Varsity Titans move into Sectional Semifinal game against East St. Louis.
TROY — All season long Tyler Thurston has deferred to his younger Chatham Glenwood High School teammates, at least in the scoring department. But before Friday night’s Class 3A Troy Triad Regional championship game against Central State Eight Conference opponent Jacksonville, Glenwood boys basketball coach Todd Blakeman let Thurston know that he would be counted on for more offense. Thurston delivered. The 6-foot-4 senior point guard had 12 points and nine rebounds as the Titans won their first regional championship since 2005 with a 54-39 victory over Jacksonville. The Titans play Wednesday in the Carbondale Sectional semifinals against East St. Louis, which beat Cahokia 61-60 Friday to win the Belleville Althoff Regional.
