Q: What equipment do I need to get for my child to play soccer?
A: The only required equipment is a pair of age/size appropriate shin guards. It is also recommended that each child have their own soccer ball and soccer cleats.
Q: What is the Registration Fee for my child?
A: The registration fees for all Recreational Players is $60 and for Competitive Players $100 for Registration and $50 for uniforms.
Q: Can I pay by Check instead of Credit Card?
A: Yes, you can pay by Check by mailing the Check and registration forms to GPSA, P.O. Box 381, Portland, TX 78374. Once you get to the payment section of the online registration, you can exit out of the registration process and mail the check to the P.O. Box.
Q: Do I need to print the forms from the online registration?
A: Since this is a new registration system and some people have had problems printing the forms, the League will be printing the forms and giving them to your child's coach for you to sign. If you have already printed the forms, just give them to your coach at your first meeting or practice.
Q: When can my child start playing soccer?
A: Children must be turning four (4) during the season to start playing soccer. If your child turns 4 between July 1 and December 31st, 2008, then they may play in the Fall 2008 season, but if they turn 4 between January 1 and June 30th, 2009, then they must wait until the Spring 2008 season to start playing soccer.
Q: When, How long and Where are practices and games held?
A: The coaches are in charge of their own practice schedules. Most teams practice once to twice a week for an hour to an hour and a half after 5:00pm. The U6 and under divisions are limited to practicing just once a week. Practices are held all over the city at the different city parks and your coach will let you know which one they will be using. Most games are on Saturday mornings at the Portland Soccer Fields. If there are rainouts or cancellations, then there might be a game during the week after 5:00pm. For the U10 and above divisions there may be some travel involved to play teams in Corpus Christi or the surrounding areas. Only in the Competitive Divisions, DII and above, is any travel required outside of the general Corpus Christi area.
