An Open Letter to Federal Way American Little League Parents

April 1st, 2009

Dear FWALL Parents:

We are excited about the start of another great baseball season and hope your child(ren) is  having fun and improving their baseball skills.  As we prepare to start our game schedule for all divisions, we look forward to days of sunshine and dry fields.

You may have recently read or heard that our league is involved in a police investigation regarding possible improprieties regarding our finances.  Be assured that the Board has fully cooperated with the police and has taken the appropriate steps to protect the League's assets.

We also want to assure you this activity has no impact in our ability to function as a league.  For the first time in several years, we have actually experienced a slight increase in the number of players in our league and believe we have an excellent array of coaches to lead our young players.

Though we have had an increase in registration, we have also seen an increase in the need for scholarships and a decrease in some of our non-registration income (such as sponshorships, grants, and other fund-raising activities).  This, along with the need to upgrade much of our equipment in the lower divisions means that we will operate at a loss for this fiscal year.

There are many ways that you may be able to help alleviate this short-term deficit.  Please encourage local businesses to support Little League through sponsorships or direct contributions of goods and services.  Also, many companies offer support of their employees' favorite non-profit agencies.  For example, Microsoft will not only match charitable donations but will also match their employee's time with a monetary gift.

FWALL is one of the specific organizations that Boeing allows their employees to direct their Good Neighbor contributions to.  Please contact your employer to see if there is any way that they could help you support Little League Baseball.

Though this has been a difficult time, the Board is committed to ensuring that Federal Way American Little League will have a successful season and will continue to be a valuable asset to the community in central Federal Way.  If you have any specific questions, please contact any of your Board Members (if you are not aware of any, please ask your coach for contact information).

Thank you for your continued support of Little League Baseball.
