Topping 2007, when Girard won 2 Championships (U12 Girls, U12 Boys) - the 2008 Viking Soccer program won 3 titles this year. Starting out the run were the undefeated U12 Girls, who won their JPRD-East Championship last week. After a 1 day rain delay, the U10 Boys and U12 Boys took on their respective opponents - both from Lakeshore Playground. Both games were played simultaneously on the very muddy pitch at LaSalle Park on Wednesday night (2 APR). When it was all over both U10 and U12 teams were the JPRD-East Champions.

Congratulations to all four allstar teams, for a job well done!

The Girard Vikings U15 Soccer Allstars reached the JPRD-East Final Four, by virtue of a 4-2 win over the Lakeshore Indians at LaSalle Park.  Their run ended, falling in the semifinals.

Earlier in sub-district play, the U15's lost a heartbreaker to the Cleary Rebels by the score of 2-4 in a Shootout (game tied 2-2 in regulation).

In an earlier game, the Vikings had better fortune via the Shootout, defeating the Little Farms Pirates.

The Girard Vikings U12 Boys Allstars defended their 2007 crown, winning the JPRD-East Championship in the Final Four, defeating the Little Farms Pirates in the semifinal, and the Lakeshore Indians in the Championship Game by the score of 2-0. The Final Four semifinals had the Vikings defeating Little Farms 2-1,  and Lakeshore reached the final by defeating the Bright Falcons.

The U12 Boys reached the Final Four at LaSalle Park by defeating the Cleary Rebels 5-0, losing to the Lakeshore Indians 0-1, and finally clinching the 2nd seed by defeating Cleary in a rematch 3-0, which was scoreless and tight all the way down to the final minutes, when the Vikings delivered a barrage of 3 goals in short order.

In an earlier practice game @ Girard, the Vikings blanked Little Farms 4-0.

The Girard Lady Vikings U12 Allstars went undefeated and also defended their JPRD-East Championship on Thursday, Mar 27 at LaSalle Park. Previously, they defeated the Little Farms Lady Pirates and shut out the Lakeshore Indians.

Introducing the 2008 GIRARD LADY VIKINGS:

The Girard Vikings U10 Soccer Allstars went undefeated in 2008, winning the JPRD-East Championship in a muddy 1-0 battle over the Lakeshore Indians.  The Final Four semifinals had the Vikings defeating the Bright Falcons 6-1, and Lakeshore defeating Little Farms, setting up the title match.

Girard won their Sub-District with a 3-1 win over Lakeshore to advance to the Final Four at LaSalle Park.

The U10's played very well in early games, bagging victories versus the Little Farms Pirates 8-0, and the Delta Eagles 7-0.

Spring is almost here and Soccer will be starting up soon. Girard has an excellent Soccer program (all leagues are co-ed), and will offer leagues from ages 6 on up to 17. 6YO's will play on the Babe Ruth baseball outfield, 7 to 9's will play on the field adjacent to the tennis court / batting cages, and the older leagues will play on the football/soccer field. Especially in the younger age groups, we will need volunteer coaches. Please do not hesitate to help out.

Age groups 9 and over also compete in 11-on-11 allstar competition in the JPRD-East league.  Girard has had much success, last year winning both boys and girls U12 leagues, and runner up in the boys U10 and co-ed U15 leagues.
Please remember for soccer, your child needs to bring a ball, wear shin guards and if they use cleats, they must be soccer cleats (they have no front cleat, for safety reasons). Evaluations have begun in some age groups - please see the handout.  Age determining date is March 1, 2008 (age on that date).

Congratulations to the GIRARD 12U VIKINGS boys team, winning the 2007 JPRD-East Soccer Championship over the Bright Falcons with a 2-1 margin. The Vikings struck quickly, going out 2-0, and holding that score through halftime, allowing a Bright goal (and only goal of the tournament) late in the game.

Also winning their Championship - the GIRARD 12U Lady Vikings - with a 1-0 victory over the Lakeshore Lady Indians. The Lady Vikings won all three of their games via shutout. This very young team will return many players next year.

The other two Girard teams were also in their respective Championship Games at LaSalle Park on Wednesday, April 4th. (Games were moved from Tuesday due to the LSU-Tulane baseball game at adjacent Zephyr Field). Unfortunately, they fell just short of their quest, still however ending up as JPRD-East Runner-Ups.

The 10's defeated Cleary 3-0 to face Lakeshore, and the 15's defeated Little Farms to face Cleary in their respective title games. Especially exciting was the 15's semifinal – they were trailing 0-2 late in the 2^nd half and things were looking bleak, then the Girard GK blocked a LF penalty kick and the Vikings scored on the subsequent counterattack to get the score to 1-2. Shortly before the end of the game, the Vikings evened the score to send the game to a shootout, which the Vikings won to advance to their title game versus the tough Cleary team.

The 10U Team battled through a hard 0-0 game in regulation, and fell to Lakeshore by a 3-1 margin in the Shootout (via penalty kicks). The only time the 10U Vikings ever fell behind the entire postseason was after the 4th round of the shootout.

The 15U Team fought hard all postseason, but eventually fell to the juggernaut Cleary team 7-0, but like the 10's were still JPRD-East Runner-ups.

Overall, no other JPRD-East soccer program did nearly as well as our GIRARD VIKINGS - winning two Championships and being the Runner-ups in the other two. 2007 was a very successful year for GIRARD SOCCER, and many thanks to all the players and coaches that contributed to this great run.
