Back on Track

After two disappointing weekends, Arsenal looked to get back in form. The team still down with injuries to keeper Devin Foy and defender Chris Aguirre still looked to dominate the weekend opponents. One highlight from the previous league match was Terry Boyd, Juno’s dad, showing off his skills. While holding his new granddaughter in his arms Terry was able to settle a ball kicked from the field. Great to see the Boyd’s introducing the game at an early age.

The weekend began with a Saturday match against a revamped San Tan Legacy side. Arsenal knew it would not be an easy match. This was evident with San Tan leading twice but two goals from Joseph Clemente brought Arsenal even and gave the team a draw. Even though it broke Arsenal’s streak of the three straight loses, to the team it felt as if it was a fourth lose and they were looking at another Sunday match against Sereno the following day.

With the same side taking the pitch as Saturday against Sereno, Arsenal looked to turn around their mini skid. The match again was physical with both sides playing control soccer. After a few minutes of pressure from Sereno, Arsenal seemed to settle down to push their own pace.

Unlike previous matches, it was Arsenal seemed to be working and not giving up on any balls.  This was rewarded half way through the match when Alex LaPose pressured the defense and scored an opening goal to put the team up 1-0. The first half continued to move with Arsenal controlling and taking Sereno out of their long ball game.

With a half in the books, Arsenal knew they could not rest on their one goal lead. In the previous two matches, the team had also taken a 1-0 lead but ended up surrendering the lead and the match. However, this day seemed to show different outcomes. The defense of Tanner Clay, Ryan Holt, Michael Schellenbaum, and Zachary Nasipak controlled the back with excellent confidence. Except one shot that went off of the pole, the defense did not allow many clear shots on Juno Boyd.

The continued pressure of Sereno to put in a tying goal allowed for numerous counter attacking opportunities for Arsenal. One attack found pressure coming again from Arsenal and Brian Suarez gaining the ball from a defender and heading in on the Sereno keeper one-on-one. With a great shot, Arsenal found themselves now up 2-0.

The match continued with Sereno becoming more frustrated and Arsenal controlling the match. The final whistle blew and Arsenal had a much deserved win over Sereno. They now looked towards their two remaining league matches before Surf Cup.

Tale of Two Days - Part 2

After a dominant previous day, Arsenal looked to continue its path in its match against Texas Fire. Last year the team had lost on penalty kicks in the championship match to Fire and looked for revenge.

The match would begin like the previous year’s match. The play was quick and physical, and Arsenal was able to find their play and not fall into what Texas Fire wanted to produce. The match went back and forth with several physical moments. One produced a free kick for Arsenal with approximately one minute left in the first half. Michael Markette stepped up to the free kick and produced a great ball that just missed a goal and bounced off of the post. The ball bounced to Tanner Clay who then produced the opening goal of the match. It would be 1-0 Arsenal when the half time whistle blew.

The second half would be a totally different match. The match continued to be physical and the referee then began to brandish yellow cards to three Arsenal players like they were Christmas cards to relatives. The pressure from Texas Fire finally produced a tying goal and life for the team.

With the tide turning, it seemed like Texas Fire could produce a victory that would knock out Arsenal, who only needed a tie to advance on to the finals. Texas continued to press when Pasha Brown made a brilliant run down field to find Brian Suarez who dropped the ball back to Kyle Jarvis. With a great attempt, Jarvis produced a great goal and a 2-1 lead with three minutes left in the match.

The final whistle blew and Arsenal found themselves in the finals for the third straight year. This year, they would face the host team, Sereno 93, who were making their first finals appearance in several years.

The championship match would be all that would be expected out of a match between the top two teams in Arizona. Arsenal took advantage off an excellent corner kick that found Zachary Nasipak’s head who directed to Ryan Holt, who then banged home the opening goal. With two minutes left in the first half, Arsenal found themselves up 1-0.

The second half began with Sereno taking possession and dribbling down field to score the tying goal in the first minute of the second half. This seemed to bring life into a very rested Sereno team who were able to rest several members in the previous group match.

Like the match against the Texas Fire, the referee began to produce yellow cards to players, three more that went against Arsenal. Regulation ended with the teams tied at 1-1 and headed to extra time. In the two five minute extra periods, Sereno provided most the action but a header that barely missed the goal by Bo XXX with two minutes left in the final extra period provided the only viable score for either team.

The match went into spot kicks, which ended with Sereno pulling through narrowly defeating Arsenal. The loss was the first for the team since May, but was one that was fought hard.

Now Arsenal prepare for league play next weekend.

Tale of Two Days - Part 1

Tale of Two Days – Part 1This past weekend Arsenal participated in the 2009 version of the Sereno Pro Classic. With a championship in 2007 and finalist in 2008, the team was looking to regain another championship. The tournament began with group play with the top team moving on to the finals

The first day saw Arsenal match up in their first match against Santos, which was the third straight match with the team. Unlike the previous two meetings, the match would not be easy. The first half saw each team gain scoring chances but nothing that was significant. With only two minutes left before half, Arsenal was awarded a penalty kick off of a hand ball. Tanner Clay stepped up and put away the attempt, and at half time, Arsenal found themselves in a 1-0 lead.

The second half built on the final few minutes of the first half. Arsenal pushed and pressured Santos and eight minutes into the second half, Chris Aguirre found Brennan Redd on a quality pass, who found the back of the net, 2-0 Arsenal.

Before Santos could take a breath, Arsenal marched down the field again. Joseph Clemente served an excellent cross that found Kyle Jarvis at the far post. With excellent control, Jarvis found Aguirre making a run to goal. A nice pass found Aguirre who slotted home a third goal for Arsenal, 3-0.

The final goal put an exclamation point on to the third match with Santos and the final whistle brought a well earned 3-0 win for Arsenal. Next up for Arsenal was CDO of Tucson.

The match with CDO was the first match up of these two teams. The match began and the first minute would be an insight to the rest of the game. Alex LaPose found the back of the net but was a whistle blew to give a penalty kick instead and the goal was taken off of the books. Instead of a goal for LaPose, Clay stepped up and converted his second penalty kick in two matches. Within the first sixty seconds of the match, Arsenal was up 1-0.

From that point, Arsenal took dominant control. Goals by Aguirre (12 minutes), Pasha Brown (24 minutes), Clemente (30 minutes) and Bo Bechtel (38 minutes) highlighted a first half domination. The second half found players in different positions and the team enjoying playing and having fun. Without being cocky, the team continued to dominate the rest of the match a final goal scored by Jarvis and a 6-0 victory for Arsenal.

