Southeastern WI Spartans: Welcome

I could spend all day every day in a gym

The Spartans is a youth girls basketball organization established to draw together serious players competing on school feeder teams throughout Southeastern Wisconsin so that they can challenge themselves against quality competition each summer. Practices are held in the Waukesha area, and the teams play tournaments in Wisconsin and bordering states from May through August.

We'll Be Back

The Spartans are taking a break. We'll be back someday. In the meantime, contact Geoff at 414-331-8374 with questions and check out our "Camps & Links" page because we are regularly updating that post.

Message From the Club Director:

Like many Dads, I began coaching my daughters in basketball. The year was 2001. After they moved on to other coaches, the whole coaching thing sort of stuck with me. So I kept coaching. Through the years I have attended numerous coaching clinics, coached many different age levels, coached "A" and "B" players and even some "AAU" talent. I use the term "AAU" carefully because it carries with it some gravitas -- and some negativity. AAU stands for Amateur Athletic Union. It is presumably where the best players come together to form super-teams and play each other. But if you've ever read George Dohrmann's "Play Their Hearts Out" you then understand that sometimes the competitiveness of AAU can attract coaches who are in it for the wrong reasons. I founded the Spartans for the right reasons -- 1) A love of coaching, 2) The fulfillment that comes from helping players improve and realize their potential, and 3) A goal of helping young people recognize that desire and hard work, more than anything else, determine their success. I tell players that they need to have a plan, but that they need to focus their energy on doing "the next right thing." On the court and in life. The focus should always be on the Team not the Individual. Period. When it comes to the youth Game, the focus is on fundamentals skills development. Teams comprised of skilled players who do the next right thing are also Teams that win. Hopefully you share this philosophy. If you do, the Spartans may be for you.

Come Here For Information on Summer Teams and Camps!

Thursday, March 4, 2011 -- Two summers have passed since the last SE WI Spartans teams took to the courts, but I have kept coaching and continue to take an interest in the development of players I have coached.

To that end, I've decided to use this site as a one-stop shop for information on quality summer programs and camps. Please check back periodically for postings of camps, teams and links to other websites that are committed to developing Wisconsin's youth basketball talent. The focus, of course, will be on teams and camps that are a short drive from Milwaukee. Check the "Camps & Links" section for updates.

If you have questions regarding any information I have posted, please don't hesitate to call me at (414) 331-8374 or email me at
