NOVATO--The Mustangs took advantage of Matt Testa's arm and Tony Tayor's bat as the team defeated the Terra Linda Trojans, 3-1, to advance to the North Coast Section title game for the third time in five years.

Matt Testa went the distance, fanning six Trojans and scattering just five hits on another cool day at Lefty Gomez Field.

Tony Taylor led off the game (The Mustangs lost the coin flip and were visitors) with a triple to right-centerfield. Taylor would score moments later from a Kyle Morrow sacrifice fly.

The Trojans would not figure out how to retire Taylor in this game as he went a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate.

In the fourth, Mike Gonzalez got things started with a single between shortstop and thirdbase. After stealing second, Gonzalez scored off of a base hit from Kellen Porter.

In the bottom of the sixth, Terra Linda cut the lead in half after getting a triple and sacrifice fly from their first two hitters in the inning.

The Mustangs tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh after Vince Liberatore singled to lead off the inning. Aaron Martinez (pinch running for Liberatore) moved to second on a well placed sacrifice bunt off the bat of Casey Fewell. Taylor would strike again with a single up the middle, sending home the final run of the game.

Top seeded San Marin will square off against second seeded Arcata on Saturday at Albert Park to determine the 2008 2A NCS champion.

First pitch is 7pm.

SAN RAFAEL--The third time was not the charm San Marin had hoped for against the Marin Wildcats in Saturday evening's MCAL Championship game.

Three first inning errors put the Mustangs into a gaping 3-0 hole and the Wildcats would score two more runs in the second to extend their lead to 5-0, on their way to a 5-3 victory.

The Mustangs (18-7) were the beneficiaries of seven walks (and a hit batsman) into the fourth inning but were unable to capitalize, stranding eight runners through the first four frames.

Kyle Morrow delivered San Marin's first hit of the game to lead off the fifth. He would later score from a Mike Gonzalez double.

Trailing 5-1 and down to their last at-bat, the Mustangs made things interesting when Tony Taylor led the inning off with a double. Morrow followed with a single. Bobby Bowers' single to rightfield made the score 5-2. Mike Driscoll's fielder's choice produced San Marin's third run but the Wildcats (20-6) would buckle down and get the next two outs they needed to take home the league pennant.

Michael Lopez tossed a complete game, six-hitter, striking out three.

The Mustangs move forward to NCS play next week.

SAN RAFAEL--Matt Testa went the distance, allowing four hits and fanning eight Drake Pirate hitters on his way to a 3-2 decision. The win sends San Marin to it's second consecutive MCAL championship game Saturday night against the Marin Catholic Wildcats.

The Mustangs (18-6) took advantage of Drake errors in the first and second inning and got an RBI-single from catcher, Mike Gonzalez to stake the Mustangs to a 3-0 lead, only to hang on to thanks to Testa's gutsy performance.

The Pirates (15-11)  got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning and scored their second run in the sixth. Drake's lead off hitter in the seventh inning was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Testa came back to strike out the next hitter and induce a groundball to Kyle Morrow at secondbase to shut the door.

Morrow reached base in all three of his at-bats and scored the game's first run of the night.

Kellen Porter made his return to the starting lineup after missing time since the Spring tournament. Porter went 1 for 3, singling in his first at-bat and scoring what turned to be the game's winning run.

Mike Driscoll added a double for the Mustangs.

SAN ANSELMO--Matt Testa's complete game, six-hitter and Tony Taylor's third inning solo homerun weren't enough to get the Mustangs past the Drake Pirates on Tuesday, leading to San Marin's first losing streak of the season.

Dating back to April 15th, the Mustangs have lost four of their last six games, each by just one run.

The Mustangs led by as much as 3-0 after Bobby Bowers clubbed a tw0-run homerun to leftfield, scoring he and Kyle Morrow (2 for 3, double) but the Bulldogs would string together six consecutive base runners in their next at-bat and never look back.

San Marin cut the lead to a run when Vince Liberatore ( 1 for 4) scored off of Tony Taylor's ground out in the sixth.

A seventh inning rally fell short for the Mustangs after Mike Driscoll led things off with his second single of the game and Matt Testa reached after being hit by a pitch.

FREMONT--After just one inning into the 2008 season, the San Marin Mustangs found themselves looking at a 4-0 deficit.

It didn't take long for the Mustangs' fortune to turn as the San Marin offense put on a scoring display rivaled by few of their teams in recent years, over the course of the next two innings.

Mustang hitters broke out for five runs in the top of the second, highlighted by doubles from Kellen Porter and Kyle Morrow and a bases clearing triple off the bat of shortstop, Tony Taylor, putting San Marin up, 5-4.

An inning later, the Mustangs duplicated the feat with another five run outburst as Porter doubled for the second straight time and Dave Ashburn delivered a two-run single.

Leading 10-4 in the top of the fourth, Mike Driscoll added to the fireworks with a towering solo homerun over the leftfield fence for the Mustangs.

San Marin struck again in the seventh when Charlie Slack came off the bench to single and later score from another pinch-single off the bat of Casey Fewell. Fewell would later score on a wild pitch.

When the dust had settled at Dennis Eckersley Field, the Mustangs had accounted for eleven hits, seven of which were of the extra base variety, against Eagle pitching, in the 13-5 San Marin win.

Starting pitcher, Bobby Bowers, settled down after a slow start to record scoreless innings in the second and third frames, including a 1-2-3 third inning.

Matt Testa tossed three scoreless innings, striking out three along the way.

Evan Coleman collected his first varsity hit with a two-out single in the top of the seventh.