The day ended with Arsenal posting 9 total goals and allowing 0. Next up for the team was a final group match against last year’s champion Texas Fire and then the finals.

Late Field Goal Sinks Shut Out

Following a weekend of dominant performances against Cisco and TSA, Arsenal faced a single match against Santos, an opponent that had provided beautiful matches over the past couple of years. Under an overcast sky and great fields, the match looked to be another classic.

Unknowingly, the opening whistle not only signaled the beginning of the match, but also the beginning of the season’s highest goal totals. The team was immediately on the offense providing several opportunities that just missed a shot on goal. Pressure continued when Brennan Redd found Ari Sanchez with a beautifully placed ball that put Sanchez one-on-one with the Santos goalie. With one quick move, Sanchez put the ball around the keeper but was brought down by the goalie.

This resulted in a foul and a penalty kick was awarded. With the clock showing only 11 minutes elapsed, Tanner Clay stepped to the spot and drilled the opening goal past the goalie, 1-0. The goal did not stop the pressure. Bo Bechtel provided excellent balls to both Clay and Alex LaPose, who both put their shots just wide of the goal.

Midway through the first half, Arsenal brought in their substitutes who continued their rampage on the Santos defense. Adam Rodriguez put a pass through to a streaking Brian Suarez. Suarez battled one-on-one with a defender, and a poke by the defender looked like it stymied the offense.  But instead it popped to LaPose who went straight to goal. The ball in the back of the net at the 31 minute mark made the score 2-0.

Before the team and fans could catch their breath, Arsenal again found itself pressing towards goal. Sanchez was on a break away and slid a ball to LaPose. The ball bounced off of LaPose back to Sanchez who found LaPose still in the play. This time, the ball was placed right at the feet and LaPose found Pasha Brown and with one touch put it in the back of the net. It would be the first goal for Brown and now a 3 -0 lead.

The half ended with Arsenal making a significant statement and their largest goal total for one half. This total would not last and the second half would bring more action. The first sighting of this was five minutes into the second half, Sanchez found Joseph Clemente, who slotted home his third goal in two weeks.

The celebration was halted when the defense had a couple of breakdowns and after 232 minutes of shut out time by goalie Juno Boyd, Santos scored 7 minutes into the second half. Santos followed up with another goal 14 minutes later, and drew the score to 4-2.

The rest of the game saw both teams tired, but Arsenal seemed to rise up and scored three more goals, by Sanchez, Suarez and Bechtel, and Santos added one.

Even though the goals were late, it was the goal by Bo that brought the most celebration. As one of the newest members of the team, Bo continued to place his stamp on the team with quality passes and several shots on goal but without any results. Finally, with time running down, Clay found Bo and he slotted home his first goal with Arsenal. It also brought an end of the match and football like score, 7-3, and a return to the top of the league table.

Day Two of League Play
Cisco Match 09-13-2009

If the first match of league play showed the potential fire power of the Arsenal 93 Premier, the second match would show the workman-like attitude and determination of the team. Unlike the previous day’s match, day two of league play began at 8:00 am in cooler temperature and the team looked to continue their winning ways.

Their opponent for day two of league play was Cisco 93, a team that they had split last seasons matches with in league and tournament play. Cisco was a team that matched up well with Arsenal and provided a challenge each and every time they played.

The match began with the usual pressure from Arsenal. With several shots on goal, it looked as it would be any time before a ball would find its way in the back of the net. However that would not happen in the first half for the boys. Cisco was able to dodge each chance with excellent play from their keeper or shots that did find the goal.

The first half was headed towards a 0 – 0 score. With continued fierce play from both sides, the 40th minute provided Arsenal with a chance to break the tie. Brian Hoyt, the Surf Cup championship scorer, attacked a Cisco player with an excellent tackle that allowed for Arsenal to take control of the ball but an errant pass to Kyle Jarvis looked to remove the momentum for Arsenal. With inspiration from his “twin”, Jarvis pressured the Cisco defender to mishandle the ball. Jarvis was able to take control of the ball and found Alex LaPose making a run down the sideline and placed a quality ball on to his foot. LaPose then hit third gear and pushed around the Cisco defender to lock on to the goal.

At the same time, Ari Sanchez was making a run down the center of field to provide an outlet for LaPose. With a quick look, LaPose found Sanchez who then one timed the ball into the back of the net. The momentum of the match swung to Arsenal with a goal right before half time. The half ended with Arsenal leading 1 – 0.

The second half continued with Arsenal’s strong work ethic. The team had numerous chances but could not find the back of the net. Even though it frustrated the players, the final whistle did provide the team with the result they deserved. With the 1 – 0 win, Arsenal found itself on the top of State League table. They now prepare for a show down with Santos 93.

League Play Begins
Cisco Match 09-12-2009

The journey for a new season began with Arsenal’s opening league match against Tucson Soccer Academy. The team had a different look with goal keeper Devin Foy on the bench recovering from an ankle injury and Juno Boyd replacing him in goal. Even though Arsenal had defeated TSA in the last two previous matches, they knew that it is always a hard fight for any points.

The match began in the heat of the Arizona September day. With temperatures reaching to around 102, the match would be an endurance of players in the elements. Arsenal started the match with a quick shot from Ari Sanchez that required a nice save from the TSA goalie. The pressure continued on the TSA defense when Brian Suarez slipped a nice ball to Joseph Clemente, who found the back of the net with one touch. It was 13 minutes into the match and Arsenal had been rewarded for their hard work.

The first half continued with pressure from Arsenal but ended with only a 1-0 lead. The second half seemed to pick up from where it left off from the first half, and three minutes into the half, Clemente again finds the back of the net for his second goal, 2 – 0 Arsenal.

As the half continued on, the heat began to take its toll on the players. The speed of play slowed down but the intensity of Arsenal continue. With little over five minutes to play in the match, Arsenal ratcheted up the pressure one last time. A streaking Bo Bechtel found Suarez making a run in the box, and with a one touch flick over the head of the goalie, the ball landed at Kyle Jarvis’ feet and then into the back on the net. It was now 3 – 0 and a win assured.

The final whistle sounded and Arsenal had begun with a dominant performance for their league play. The team worn out from the heat, headed for recovery for their next match against Cisco 93 the following day.

