Falcons take down East Chapel Hill, 2-0
After being thoroughly defeated by East Chapel Hill last year, we were looking to fare a bit better this time around. The first half started a little slowly, and we found ourselves playing a little bit of "boom ball" with the East defense. We had a couple of nice looks on frame when we started to settle down and possess.
There was a very nice shot from about 30 yards out by Maggie Moakley who saw some time at the defensive midfield position, but unfortunately it was just a little too high and bounced off the crossbar. Late in the first half Allie Symonds made a brilliant save protecting the net, but seemed to have injured her shoulder a little. After some half-time adjustments, the girls came out focused on putting this one away. From the start we played excellent possession and found the open feet. Melissa Periera and Sarah Spak worked a brilliant one, two combination starting on the left side with Sarah finding the back of the net for her first goal of the season. The second goal was not too far behind as Victoria Ward came streaking down the right and found the corner of the goal on an absolute rocket. The game was not entirely a successful outing though as Allie landed awkwardly on her injured shoulder and had to leave the match. We have since found out that Allie, who was already playing with significant injury will be lost for the rest of the season. The pressure will now fall to our defense and freshman keeper Meghan Ferriss to protect the net.
It is never easy to lose a captain, and Allie will be sorely missed, but we have to come together as a team and I'm confident the girls will give it their all.
