It is with deep regret that the Greater Manassas Softball Association is closing it's doors.
After 16 years of providing a place for the young ladies in the Manassas area to learn not only the game of softball, but life lessons.....make life long friends and just have a good time, GMSA has reached a point where girls are just not playing softball in the City of Manassas.
We have had decreasing numbers for the past 5 years and now are not able to field one team.
I have been involved with GMSA in some form since 1999, as a parent, assistant coach, head coach, board member and president. I have watched some of the best players to come out of Northern Virginia (yes they played for GMSA). We have had players start out at the t-ball level and play thru 16u, play for their middle school teams, high school teams and then go on to play college ball. (we even have a former GMSA star playing in the Women's Professional Fastpitch League). Over the years, our All-Star teams have won numerous Babe Ruth district Championships, Babe Ruth State Championships, Babe Ruth Southeast Region Championships, a Babe Ruth 12u National Invitational Championship, a Babe Ruth 12u World Series Championship and a Babe Ruth 16u World Series Championship.
The Manassas area is loosing a piece of its' history and for that I appologize.
My hope is that at some point down the road, either this league or another will once again be able to provide softball to the girls in the Manassas area.
Thank you, Tom Bailey