Victors!!
Beach Fog

With a fog hanging over the Polo Grounds on Monday, Arsenal looked to establish itself as one of the premier teams in the region by taking home their first California tournament championship. After not being invited initially to the tournament, Arsenal had something to prove to the tournament officials and to rest of the teams at Surf Cup 2009.

The first target was United FC in the semi-final match. Emerging from group play without allowing a goal and they were beginning to be more confident offensively. This would be an excellent opportunity for Arsenal to see if they would become the “Best of the Best.”

The match started off well with United FC showing their speed and physical play from the outset. Arsenal slowly found their groove and began to play their match and find the opportunities to score. With a pace of back and forth between the two sides, Arsenal found a scoring opportunity and it was Tanner Clay that finally found the back of the net, 1-0 Arsenal.

The goal seemed to be like blood for the team. Arsenal stepped up their pressure and Kyle Jarvis sent a blistering shot just over the top bar as the referee whistled for half time. What seemed to be a match that would possibly be won by the team scoring a late goal now was a match that Arsenal looked to add on to its lead.

The beginning of the second half continued in the same manner as the first with both sides pressuring and allowing little room to work. About seventeen minutes to the second half, Jarvis was able to redeem himself and scored to put Arsenal up 2-0 and a birth in the finals in sight.

However, this excitement was stymied when a minute later, United FC scored a goal off of a throw in deep in the Arsenal half. This brought the team back to reality and the score line to 2-1. The match then turned to United putting extreme pressure on Arsenal looking for the score to tie the match up. United continued but the defense that had previously had not allowed any goals in the tournament stood fast, and with the final whistle, Arsenal was through to their first final in California.

For Arsenal, the last team between them and the championship would be San Juan Lightning. The championship match took place in the heat of the day (89 degrees) and Arsenal looked relaxed and ready for the championship match.

The match play was rough and edgy as both teams chipped at each other. Ari Sanchez of Arsenal seemed to attract the most attention with San Juan matching a man specifically on Sanchez to provide a way to slow him down. However, it was Sanchez taking it to the rest of the Lighting by providing several excellent opportunities to score. However, the half ended in 0-0.

As the sun continued to shine on the match, the second half continued at the same pace. Excellent saves from Devin Foy provided Arsenal with the continued hope of bringing back a championship to Arizona.

The match continued late into the second half with parents looking at watches trying to gauge the amount of time left and what would be next, extra time or penalty kicks. With five minutes left in the championship match, Arsenal made a surge forward with a ball curved in from the right side and found Brian Hoyt, the newest member of the team. With the confidence of proven scorer, Hoyt placed the ball in the back of the net and Arsenal could now taste the championship.

With only a few more attempts by San Juan to move down field, Arsenal controlled the ball and waited for the sound of a final whistle. The team continued to move the ball to the corners and with one last run, the referee whistled and signaled the end of the match. The final ended 1-0 Arsenal and its first Surf Cup championship. Players rushed onto the pitch to celebrate while parents celebrated amongst themselves.

The only thing left was to collect their medals and trophy before heading back to Arizona. Leaving the 83° of San Diego to drive back to the 115° of Phoenix was all the more enjoyable with championship medals around the players’ necks. They now prepare to for Thanksgiving and show everyone this was not a fluke but a reality.

Surf Cup 2009 Champions

A Win, Win Day (Match and Beach)
Bash Brothers

Day two of the competition saw Arsenal sitting on top of their group standings and only needing a tie against Norcross Soccer Academy to move on to the Semi-Finals. The other side of the field saw Norcross needing a win to move on, however, they were up against a defense that had allowed only one goal, and that was on a penalty kick, in the last five matches.

Arsenal started off with pressure but soon found that Norcross was up for the challenge. The first half was marked by aggressive play by Norcross and Arsenal not playing to their top ability. With only a couple of chances on both sides, the half ended with the score 0-0, but Norcross feeling confident.

The second half consisted of more pressure put on by Norcross but this half saw Arsenal begin to take more control. Midway through the second half, Arsenal struck with a goal from Tanner Clay and putting the nail in the coffin for Norcross to move on to the next round.

Norcross continued to put more pressure and looked to muscle their way to a goal. This was stopped on several attempts, one being the “Twins” double teaming a Norcross player as he tried to move down field. However, all the extra pressure forward led to opportunities for Arsenal on the counter attack. Unfortunately, Arsenal was not able to capitalize but with the final whistle they did find themselves moving on to the semi-finals.

Having played two matches the previous day, their win over Norcross signaled an end to group play and a day of matches for the team. This allowed the team to enjoy the rest of the day by venturing down to the beach. The beach provided the back drop for the boys to relax and enjoy the great California weather. However, they all knew they had another day of tough matches and they had come too far to lose now.

Next up for them was the Group A runner-up United FC and a possible birth in the finals.

Saturday, August 1
Cool Temperatures but a Hot Team
PK Save

After earning their first win of Surf Cup 2009, the Arsenal boys looked to keep up their winning ways against Marin FC. The sunny warm 81° afternoon turned to a balmier temperature with the late afternoon cloud cover. It seemed like the perfect setting for another win.

With a different line-up from the earlier match, Arsenal attacked Marin FC in the same manner that Chicago Wind experienced. The match consisted of excellent ball control from both teams and a defense that allowed for few scoring chances.

Fifteen minutes into the match, a challenge in the box was deemed by the center official to involve a hand ball on Gilbert and a penalty kick was awarded to Marin FC. On the verge of allowing their first goal of the tournament, Devin Foy came up big and provided an excellent stop and kept the ball out of the back of net. The save put the rest of the team on a confident plain.

Gilbert than went on the attack and with two minutes left in the half, Arsenal found the back of the net from a header by Pasha Brown. Only a few minutes earlier, the match seemed to bend to the advantage of Marin FC but through hard work, Gilbert was able to snatch the advantage and the lead. The half ended with Arsenal leading 1-0.

The second half continued in the same vein with excellent defense in the back providing opportunities at the offensive end for the team. Arsenal dodged a bulletin when Adam Rodriguez saved a sure goal off of the goal line. With about twelve minutes left in the match, Juno Boyd secured his first goal of the season and provided the final nail in the coffin for Marin FC. The final whistle secured another victory for Arsenal and the top of the table for their group.

Arsenal prepare now for tomorrow’s last group play match against Norcross Soccer Academy. A win clinches top spot in the group and a place against in the Semi-Finals and take on the title of “Best of the Best.”

