Falcons blank Wakefield in season opener, 2-0
We were fortunate to get this game in after two days of snow. The field was a little sloppy and initially, so was our play. After the first half, the score remained notched at 0-0. The defense played admirably while still adjusting to the nuances of the flat back four.
The real highlight of this game was the play of our outside midfielders. Melissa Periera, Jessie Rossabi, and Victoria Ward absolutely torched the opposing midfield who was exhausted after chasing them all day. Melissa Periera scored her first goal off of an assist from Jessie Rossabi following a corner. It wasn't the prettiest goal, but we don't count style points in soccer. Melissa's second goal of the day came off of a beautiful cross from Victoria Ward, which Melissa was able to punch home.
The second half really exhibited the level of play I was expecting from this years team. Hopefully we can carry over that confidence and performance to our next contest against East Chapel Hill.
