GLBA SEEKS OWNERS
| The GLBA is
currently seeking groups or individuals interested in forming franchises in Michigan,
Indiana, Ohio, and parts of Illinois. |
Presently have teams in the Michigan cities of Jackson and Traverse City. We also have
three pre-approved markets in Michigan (Adrian, Flint, and Monroe) which get in under
special guidelines.
Forming, owning, and operating a franchise is simply a hobby! While simply a hobby and
recreation, each franchise is business. They are expected to be a legally registered
business which is owned and operated seperate from the Great Lakes Basketball Association.
Expected costs for operating a franchise include league fees/dues, uniforms, souvenirs,
gym rental for games and practices, travel expenses if applicable, liability insurance,
printing (i.e. letterhead, envelopes, business cards, posters, tickets, game programs,
banners), concessions (if applicable), etc.. Helping to offset the costs they will
attract fans to their games, sell tickets for admission, sell advertising &
sponsorship options, sell game programs, sell souvenirs, sell 50/50 tickets, tryout fees,
etc.. |

WHAT IS SEMI-PRO?
Semi-professional is a cross between the adult Y-Center type leagues and the professional level leagues.
Everybody involved retains their amateur status, with little to no pay being received. From this aspect it is not any different than the Y-Center or city recreation type leagues. IT IS A HOBBY!
While a hobby, even for ownership, each franchise is a legally registered business that is owned and operated seperate from their league (the GLBA).
The estimated cost of doing business for a semi-pro organization is $50,000-$75,000 per year for basketball.
To offset the costs of doing business each franchise will attract fans to their games, sell tickets for admission, sell advertising & sponsorship options, sell game programs, sell souveirs, sell 50/50 tickets, etc.. From this aspect it is no different than the professional level.
HURRICANE KATRINA RELIEF
In the wake of Hurrican Katrina, as President of the Great Lakes Basketball Association, I (Robert Fillmore) would like to encourage you to donate the the Lions Clubs International Foundation. The LCIF is part of the world's largest service organization, Lions Clubs International. I am a member of the Michigan Center Lions Club and know first hand what Lions Clubs do. Donations to LCIF will be utilized by the local Lions Clubs effectively and efficiently. Further, as long as you state Hurricane Katrina in the memo line the donation MUST go to relief efforts in accordance to federal laws. I would like to encourage everybody to donate to the Lions Clubs International Foundation, part of the largest service organization (the Lions Club). For more information click on the LCIF logo.