Arsenal take Wind out of Chicago Team's Sails
Early Morning_1

An early morning greeted the 93 Arsenal Premier boys as they began play in Surf Cup 2009. This would be the first tournament which the boys would begin to attract college coaches to watch and evaluate them.

The team arrived at the fields at 6:45 am under morning sea cover and 60° weather to take on Chicago Wind National Black. With a spring in their step, the boys took the opening kick and immediately put pressure on the Wind gaining a corner kick within the first three minutes of the match. The team continued to put pressure but could not put away the wanted goal. The half continued with the Chicago team finding their rhythm and the match settling into a back and forth affair. The Arsenal boys did find their footing a little slippery with several players loosing their traction when trying to change directions.

The first half ended knotted at 0-0. The second half looked to be a continuation of the first with only a mistake from one team providing the edge and goal needed to win the match.

The chance came in the 12th minute when Ari Sanchez was fouled on the right side of the field, about twenty five yards out from goal. Newcomer, Michael Markette, provided an excellent free kick that found a darting Tanner Clay, who flicked it into the corner of the goal, 1-0 Arsenal. It was a goal well deserved by the team and one that would be the difference in the match.

The next eighteen minutes saw the Chicago team throw more players forward which brought more chances for Arsenal. Excellent up front play by Sanchez and Alex LaPose provided opportunities for Joseph Clemente, Juno Boyd, and Zachary Nasipak to add to the goal total, but they could not find the back of the net.  A last chance effort by the Wind provided nothing and the match ended with Arsenal gaining a well deserved win on day one of the tournament.

The boys then traveled back to their hotel for rest and food before their early evening match against Marin FC. A win tonight would assure the team an opportunity to move on to the semi-final match on Monday.

Make or Break Weekend – Part 2

Following a comfortable win on Saturday against TSA, Arsenal was ready to battle Cisco 93 for a trip to the State Cup Championship Match. The previous match the week before was an intense contest that brought thoughts of another excellent match between the two quality teams.

With the Phoenix sun bearing down on the teams, the match began with Arsenal providing most of the action. Through out the first half, Arsenal had several chances that continued to put pressure on the Cisco defense. Michael Schellenbaum hit the bar and deflected behind the goalie but found no one to put the ball in the back of the net. Pressure continued by Arsenal with Cisco having only a couple of chances.

The first half whistle sounded with the teams tied but Arsenal controlling the match. The second half began with more Arsenal pressure but ten minutes into the match, Cisco found what had brought them this far in the tournament and Cisco begin their own pressure on the Arsenal goal. For the next several minutes, Arsenal found themselves on their heels as Cisco pressed forward  and required Devin Foy to make several excellent saves to keep the score level.

With several substitutions, Arsenal regained their composure and control of the match. The team again created several scoring opportunities with Schellenbaum again hitting the post, Alex La Pose making a free run into the box but slipping before getting a shot off, and the best chance of Brennan Redd making a run one on one with the goalie but pushing the ball just wide. The pressure seemed too much for Cisco and that a goal would come at any minute. However, the final whistle came before the goal and Cisco and Arsenal moved into overtime.

The overtime was the second overtime match in two days that Cisco was involved. The pressure of playing in an overtime match seemed to favor Cisco but Arsenal came out with the continued pressure that they had in regular time. Again, however, Cisco battled back and wrestled control away from Arsenal and pressured the Arsenal defense for six of the first ten minute overtime period. It seemed that this could be a match determined by one mistake.

The second ten minute period of overtime began with both teams feeling each other out and neither team wanted to make a mistake that would allow the valuable, and possibly only, goal of the overtime period. With three minutes gone in the second period, Ari Sanchez provided a quality service into the box that was tracked by the Cisco goalie for an easy save. However, the ball found Sean Ayers who made a simple flick and as the ball found the back of the net, the Arsenal fans jumped in joy for the lead.

The goal provided Arsenal with a 1-0 lead but there was still six minutes left in the overtime period. With the goal, Cisco was made to throw everything they had at Arsenal. The six minutes clicked off slowly but with excellent defensive skills and quality position by the team, the final whistle sounded and Arsenal found them in the Championship match, ready to defend their title.

The match had lived up to its hype and now it was on to next weekend and a showdown with Sereno. It would take two wins for Arsenal to retain the State Cup and provide the fourth in five years. With the quality of play this weekend, it looked very possible for this to happen.

Sunday, May 10
Make or Break Weekend – Part 1

The GSC 93 Arsenal Premier Boys team went into their first weekend playing in the loser’s bracket and looking at each match as its possible last one for the year. After a previous weekend of a close loss to Cisco 93 on Saturday then a dominant win over AZFC Hammers 93 in a must win match, the team looked to begin the weekend with a match against Tucson Soccer Academy. TSA came into the match with a win over last year’s State Cup runner-up, Santos 2-0, and momentum.

Without looking forward to possible rematch with Cisco, Arsenal began the match on a positive note with Alex La Pose scoring an opening goal 45 seconds into the match. It was the start that Coach Drew Guarneri was looking for to push the team forward.

The team continued with their pressure with numerous shots on goal and coolness in the defense. Arsenal made their first substitutions about ten minutes into the match. Danny Berzins, coming off of knee surgery, showed that he had not lost any thing after the lay off with a beautiful cross field ball that found Preston Baggett moving down the field. Baggett brought the ball down in full speed and found the back of the net thirteen minutes into the first half, and put the team up 2-0. The first half continued with more pressure but without any more goals.

After an excellent first half, Arsenal continued with their ruthless pressure and Angel Luna produced another classic goal with a shot thirty yards out that deflected off of a TSA defender and into the net. It was twenty minutes in and the lead had grown to 3-0.

The pressured continued on TSA, and with about fifteen minutes left in the match, Zach Nasipak found Sean Ayers on the top of penalty box, who then slotted open a terrific goal, 4-0. This goal allowed the team to continue with their pace and not have to push through the rest of the match.

Now TSA began to pressure getting back one goal with ten minutes left, but in the end it cost them when Ayers received a great ball from Bagget and scored a beautiful goal which brought the final to 5-1 Arsenal. With the final whistle, Arsenal moved on to a Sunday match with Cisco to determine the team who would play Sereno for the State Cup.

This brought the question of whether it would be Arsenal and their opportunity to compete for its fourth title in five years or would Cisco finally make it to the finals and get that much cherished Cup? Time would tell.

The Journey Continues
State Cup Round Two #1

The Arsenal 93 Premier continued their journey towards their fourth State Cup with a convincing win over SC del Sol Extreme 93 on Saturday afternoon. Unlike the previous weekend, a gale force wind would play a part in the match on the players and the ball.

