Girard Playground belongs to the Jefferson Parish Recreation Department (JPRD-East), covering the northeastern area of Metairie, Louisiana, along Lake Pontchartrain, in suburban New Orleans. Our park has been providing youth baseball opportunities to the community since the 1960's, has a rich tradition of success in allstar competition - and is back better than ever after Hurricane Katrina. We have an active participant (over 900) and parent base through the Girard Booster Club, and thousands of children have fond memories of their time at "Girard".

JPRD Eastbank Dixie Youth Preseason Tournament = Girard Royals win Championship over the Girard White Sox, 2-1

Girard Playground hosted a JPRD Eastbank Dixie Youth Preseason Tournament on the weekend of May 4-6, 2007. Of the 12 teams, it was an All-Girard Final, with the Royals winning a tight game over the White Sox, 2-1.
It figured to be a defensive battle, as leading up to the Final the Royals had only allowed 4 runs in 2 games and the White Sox, only 2 runs in 3 games. And so it turned out. The fans were treated to a great game on a cool, sunny and breezy Sunday evening.

Girard Playground would like to thank everyone who made this tournament possible, despite having one playground pull out at the last minute, and having flooding rains on our first scheduled day, forcing a redo of the the entire schedule.
Thanks go to Miley Playground (for hosting the first round games), our staff here at Girard, all the coaches and players, the parents and the umpires, and finally to Coach Derek Delatte, for organizing the entire tournament.
PS: If you missed the Championship Game, you can watch a rematch the very next day on Monday, May 7 at 7.45pm, where the same two teams will meet again in a Girard DY American League game!
The Girard Baseball and Softball Jamboree kicks off on Friday night, June 1st, after the regular season Dixie Youth Games with the Adult Home Run Derby!
Also, the Viking Cafe will be reprising their popular Fish Fry that evening. Come on out and have some fish, then if you're still hungry, you can get a little "ham" when the Big Boys slug it out!
Saturday and Sunday will feature a full slate of games on all five fields, and there will also be games and fun at the Viking Family Fest. The weekend will end with the kids home run derbies.
The weather looks like it will be nice, so bring a chair and relax and watch some good ball games.
