Falcons hold on for win over Panther Creek, 2-1
Today, the ladies really showed the character we were looking for all season. After a long hiatus from playing due to the weather and Spring Break, I was concerned how focused we would be. The team calmed my nerves with their play today. We played smart and after a little bit of "boom ball" in the first half we settled down and played to feet in the second.
In the first half we were able to take a 1-0 lead thanks to the hustle and determination of Taylor Ramchandani and Idalia Leyva crashing the net and gobbling up the ricochet off of the goalies hands. That play energized the team and had them confident again - something we haven't seen for a few weeks. The second half saw a little bit of a stumble when Panther Creek was able to capitalize on a free kick near our net. With the score 1-1 we were bruised, but not beaten. After withstanding an offensive onslaught that nearly saw the Catamounts take the lead, we re-grouped and played determined not to lose this game. Amanda D'Occhio put the game winner home into the side netting off of an assist from Lauren Hitchings, who worked very well at the forward position.
Hopefully, with the character the ladies showed today, we are in for the start of an exciting, and hectic, week with Apex coming to visit on Wednesday.
