Elimination Game    Thu JUN 19, 2008    #1 Little Farms  10  -   #3  GIRARD  4

In an elimination game, the Little Farms Pirates built up a 6 run lead by the end of the third inning.  Girard got their first run in the second inning when Zac Lange reached on a fielder's choice, Matt Calcote walked and Garrett Schaff drove in Lange with a base hit.  The Vikings scored three more times in the third on base hits by Daniel Martinez and Ben Harrison.  But the Vikings could score no more.  The Pirates scored two runs in the first, six runs in the second and two more runs in the third.  Kyle Gardner was two or three, with a triple, Emerson Gibbs was two for three, with a double and Ian Jenkins was two for two.

Elimination Game    Wed JUN 18, 2008    #3  GIRARD  9  - #4 Bright   3

Also in an elimination game, Cory Barnes pitched a 4 inning one-hitter against the Bright Falcons enabling the Vikings to move forward into Thursday's schedule. Barnes walked three and struck out eight Falcons in pitching to 19 hitters. Mark Flake was the only Falcon able to hit safely against the Vikings. Daniel Martinez led the Vikings with two hits in two trips to the plate. Daniel Lahare, Colin Leroux, Barrett Juneau and Ben Harrison also had base hits for Girard.  Girard plays Little Farms on Thursday at 6 PM. The winner of LF-Girard  game comes back at 8 PM to play Miley for a chance to move into championship night on Friday.

Round 2    Mon JUN 16, 2008    #2  Miley   4   -   #3  GIRARD  2

While the Vikings were able to score their leadoff hitter, Daniel Lahare, to open the game, the Cardinals tripled their output and lead 3-1 after one full inning.  After the first stanza Miley had enough runs for the evening.  Girard only scored one more time, that one run coming in the top of the 4th inning. Tim O'Quinn went the distance for the Cardinals, pitching all five innings. He allowed two runs on three scattered hits. He did allow seven walks and his teammates committed three errors, but the Cardinals were able to overcome the 13 base runners and limit the Vikings to just two scores.  The Cardinals scored their 3 runs in the first inning on three walks and two base hits.  The big hit came from O'Quinn who drove in two runs with a double. The Vikings three hits were provided by Daniel Martinez, Barrett Juneau and Ben Harrison. By virtue of a loss Girard falls into the losers bracket and plays again on Wednesday. Miley remains in the winner's bracket and will play Pontiff on Tuesday.

Round 1    Fri JUN 13, 2008    #3  GIRARD  12  -   #6  Cleary   11

In what was clearly the longest game of the season so far, lasting almost 3 full hours, the Vikings pulled a victory from the jaws of defeat in a game many thought would never end.  It was a wild and wooly affair that saw seven different pitchers come to the mound; with 23 runs and 21 hits recorded. The game used at least a dozen new baseballs and kept spectators on the edge of their seats late into the night, long after the rest rooms had their lights go dark from the automatic timer.  The Rebels had a huge 4th inning after facing good Girard pitching for the first 3 innings.  In the 4th, when the Vikings finally got the 3rd out, Cleary had scored 9 runs. The lead was looking pretty good to the Rebels, that is until the bottom of the 5th, when Girard tallied 7 runs to add to the 4 they got in the fourth inning.  Cory Barnes came on in relief of Colin Leroux in the 6th, and gave up an opening single and a hit batter. With 2 on and no one out, Cory bore down and got a ground ball to force the lead runner out at 3B, and two fly balls to close out the inning and the threat. The outcome of the game turned on an opening base-on-balls issued to Zac Lange in the bottom of the 6th. He was bunted to second by Barrett Juneau. With two-out, Gage Weisdorffer came through with a single to right to score the game winning run. The offensive leaders for Girard were Daniel Lahare (2 for 4); Daniel Martinez (2 for 2); and Cory Barnes (3 for 4).  The Rebels had three hitters with 2 hits - Dale Smith (2 for 3); Frank Denny (2 for 4); and Ross Budenski (2 for 4).

2008 REGULAR SEASON (2nd ROUND)

Gm8   Tue JUN 10, 2008    Little Farms  10  GIRARD  1

Vikings end the regular season at 9-5-1 and will be the #3 seed in the Tournament.

Gm7   Sun JUN 8, 2008     GIRARD  11  -  Cleary  2

Sunday it was quite a ballgame through four full innings.  Cleary got a run in the top of the first and kept the lead until the bottom of the fourth, when Girard (9-4-1) tied it up. Ross Budenski was the starting pitcher for Cleary. For 4 innings he pitched no-hit baseball. For the first 3 innings Girard had but one base runner - a walk issued to Zac Lange in the 3rd.  Girard pitching was also good. Through 4 innings Daniel Martinez allowed just one run on three hits.  The Vikings changed pitchers in the top of the fifth, and Colin Leroux entered. Girard gave up its second run of the game on two Viking errors.  In the bottom of the fifth, the wheels came off the Rebels' wagon as they gave up 10 runs on nine base hits. Budenski surrendered the mound to Frank Denny, but that was not enough to stop the Girard base hits.  Twelve batters came to the plate for the Vikings in the fifth inning. In that fifth inning Matt Calcote was two for two, with a single and a triple. Seven other Vikings also had hits in the fifth.  The Rebels were unable to get another at bat as time expired before the bottom of the fifth could be reached.  For Cleary, Adam Coote was two for three with a double. Henry Pittman had a single.