Arsenal continued from the previous week with unrelenting pressure on SC del Sol. The first half saw the team create numerous chances but finding the back of the net was not successful. The team broke through in the 14th minute when Kyle Jarvis served an excellent ball into the box to Ari Sanchez, only for the shot to be blocked. However, the rebound fell to Brennan Redd at the top of the box and Redd found the back of the net with a great shot, 1-0 Arsenal. The first half finished with Arsenal continuing on the attack but not scoring again.

With fans returning to their seats after half time, Sanchez pressure the SC del Sol keeper you cleared the ball out of the box. The ball found Adam Rodriguez whole launched a shot 20 yards out. GOAL 2-0 Arsenal!! The goal provided the “blood in the water” that Arsenal thrives on and the restart only brought about added pressure.

SC del Sol restart looked to pressure Arsenal back into their end with a long ball. With pressure put on by SC del Sol, Preston Baggett found Redd along the sideline for a release point. Redd, instead of putting into the middle to Angel Luna, made an excellent fake up the sideline to find Alex LaPose with a great pass. LaPose made a move on the defender to slot through a perfect pass to a streaking Sanchez who found himself one on one with the SC del Sol goalie. In clinical fashion, Ari easily put the ball pass the keeper, 3-0 Arsenal, with 2 goals in the opening 3 minutes of the second half.

Sanchez’s goal was not the end to the pressure. Four minutes later, Sanchez found Jarvis on the right side of the box. One quick move and Jarvis shot was in the back of the net, 4-0. The goal only fueled the continued pressure of the team as it looked for more.

With continued pressure and composed play from the entire team, Sanchez brought the total to 5-0 with a goal in the 34th minute after a pass from Luna. Six minutes later, the final whistle was blown and Arsenal found themselves moving on to the next round of the Arizona State Cup and a match with Cisco 93 on Saturday, May 2.

The Road to Lancaster Begins

Under the brilliant sunshine of an Arizona Spring day, the defending club state champions, the GSC 93 Arsenal Premier Boys team, began their defense of their most recent state crown. With the addition of five new players to last year’s roster, the team looked ready to again claim their fourth state crown in five years.

The first match in the state tournament pitted the team against Mesa United Soccer Club 93, which had defeated Banat 2-1 the prior evening in a play in game. United came into the match missing one if its top players, Josh Stern, who was suspended after scoring the go ahead goal and then receiving his second yellow of the night. With his speed lost, Mesa was in for an uphill battle.

The match began with the Arsenal boys taking control early. Arsenal looked very poised as they began to attack the United goal repeatedly with excellent passes and shots that were just missing. With five minutes lapsed in the first half, Juno found himself free down the right flank and served a beautiful ball into the box. The ball was played out of the air with a beautiful volley by Alex LaPose, and provided Arsenal with a much deserved 1-0 lead.

Arsenal continued to attack the rest of the first half but without any goals to show for it. With seventeen minutes left in the first half, Kyle Jarvis dribbled through several defenders and slotted through a ball to Angel who put it in the back of the net, 2-0. Angel followed his first goal with a second goal eight minutes later that deflected off of Alex’s body and past the goal tender. The goal made it 3-0 and half time lead that Arsenal deserved.

The second half began with the same pressure from Arsenal on United from the first period. With several attempts falling wide of the goal, Angel again found the back of the net with a laser shot from 20 yards out only six minutes into the second half. The goal made it 4-0 and the team began to attack like sharks in a pool of blood.

Four minutes later, Ari Sanchez weaved in and out of defenders to find himself in the box for a shot. However, a United defender fouled Ari from behind, and Arsenal were awarded a penalty kick. Brennan Redd stepped to the spot and scored easily past the keeper to make the score 5-0. However, this would not be the end.

A couple minutes later, Ryan Holt, provided the match with one of the more beautiful goals for the year. Ryan, from 40 yards out, provided a perfect pass to Ari, racing down the far side, who smashed it in to the back of the net to make the score 6-0. The last goal capped an excellent display of the fire power that Arsenal possess.

The rest of the game continued with Arsenal domination, with the final whistle ending an outstanding opening win for the team. With the win, Arsenal move on to face SC del Sol in the next road at Reach 11 on Saturday, April 25 at 4:00 pm.

President's Day Cup - Day Two

Day two began with one mission in mind; beat the current group leader, New Mexico Strikers FC and move onto the quarterfinals.

The third group play match provided the addition of Ari Sanchez and Kyle Jarvis, fresh off of their state high school championship win. The team welcomed the two back with hugs and congratulations, but that was soon dismissed as they prepared for the crucial match.

With the addition of Sanchez and Jarvis into the starting line up, Arsenal began with an aggressive attack on the Striker goal. Arsenal continued to press and 15 minutes into the match, Sanchez was brought down in the same position that Sean Ayres was fouled the day before in their morning match.

Again, Angel Luna stepped to take the kick, but instead of waiting for the team to prepare for his kick, Luna took a quick kick to a wide open Jarvis you slotted home an opening goal into the bottom left hand corner. Goal Arsenal, and a great welcome back from Jarvis.

The goal did not seem to be enough for Arsenal as the continued the surge to the end of the first half and into the second half. Again, outstanding play by Chris Aguirre, Tanner Clay, Ryan Holt, Preston Baggett and Adam Rodriguez became a wall for the Strikers found hard to penetrate. As the minutes continued to run down, it seemed Arsenal would be moving on into the quarterfinals. With the final whistle, it was realized. Next up, was the Gladiators from New Mexico.

The quarterfinal match would be one of the biggest challenges for the team in this new season. Arsenal was coming in with outsiders looking at the match with hopes that Arsenal would not be blown out but be beaten respectful. However, the team had different ideas.

The match began with a larger crowd to watch the defending State and President’s Day Champion take on the 3rd ranked team in the nation. The flow of the game was even with both teams controlling the flow of the game for portions of the first half. Both sides had excellent scoring opportunities but Devin Foy and the Gladiators’ goal keeper were up for the challenge.

At half time, the score was knotted at 0-0 and buzz began to circle the field that Arsenal was in the midst of something special.

The second half began with the Gladiators controlling the pace of action and 12 minutes into the half scored the opening goal that they had been wanting all match. The cheers from the Gladiator fans were now, “let’s put this away and score again.”

