Greater Laurel United Soccer Club: What Equipment Do I Need
Equipment
If this is your child's first time playing soccer we recommend you spend as little money as possible. There are however certain necessities they will need to play. Modells sponsors Team Week for us twice a year. The dates vary, but usually coincide with the beginning of our spring and fall seasons. During Team Week you save 15% on all your purchases when you mention you are a member of the GLUSC.
If your child is committed to playing soccer for the long-run Soccer American is a great place to find more advanced style equipment. They have locations at 6656 Dobbin Road in Columbia and 3833 Plyers Mill Road in Kensington.
CLEATS
These are shoes that have rubber ‘knobs’ on the bottom. Any sports store or Target, orWal-Mart can help you find a pair. Do not get metal spiked cleats or football cleats (football cleats have an extra nob at the toe of the shoe).
SHIN PADS
These are pads that go on your child’s shin (the part of the leg in between their ankle and
knee) Any sports store or Target, or Wal-Mart can help you find a pair.
SOCCER BALL
Your child will need their own ball to bring to practice. Chldren 8 and under will need a size
3 ball. Ages 9 - 12 will need a size 4 ball. 13 and older will need a size 5 ball.
WATER BOTTLE
Your child will get thirst playing soccer. We encourage water over sports drinks, soda or juice. Please bring at least 16oz to 32oz of water for your child to remain hydrated.
UNIFORM
The GLUSC provides a jersey and socks for each player. These are yours to keep. Shorts are not provided.
