Memorable Moments in Grady Track
1. Nick Stephens and Saji Girvan battle to a 1-2 finish in the 1600 at the 2005 state meet. Stephens leaves Grady with 6 state titles. Girvin finished second in the 800 as well, setting a school record, as Stephens also took the 3200.
2. Gegamu Ege, after numerous 2nd place finishes, gets a monkey off his back, defeating Westminster's Blake Jorgenson for the 2000 region and state titles in the 1600 and 3200.
3. Andrew Moore sets a school record with a long jump of 24'1, the state's best for all classes, enroute to his first state championship in the long jump.
4. Jonathan Moore overcomes adversity at the city meet to win the first of two 800 meter state titles in 2000.
5. Tavares Monroe, a virtual unknown with only a year as a runner, takes the 1999 200 meter state championship.
6. Robert Owens, a second year runner, wins the 2002 400 meter state title and sets a school record of 49.46 at region. Owens was city runner-up in the 400 as well.
7. Wes Vernon wins the 3200 and finishes third in the 1600 at the 2006 state meet.
8. Wil Cramer finishes 2nd in the 1600 and 3200 at the 2002 state meet. The previous year, he finished 2nd in the 3200 and 4th in the 1600.
9. The 4x100 quartet of Zachary Koen, Demarcus Watts, Dexter Barnett and Kari Kemp finish state runner-up in 2007 and sets a school record of 41.86, garnering a Top 10 state ranking and a national ranking, qualifying for the Nike Outdoor Nationals.
9. The 4x 400 quartet of Andrew Moore, Jonathan Moore, Robert Owens and Jeremy Bateman finish state runner-up in the 4 x 400 in 2001 and sets a school record of 3:23.5.
10. Jeremy Bateman finishes as state runner-up in the 200 and third in the 100 in 2001.
11. Collier Johnson sets a school record with a third place state finish in the 800 meters in 2006.
12. The 4x100 relay team of Calvin Colquitt, Jeremy Bateman, Willie Millings and Jacob Richmond surpises the city with a second-place finish in the 2000 Atlanta Track Classic enroute to setting a school record of 42.5.
12. Demarcus Watts hits the national rankings at #34 with in 2007 a 21.52 in the Region 5AAA Prelims. He established new school records of 10.68 and 21.52, moving into the state's top 10 in both events.
13. The 4x400 team of Demarcus Watts, Kevin Eccles, Kari Kemp and Jarvis Caffey establishes a new 4x400 record of 3:22.45 in the prelims of the Atlanta Track Classic.
13. Jeremy Bateman slips to the track at the start of the 100 meters and blazes to a 10.7 (h) victory in the 100 vs Mays and Crim in 2001.
14. Demarcus Watts, fresh from the baseball field joins the team at midseason and sets a new FAT school record in the 100 meters of 10.98 enroute to winning the 100 and 200 at the 2006 region meet.
15. Nicholas Gill becomes Grady's first athlete to qualify for the state meet in three individual events as he took the 2004 region title in the 300 hurdles and was region runner-up in the 110 hurdles and triple jump.
16. The 4x400 relay team of Nick Oliver, Robert Owens, Ismail Ali and Jermaine Revere take the 2002 region title.
17. First-year hurdler Brandon Thurmond steps up in place of the injured Isaac Coleman and takes the region 300 hurdles title in 2005.
18. First-year hurdler Isaac Coleman takes the city title in the 300 hurdles in 2005.
19. Andrerius Thomas, a freshman, takes the region title in the long jump and high jump in 2005. Thomas was also city champion in the high jump.
21. Ricky Jordan takes region title with an old school record of 22-5 in the 1984 6AA region meet.
21. Wesley Journey, a sophomore, wins the city title in the shot put in 2005.
22. Antonio Lowe finishes as city runner-up in the 400 meters in 2006.
23. Takuma Hagood finishes as city runner-up in the 400 meters in 2004.
24. Kari Kemp finishes as region runner up in the 300 hurdles, qualifying for state in 2006.
25. Tony Bryant finishes as city runner-up in the discus in 2005.
26. Wilkie Smith, drum major and standout basketball player, wins region 6AA in the 110 hurdles, qualifying for the state meet.
27. Delbert Ellerton finishes as region runner-up in the 300 hurdles in 1987 after a 3rd place finish in 1986, while doubling as a 100 meter sprinter. Clocks 9.8 for 100 yards in first meet of 1986.

Track Team Gets $3,500 Grant From The Atlanta Track Club Foundation
The Grady boys track team would like to extend a special thanks to the Atlanta Track Club Foundation for its $3,500 grant in support of the team for the 2008 upcoming track season. The money will be used to purchase a school set of uniforms and warm-ups for the team.
The team would also like to extend thanks to Trader Joe's for its interest in assisting the team with water and energy bars for the upcoming season as well.