The mark was now set and dream looked vanished for Arsenal. With the kick off and some back and forth control in the middle of the field, Arsenal sent a long ball that rolled out of the end line resulting in a goal kick. It looked like options were becoming slim for Arsenal. However, that was about to change.

The Gladiator sent the goal kick into the middle of the field that was won by Zachary Nasipak and went to Angel Luna. Luna looked up to find Sean Ayres, who with a man on his back caught a streaking Ari down the middle of the field. A quick back heal found Ari who then saw Alex LaPose make a diagonal run to receive a perfect placed ball from Ari and brought him one on one with the Gladiators’ keeper. With one quick shot, LaPose rocketed a shot into the back of the net, and with that, Arsenal had tied up the match. The goal became the first one allowed by Gladiators in the tournament.

With new energy, Arsenal continued the attack. Five minutes later a shot from outside the box by Ari was blocked and an oncoming run by Nasipak saw a powerful shot just blocked by a defender resulting in a corner. And the attacks continued.

With less than five minutes remaining, LaPose made another run the almost resulted in the winning score. However, this time, his shot was deflected just wide of the goal. The two teams continued their back forth control until the final whistle, which meant spot kicks to determine the winner.

By this time, many of the other matches had finished and teams and parents gathered around to watch was becoming another win in the fable career of the 93 Arsenal Premier team. The two teams sent out their players for the spot kicks, with Arsenal first.

Brennan Redd was first for Arsenal with a powerful shot that the goal keeper misjudged. Gladiators were next and put their first by Foy. Next up for the boys was Angel Luna who saw his shot just graze the post and miss. The Gladiators then had their turn, but were denied by Foy who gave a quick, “I got your back” to Luna. Arsenal then missed their third shot with Gladiators making theirs and moving ahead.

Next to step to the spot was Clay, who had played an outstanding match in defense. His shot blistered past the goalie and retied the score. Needing a save from Foy, Gladiators looked in control but again, their fourth shot was denied. That brought about the fifth and final participants of the opening shots.

Instead of being on the defensive side of the spot kick, Foy took his turn. His kick sailed into the right corner without any problems. Now it was up to the Gladiators’ player to tie it up. Foy had already saved two shots, could he save the third? All eyes were on the goal as the shot was launched. Foy initially stopped it but the ball looked to be headed to the back of the net. With instincts from years of training, Foy realized where the ball was and stopped the shot. Arsenal and slain Goliath again and won the quarterfinal match on spot kicks 3-2.

With the win, Arsenal was headed to the semi-finals to play their instate rival Sereno to determine who would head to the finals. The win against the Gladiators again sent a message to teams around the state and country that the 93 Arsenal Premier were a team to not be taken lightly and to be considered with the best of the best.

President's Day Cup - Day One
PDC Day 1

With the ending of high school season, most of the Gilbert 93 Premier boys were back in action to defend their 2008 President’s Day Championship. The team began the tournament without Ari Sanchez and Kyle Jarvis who were participating in the high school finals that evening. Their first game was against Fort Collins of Colorado.

The match began with the team with team not looking confident and in rhythm. The team did not look like it just reassembled after a long high school season. They immediately put pressure on the Fort Collins’ goalie with several shots. At the 10 minute mark of the first half, Fort Collins was called for a foul on Sean Ayres just outside of the penalty area. Angel Luna stepped up to take the free kick. He served into the area and put it into the far back post to make it 1-0 Arsenal.

The boys continued to control the game with a couple of more opportunities. The defense held the Fort Collins with little or no chances. Devon Foy only had one shot on goal that he had to contend with during the rest of the match.

With a scoreless second half, the match ended with Arsenal notching its first win of the tournament. Their next match would see them take on Edmond Soccer Club from Oklahoma.

The afternoon match would play out in a little different form then the morning match. The team again controlled the flow of play with Ayres taking a shot on goal that caught the goalie falling away from the ball. Unfortunately, the ball hit the post, and with Zachary Nasipak at the goal line to follow up, the ball rolled to the falling Edmond goal keeper. A chance lost for Arsenal.

The half ended with a 0-0 score line. The match continued with a physical pace with Arsenal creating chances and not capitalizing and the defense playing strong in the back. The back of Chris Aguirre, Tanner Clay, Ryan Holt and Preston Baggett, continued to be the brick wall for the Edmond offense.

However, deep into the second half, an Edmond striker broke the wall and moved one on one with Foy. With a move around a diving Foy, the Edmond player put the ball in the back of the net with 12 minutes remaining in the match. The goal would hold up to be the winner even with an all out attack by the Arsenal team.

Arsenal headed into day two with one win and one lose needing a win to secure an invitation to the quarterfinals. A tie or lose by Edmond in the next day’s match, would assure Arsenal in first in their bracket and miss the Gladiators from New Mexico who just won the prestigious Disney World Tournament during the holidays.

PDC Day 2

New Year, New Team Same Results

The 2008-2009 season began for the 93 Premier Arsenal boys team in California competing in the NHB Cup. With five new players added to the reigning Arizona State Champions, the chemistry was an important issue set before the team.

However, the first day of the NHB tournament reaped the same results from the previous year. The first match of the tournament saw the 93 Premier Arsenal matched against FC Irvine Matrix. With the bright sun of Southern California and cool breeze, the boys set forth by recording the first goal of the season by Kyle Jarvis 10 minutes into the match. This was followed by a wonderful goal by Ari Sanchez, making the score 2-0 at the break.

The second half saw the continued melding of the new players with the rest of the team. After shot shots off of the top bar by Zach Nasipak and Jarvis, Tanner Clay recorded his first goal with a header from Jarvis’ shot off of the cross bar.

With a 3-0 win, the team entered their second match against Diablo FC knowing that this could be a very special year. Controlling much of the first half, Alex LaPose opened up scoring with an incredible shot from an improbable angle. LaPose was able to bend his shot from a 10 degree angle off the goalie's head. Another terrific goal for Arsenal, and another lead at half time, cemented the confidence of the team.

The second half saw the team continue its pressure on Diablo FC, with Jarvis splitting two defenders that was worthy of Sportscenter's Play of the Day. Brennan Redd, a player new to the Arsenal this season, wrapped up the scoring with a goal to cement the lead and the match, 2-0.

The two wins for the day put the 93 Premier Arsenal boys at the top of the table with the quarterfinals in their sights. Their next opponent in the tournament will be LAFC.

