Southeastern WI Spartans: Camps & Links

Brian Butch Basketball Camps 2011
If you go to Brian's Facebook page you will be able to download a camp flyer and registration form. I have no inside info on this camp but it fills a niche in SE WI in that it targets post-player development. Here is the text of an email that the former Badger standout sent around to the youth coaching circuit in March 2011 --

Hi, My name is Brian Butch:

I am running three basketball camps this summer at Player’s Choice of the Fox Cities. The first camp will be The Brian Butch Post Skills Camp June 6th-10th, 2011, it is for boys going into grades 7th -12th. There will be two sessions; the first session is for boys going into 7th- 9th grade. The time of that session is 8-10 am. The second session is for boys going into 10th-12th grade. The session times for that are 10-12. The goal for this camp is to teach kids low post moves as well as to strive to teach them how to compete on the basketball floor.

The next camp is The Brian Butch Skills Advancement Camp for Girls June 13-17th, 2011. The age breakdown and session times are the same. It is my goal for this camp to show the girls new skill sets as well as to show them the importance of focusing on competing as well as doing the little things right.

The last camp that I will be running will be The Brian Butch Skills Advancement Camp for Boys June 20th-24th, 2011. Again the age breakdown and session times will be the same. It is my goal for this camp to teach the boys some new skill sets as well as the importance to compete in everything you do on the basketball floor.

Also, included in the camp will be a 3 month workout program that I will design and a t-shirt. It will include a daily workout for the camper. One of the toughest things that I had to do when I was younger was to come up with workouts and ways for me to get better. I would like to create a plan for the campers so they have a schedule to follow. That way, in order to reach their goals and improve, they just have to put the work in and follow the program.

The main reason for the camp is to give back to each camper. Throughout my career the community has been extremely supportive of me and this is my opportunity to give back to the young athletes of the community. My hope is to give the campers the tools that they need to succeed at the next levels as well as to tell them some of my stories from the various places that I have played.

Mary Chrnelich-Nellen 1-on-1 Teaching Hoops
Mary does an excellent job with skills teaching and providing a competitive environment. She can be reached at 414- 418-3972. Go to her website monthly for posting of workout times.

Jason Otter's School of Basketball
This is the best ballhandling camp I've seen in the area. The weeklong camp is very intense and exhausting. Players work hard in the camp and have "homework" at night.

Don Gosz Basketball Camps
This shooting camp is pretty good. They will videotape each players' shot and use the video as a teaching tool to correct fundamental weaknesses in the shot. Players are taught what they're doing wrong and how to self-correct.

Wisconsin Lakers Basketball Club
This is a great, local, quality, affordable club. The Elles do an excellent job as teachers of the game. Their teams usually win, as well.

Dick Luther Basketball Camps
Dick Luther was my grade school coach and he is still at it. Coach does a nice job teaching the fundamentals, especially to younger players.

The Mike Saylor Basketball Workout
Saylor, an Ohio State standout, has offered his workout regime for several years now. I think it is the single best basketball workout program out there because a) a player can learn to do it on their own, and b) the progress is measurable from session to session.

The Focused Shooter
Sound approach to teaching great shooting.
