The Annandale Sparks are a U-17 girls soccer team in the 2003-2004 season based in Northern Virginia. We compete in the prestigious Washington Area Girls Soccer League (WAGS) at the Division 1 level. WAGS teams from our age group have been national finalists the past three years. We are associated with the Annandale Boys & Girls Club.

Our head coach is Ann Germain, a member of the original U.S. Women's National Soccer Team. To learn more about Coach Ann, check out the "Meet our coach" section of the Web site. The Sparks played their first WAGS match - under Coach Ann - in Spring 1996. After 16 seasons in WAGS - some 155 games - our overall league record is 66-58-31, with 2 divisional championships. Thirteen of the seasons have been in Division 1 against the elite of the age group.

Coach Ann's training has really paid off over the past eight seasons. In Fall 2000, the Sparks went undefeated in WAGS League play and moved into Division 1. They've played there ever since. Our outdoor record is 90-57-39, including WAGS League, top tournaments and State Cup matches during that stretch. The Sparks have won or tied 70% of our games against the toughest of state and regional competition during this period.

The Sparks have won three tournaments and been a Finalist in two others during the 2003-2004 U-17 year. This year's tournament successes:

· CHAMPIONS: Jefferson Cup U-17 Premier Flight: March 2004
· CHAMPIONS: Greensboro Nike Labor Day Shootout (U-18 Green Flight): Sept. 2003
· CHAMPIONS: Stafford St. Patrick's Day Tournament (U-17 flight): March 2004
· FINALIST: The Virginian U-17 "Virginia Cup" East flight: May 2004
· FINALIST: Virginia Girls Invitational (High School "Gold" Flight): August 2003

The Annandale Sparks were Virginia State Cup semi-finalists at the U-14, U-15 and U-16 age levels. The Sparks were defeated in the semi-finals at the U-15 and U-16 levels by the two-time national runner-up.