State Cup 2nd Round Celebration
Tuesday, April 29
The Cardiac Kids

The State Cup is always full of surprises and exciting matches. The time to watch two evenly matched teams engage in excellent play and hard fought battles can be very exciting. This type of match was witnessed on Saturday as the 93 Premier boys faced off against Tuzos Interamerica in a second round match.

This was a rematch from last year’s State Cup in which Tuzos brought an end to the two time defending state champion’s season. This was a match that the team had been looking forward to the entire year.

From the very beginning of the match, Arsenal controlled the tempo and flow of the game with excellent passing and aggressive challenges. With misses from Ari Sanchez and Angel Luna, the thought through the crowd was that it was only a matter of time before a goal would be scored.

Finally, with about eight minutes left in the first half, there was a misplayed ball that allowed for an opportunity for an opening goal. Seconds later, the ball zipped by Devin Foy and Tuzos was up 1-0. The half ended with Arsenal down but not out.

The second half was controlled by Arsenal. Attack after attack was thrown at the Tuzos defense without them breaking. Then, with ten minutes left in the match, Alex LaPose broke free towards the Tuzos goal for a chance to tie up the match but was brought down by a defender just outside the box. Not only was a free kick awarded to Arsenal, but a red card was handed out for the foul.

From that point on, Arsenal continued to pressure Tuzos. The only thing that slowed down the attack was the continued “injuries” that the Tuzos players continued to pick up. However, that tactic became their enemy. With less than two minutes left in injury time Tanner Clay headed home the tying goal to send the match into extra time.

The extra time began like the end of regulation, Arsenal continuing on the attack as Tuzos continued to hold them off. Five minutes into the first extra period, Adam Rodriguez rocketed home a shot that found the upper corner and sent jubilation through the team. Now, Arsenal had the upper hand.

Tuzos then began their assault on goal. However, the Arsenal defense continued to push them back. With under a minute left in the first extra period, a forward for Tuzos was able to spin and take a perfectly placed shot that found the ball just above the outstretched arms of Foy. The ball landed in the net, Foy landed on the ground and the referee blew his whistle to the end the first period. There was problem though, Foy seemed to re-injure his right knee, and possibly need to be replaced. But, with a heart of a champion, Foy, along with the rest of the team stood out in the middle of the field ready for the final extra period time.

The pace of the second period went back and forth with Clay saving a ball destined for the back of the net. Arsenal also had its chances with Pasha Brown missing a one on one chance with the only the goalie to beat. However, unlike the Tuzos’ team, LaPose came over to pick up the disappointed Brown and told him “Keep your head up, you will get another chance.”

Words of prophesy! Because, with less than two minutes left in the second extra period, Pasha found himself down the right side of the field alone. With one move, Pasha let loose a sizzling shot that beat the keeper at the far post.

Jubilation erupted as the team and fans knew he had just sealed the victory for Arsenal. With the ensuing restart and a few tries down the field, the referee blew his whistle and Arsenal had erased the defeat from last year with a 3-2 victory over Tuzos.

The win propels the team into the quarter-finals of the winner’s bracket. They face Cisco Wolverines, whom they have split with this season, on Saturday, May 3. If your heart can handle it, then come out and cheer on our Cardiac Kids.

Aloha Shirt
Tuesday, May 20
Aloha!

With the final whistle on Saturday, May 18, the GSC Premier 93 Boy’s team were crowned Arizona State Champions for the third time in four years. In a classic match against Santos 93, the play and precision of the team shown through with a 2-1 win.

Unlike their previous meeting against Santos in the semi-final round, the first half of the match did not give us any goals. The flow was even but cautious with both sides manufacturing shots on goal but only stopped by the two excellent goal keepers. At half time, the scored was knotted at 0-0. The second half, though, was very different. Arsenal came out and slowly established their dominance. Shots began to come a little quicker and the Santos goalie found himself having to make a couple sensational saves.

With about 15 minutes into the second half, one of the shots found the back on the net. Sean Ayres took the ball in the middle of the field, made a few moves and unleashed a rocket that found the upper right hand corner of the net, 1-0 Arsenal.

Unlike earlier in the year, the goal ignited the team and they continued to pressure Santos. With shots from Angel Luna, Pasha Brown and Alex LaPose, the team looked to score the knock out goal. That chance came 8 minutes later.

A simple pass to Alex found him up against the last defender. Both players went in hard on the ball causing the ball to slip pass the defender. However, the tackle found Alex with his back to the goalie, the goalie coming out to collect the loose ball and the ball bouncing. With one little flick, Alex flipped the ball over the goalies head and into the goal, 2-0 Arsenal. The smell of the tropics was in the air.

The rest of the match Santos threw everything at the Arsenal defense and like much of the season, it stood the test. Adam Rodriguez, Daniel Berzins, Tanner Clay, Ryan Holt, and Chris Webb stood to stop the charge. With 10 minutes left in the game, however, a Santos player found himself free and launched a shot to bring the score to 2-1. This attempt, though, was blocked by Kyle Jarvis as he headed the ball off of the goal line.

The defense continued to hold until five minutes left when a Santos player took a pass and launched an excellent shot into the goal, 2-1 with under five minutes to play. That would be Santos last real chance as Arsenal was able to control the remaining five minutes and the added three minutes of time

With the final whistle, the boys poured on to the field to celebrate, coaches hugged and parents cheered as the boys accomplished the goal set before them at the beginning of the tournament. The team knew they had defeated an excellent team in Santos. The skills of both teams made the finals an enjoyment to watch and may have proved a taste of the future of these two teams.

The team now prepares for the Region IV Tournament in Hawaii. They, along with the 90 Premier Boys and 91 Premier Boys, will be excellent ambassadors for the club. What an exciting way to cap off the year for the team, Turkey Shootout Champions, Sereno Classic Champions, President Day Champions and now 2008 State Champions.

Aloha!!!

President's Day Celebration

Entering the President's Day Cup, the goal of the 93 Arsenal Premier was to give a good showing after a long high school season. However, the final day of the tournament found the team in the semi-finals with a match up against the current Arizona state champions, Sereno 93 White.

Although it was the semi-finals, the match also carried an extra incentive of claim of top Arizona team in the tournament. The match began with Sereno on their heals trying to stop the speed and physical play of Arsenal. With their hard work, Arsenal found themselves up 2-0 until a unlucky hand ball was called in the box and Sereno brought the score to 2-1. However, Arsenal did not falter and continued their control of the match and were rewarded with a 3-1 victory and an invitation to the championship match against FC Delco, the winner of their pool play group.