Gm6   Sat JUN 7, 2008     GIRARD  11  -  Bright  1

At Pontiff on Saturday,  Girard (8-4-1) coasted to a win behind the steady pitching of Cory Barnes.  Barnes went the whole way, allowing just one run on 4 hits, as he struck out seven and walked three.  The Viking defense made no errors.  Bright's offense came from Ryan Roy, Tucker Herzog, Sherman Badie and Brian Bird. The Falcons scored in the bottom of the first, but could not manage to push across any runs thereafter.  The Vikings continued to hit well as a team scoring their runs on 8 hits.  Barrett Juneau led the way with two doubles in three trips to the plate. Daniel Lahare was also 2 for 4. The other Vikings with hits were Daniel Martinez, Barnes, Matt Calcote and Gage Weisdorffer.

Gm5   Sun JUN 1, 2008     GIRARD  6  -  Miley  6

Girard (7-4-1) got 4 runs in the first and two in the second and was looking good against Miley.  Miley got two runs of their own in the first, and single runs in the third and fourth innings. Then they picked up in two runs in the fifth to tie it up.  Each of the starting pitchers, Brice McDuffie for the Cardinals, and Daniel Martinez for the Vikings, gave up six runs and multiple hits, but each had to leave the mound after reaching their maximum pitch count in the fifth inning. Their relief, Brennan Davidson for Miley and Zac Lange for Girard, gave up no more runs, and the game wound up tied at six.  Girard returned to its double-digit hitting as a team and, collecting ten hits on the day. Matt Calcote, Zac Lange and Daniel Lahare each had two hits for the Vikings. The Cardinals had six hits and Brennan Davidson was two for three.

Gm4   Sat MAY 31, 2008     Pontiff  7  -  GIRARD  3

After three innings things were all even at 3 runs each. The Blue Devils got a single run in the top of the 4th and another in the 5th. The Vikings (7-4) were unable to get a base hit after the second inning.  Jordan Fontenelle and Cooper Gioe shared the pitching duties for Pontiff. Fontenelle got the win.  Geo record a save. The big stick for Pontiff was Ashton Liccardi. He was two for three. Six additional Devils contributed base hits. They were: Gioe, Michael Cusimano (a booming triple); Lance Liccardi, Kyle Scaffidi, and Connor Robinson. Girard's base hits came from Daniel Lahare, Colin Leroux and Cory Barnes.

Gm3   Tue MAY 27, 2008     GIRARD  4  -  Delta  3

Girard (7-3) began well, getting 4 runs in the top of the first inning.  Patrick Morton started for Delta and was throwing hard, striking out two Vikings, but giving five bases-on-balls before being relieved by his twin, Jordan.  Jordan stopped the bleeding, allowing three scattered hits while fanning seven in the next 4 innings.  In the meantime, the Eagles began climbing back, scoring one run in the first and one in the second. Then Delta scored again in the 4th, making it 4-3.  A key pick-off play in the bottom of the 4th by Ben Harrison, the Viking pitcher, saved the day. The base runner had reached second base and two hitters later, after the pick-off, Josh Ansardi dropped a single in the outfield that would most surely have scored the tying run from second, if not for the important pick.  Harrison reached the maximum pitch limit and was relieved by Evan Chacon. Harrison is credited with the win for Girard. Delta out hit Girard 4-3, (there's that game score again). The bottom half of the Eagle line-up did the damage with Gage McGuyer, Jason Cooper (with a double), Devin Beham and Josh Ansardi, getting the base hits.  Girard's three hits came from Cory Barnes, Matt Calcote, and Evan Chacon.

Gm2   Sun MAY 25, 2008        GIRARD  15  -  Jefferson  0

Daniel Martinez allowed but one hit, gave up no runs, struck out seven and walked two. His teammates collected 15 runs on seven base hits. They were assisted by 11 bases-on-balls given up by Mustang pitching. For Girard (6-3), Cory Barnes was two for three and Daniel Lahare had two hits in four trips to the plate, both of the were doubles.

Gm1   Sat MAY 24, 2008        GIRARD  14  -  Lakeshore  2

Gm8   Sun MAY 18, 2008      CLEARY  4   -   GIRARD  2

Cleary (2-3-1) wins a close game @ Bright on Sunday in the early game.  Branden Munster and Ross Budenski combined to hold the Vikings (4-3) to 2 runs. Girard did out-hit the Rebels 5-4, but came up short in the run total.  Daniel Martinez pitched well for Girard, striking out 7, but defensively the Vikes committed 6 errors, assisting the Cleary offense.  Girard also had 5 base-runners thrown out on the day - two at 2B; two at 3B and one at the plate. The Rebel defense rose to the occasion and made the plays.  Zac Lange led the Vikings with 2 hits in 2 trips.  Ross Budenski had 2 hits for Cleary.

They were Daniel Lahare 2 for 2; Evan Chacon 2 for 3; Zac Lange 2 for 2; Colin Leroux 2 for 4, and Cory Barnes 2 for 3.  Felix Abadin and Grant Barrilleaux had singles for the Indians.

Gm3   Tue MAY 6, 2008            Little Farms 2 - GIRARD 0

In the early game at Bright, the Vikings (1-1) and the Pirates (2-0) tangled in a well played and pitched contest with the Pirates prevailing. There were only 5 hits between the combined teams as the pitching was good for this early in the season.  LF got their 2 scores early as a base-on-balls, a hit and a couple of errors got the runs that were enough to seal the deal.  The remainder of the ball game went scoreless.  Emerson Gibbs got the win for LF as he scattered 3 Viking hits, struck out 2 and walked none.
