.

The Hawks added another run an inning later, increasing the Hawks lead to 4-1.

Leading off the fifth, Robinson singled for the second time and Ryan Riboli followed with a base-hit up the middle. After Derrick Buckhanan walked, Charlie Slack grounded into a fielders choice, scoring Robinson. Riboli would cross the plate on a wild pitch, slicing Tam's lead to 4-3.

San Marin went hitless over their final two at-bats despite a deep flyball (to  centerfield) off the bat of Robinson that was tracked down on the run to lead off the seventh.

Jack Connolly made his third relief appearance of the week, holding the Hawks to two hits and three scoreless innings.

The Mustangs find themselves one game out of the MCAL Playoff picture with four games to go over the next two weeks.

Next Up: San Marin travels to College of Marin on Tuesday to meet the Branson Bulls.

First pitch is 4:30.

Stranded runners haunt Mustangs

NOVATO--Missed opportunities were a deciding factor in San Marin's 4-2 loss to Novato on Tuesday.

After the first four batters for San Marin reached base via walk or hit batsman, the team was able to push only one run across the plate.

In the third and fourth innings, the Mustangs again left the bases full, missing golden opportunities to break the game open.

Ryan Riboli and Trevor Robinson had the Mustangs' only RBI's on the day. Riboli reached base three times while Robinson singled and reached base twice.

Riley Fewell started his first league contest of the season, pitching his team into the fifth inning. Jack Connolly tossed 2 2/3 innings of shut out ball.

With five league games left on the schedule, the Mustangs find themselves tied for the sixth and final playoff spot with the Tam Hawks. The two team meet on Friday in Mill Valley at 4:30.

NAPA--After scoring 48 runs in their last four games, the Mustangs were held to just one run (and six hits) in their 6-1 defeat, at the hands of the Justin-Siena Braves.

The Mustangs scored right away in the top half of the first when Trevor Robinson singled home Ryan Zirkle for a brief 1-0 lead.

The Braves came right back to tie the score in the bottom half of the inning.

In the fourth, Justin-Siena would take the lead for good with a pair of runs and added three insurance runs in the sixth to complete the day's scoring.

Dylan Keller doubled to increase his team lead in that catagory to nine for the year. Keller leads all Mustang hitters with 20 hits this season.

San Marin squares off with crosstown rival, Novato on Tuesday at Lefty Gomez Field.

Game time is 4:30.

Mustangs take 2 of 3 in Eagle Classic Tournament

An opening game one-run loss to host, Kennedy (of Fremont) was the only thing standing in the way of the Mustangs from completing a three day sweep of East Bay opponents in this year's Easter Tournament.

The Mustangs bounced back from the opening game loss to defeat Mt. Diablo and San Lorenzo to move their season record to 8-7.

--San Marin 13 San Lorenzo 6 (April 15th)--

After falling behind 6-3, the Mustangs exploded with an eight-run sixth inning to capture the victory in the tournament's Consolation game.

Derrick Buckhanan stayed hot at the plate delivering two more hits  (seven in the tournament) and driving home three runs while Jack Connolly doubled home a pair of runs and came in relief to toss three scoreless innings and claim the victory.

Dylan Keller kept his season average over .400 with three doubles in the contest and Ryan Riboli had two more hits and 4 RBI for the Mustangs.

The 13 runs scored marked the the third time in four games the Mustangs have scored that run total.

--San Marin 13 Mt. Diablo 3 (April 13th)--

The Mustangs made quick work of Mt. Diablo, by ten-running the Red Devils in six innings. Riley Fewell made his first varsity start and didn't disappoint by allowing just two hits over 4 and 1/3 innings. Jack Connolly came in relief for the second straight game and shut the door on Mt. Diablo.

Brian Soares (2 RBI), JT Delagnes (4 RBI), Christian Lowrie (2 RBI) and  Derrick Buckhanan each provided two hits for San Marin.

Joe McManus scored three times for the Mustangs and Riley Fewell doubled off the leftfield fence to drive home a pair of runs.

--Kennedy 10 San Marin 9 (April 11th)--

Derrick Buckhanan had a big day, going 3 for 4 with a 3-run home run and driving in four runs in the game. Ryan Riboli hit his first ever home run and collected three hits while scoring three times for San Marin. Ryan Zirkle returned to the varsity and added two hits and scored twice.

NOVATO--On March 10th, San Marin marched into Bulldog Stadium and pounded San Rafael, 10-1. This time the Bulldogs made things interesting in the late innings but thirteen more runs from San Marin bats were to too much to overcome in the Mustangs 13-9 win over San Rafael.

The quartet of Charlie Slack (2 for 4, 2 RBI), Trevor Robinson (3 for 4, 3 runs, 2 RBI), Derrick Buckhanan (2 for 4, 2 runs, 2 RBI) and Ryan Riboli (3 for 4, 2 RBI) did most of the damage as the Mustangs produced twelve hits on the afternoon.

Brice Briare and Dominic Bruschera also added RBI hits.

Briare and Riley Fewell teamed up on the hill for San Marin. Briare collected the win with four innings of work.

The Mustangs led, 10-1, until the fourth inning when San Rafael cut the score in half. The Bulldogs would creep to within two runs in the top of the sixth before the Mustangs struck for three more runs in the bottom half of the inning.

The victory moves the Mustangs back over .500 in league at 7-6, going into the Easter Break.

NOVATO--Two hits, two walks and a throwing error allowed by the Mustangs in the top of the first inning turned out to be the difference in their 4-1 defeat to Marin Catholic at Lefty Gomez Field.

After allowing the three unearned runs to the Wildcats, the Mustangs fought back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the first. Brice Briare singled and moved to second on a wild pitch before Trevor Robinson provided the only run of the day for San Marin, singling to left-centerfield and scoring Briare.

Robinson's RBI was the third straight game that he's driven home a run.

Dylan Keller kept his season long hitting streak alive, improving it to ten straight games with a double to deep leftfield in the fourth inning.

In the seventh inning, Mustang catcher, Charlie Slack, made one of the finer defensive plays of the season as he stretched out to retrieve a foul ball that sent him crashing into backstop.

Starting pitcher, Brice Briare, tossed five innings of five-hit ball, allowing just one earned run while Riley Fewell threw two scoreless innings in relief.