The championship match found both teams reaching for the little extra to knock the other team out. The pace of the match suggested that one goal would win the match. Each team played a very conservative and attacked on opportunities that would not put the team in danger of a counter attack. A couple of outstanding saves from each goal keeper kept the match scoreless and sent the championship final to a shoot out.

Each team selected five players for the shoot out final. With a quality strikes from each player, and two incredible saves from the goalies, the championship came down to Kyle Jarvis for the 93 Arsenal Premier. With a successful strike, Arsenal would hold a third consecutive tournament trophy in their hands, and a miss would move on to sudden death shots. Kyle stepped up and with one kick, Arsenal exploded onto the pitch celebrating a much earned victory.

The victory and championship made a statement that the Gilbert 93 Arsenal Premier is one of the top teams in the region and the nation. It was another building block for more continued success of the team.

President's Day Cup - Day Two

The 93 Arsenal Premier team entered day two with two ties to their credit but needing a win to advance on to the bracket play. Unlike day one, the fields were drier and ready for the day's play. Footing looked like it wouldn't be the same problem as the previous day.

The first match of the day was the last pool match against Albuequeque United. Althought AU had been defeated 6-0 by FC Delco, they were able to regroup and surprise Veleno Arsenal with a 1-0 win. A tie against the 93 Arsenal Premier would propel them into the bracket play and send Gilbert home.

The match was controlled by the 93 Arsenal Premier. Ryan Holt opened up the scoring with a header off of a corner kick that found the upper left corner. This opened the door for two more goals, one coming off of an excellent pass from Daniel Berzins to a streaking Sean Winkler. With the final whistle came a 3-1 win for the team and a trip to the quarter finals.

The quarter finals looked like another massive test with the 93 Arsenal Premier matched up agains PDA Beckham from New Jersey. As a powerhouse back east and a New Jersey state champion, the match would be another test for the team in their quest for the cup.

Like the previous match, Tanner Clay, a defender, opened up the scoring with a goal in the first half. The 1-0 lead was taken into half time with eyes on a possible semi-final match up against Sereno Soccer Club. The second half found PDA attacking and throwing all that they had to soccer an equalizer. Again, Devon Foy and the defense stood up to the test.

Then, with under five minutes to play, Alex Lapose found the end of a long ball from the defense and made a move around the PDA goalie, and with the defender dragging him down to the ground, slid the ball into the empty net. Celebration for a great goal and the knowledge that the team was moving on to the semi-finals rung out on the field and the sidelines. With the final whistle, the 93 Arsenal Premier had defeated another East Coast powerhouse and moved on to face Sereno Soccer Club for a chance to play for the championship.

With the second day finished, it looked as if the team would be moving on to capturing their third straight tournment. However, an injury to Angel Luna would keep him out of the semi-finals and possibly the championship. An important part of the team's run, the team would learn to come together even more during this time.

President's Day Cup - Day One

The last time the 93 Arsenal Premier team walked off of the field together, it was Thanksgiving weekend after capturing the Las Vegas Turkey Shootout championship. With players representing their high school teams for last two months, the boys were ready to get back to work and build on their success from earlier in the year. Their first test was President's Day Cup.

Although finishing as finalist in last year's competition, this year's draw saw the team placed in the same pool as the fifth team in the nation, FC Delco of Pennsylvania, along with strong teams from Nebraska and New Mexico. To move out of the pool play and into bracket play, would require the team to play some of their best soccer of the year.

The opening match for the team was against Veleno Arsenal of Nebraska. Playing on a pitch that was wet and messy from the prior weeks rains, the two teams found footing very tricky and position also difficult. Veleno struck first with a first half goal that was sent into the back of the net off of a defenders foot. Although down 1-0, the 93 Arsenal Premier continued to dominate the match and were rewarded with a second half goal from Ago to tie the match. The first pool match ended in 1-1 with the next match against FC Delco of Pennsylvania.

The second match of the day pitted a confident FC Delco squad that had won their opening match 6-0 against Albuquerque United. The match was very physical yet clean with both sides having excellent chances, but each goalie providing excellent saves. Devin Foy was on the mark by stopping several point blank shots. After the final whistle and 80 minutes, the 93 Arsenal Premier held FC Delco to 0-0 score line.

With the end of day one of the tournament, the 93 Arsenal Premier find themselves in the hunt for bracket qualification sitting with 2 ties and their last pool play match against Albuquerque United on day two.

Premier 93 Win the Jackpot in Las Vegas

Many people travel to Las Vegas with great dreams of winning the big jackpot which changes their entire life. For the Gilbert Arsenal 93 Premier boys, they went to the Las Vegas Turkey Shootout Tournament looking to show they should have a place at the table with the top teams in the West. They left with more than that.

After spending a Happy Thanksgiving at the local buffet, the tournament began for the team with a match against the host club, Neusport. In the wind of Las Vegas, the team was able to establish control through out the match which lead to a 1-0 win. It was then a evening showdown with City of Bell Hawks, from Cal South, and battled to a 1-1 draw. Although not the best of matches, the team dominated the game on both ends of the field.

Saturday was two more matches, beginning with an early afternoon match against Blast SC. Through a physical match, the team came away with a 0-0 tie leading into the evenings match against Sparta United from Utah. The evening match was a total domination with the boys scoring 4 goals and not allowing any.

With the evening win, the 93 Premier were in the tournament final to play on Sunday afternoon. There opponents were the defending champion MTM Armenia. This would be a key challenge for the team after pool play that saw them score 5 goals and only give up 1. Like the Sereno Classic, they moved into the finals with superb defense.

The final against MTM Armenia was the perfect setting for the 93 Premier team to put a stamp on their place at the table. The team did just that with an opening goal within the first minute of the match. At that point, MTM Armenia were put on their heals and had to battle back to stay in the match. The 93 Premier were  up twice by two goals. With under a couple of minutes to play, MTM were given a penalty kick that they coverted and brought the score to 3-2. However, a couple of minutes later, the official blew his whistle and the boys celebrated with the tournament championship.

This was an excellent way to head into the high school soccer break. With back to back tournament wins, the team looks to be moving in the right direction going into the high school soccer season.

With the win, the team was able to push away from the "table" with not only respect but also the grand prize. What a way to leave Las Vegas.

It was an excellent weekend of play for all the boys. Each contributed to the overall success to the championship. The next challenge for the boys will be the Turkey Shootout in Las Vegas over Thanksgiving weekend.
