There are some changes to our registration and draft procedures for the 2016 season (and beyond) that we want to make everyone aware of at this time.
On November 13th, Little League International announced a change to the method used to determine league age for all baseball divisions. Below is the critical information:
IMPORTANT NOTE - THESE CHANGES ONLY APPLY TO BASEBALL DIVISIONS.
Little League International is changing the date used to determine league age for all players in baseball divisions from December 31st to August 31st, this change will take effect incrementally.
For players born on or before April 30, 2005: The new age determination date of August 31st will be effective starting with the 2018 Little League Baseball Season. For the 2016 and 2017 seasons, these players will use the April 30th age determination date.
For players born between May 1, 2005 and August 31, 2005: The new age determination date of August 31st will be effective starting with the 2019 Little League Baseball Season. For the 2016, 2017, 2018 season, these players will use the April 30th age determination date.
For players born on or after September 1, 2005: The August 31st age determination date will be effective immediately, starting with the 2016 season. This was the implementation used for the 2015 season, with players turning 4 to 9 years old during the 2015 calendar year to use the December 31st age determination date. That implementation remains in place, except instead of using December 31st, you will use August 31st
Little League International is making this change gradually to ensure no player loses their 12 year-old season of Little League Baseball.

Further, to address the issues/concerns surrounding the 2015 season draft, and at the requirement of District 2 and Western Region Headquarters, we are modifying our draft procedure for 2016 and beyond for the baseball divisions.
Gig Harbor Little League is actually operated as two separate Little League Charters, GHLL American and GHLL National. These are two separate leagues/charters operating under one board of directors as allowed by Little League rules. In keeping with Little League rules, the Executive Board has elected to utilize the Odd-Even Birthdate Method (i.e. day of the month - 1 through 31) for determining the League (American or National) for which a player will be eligible. Both past and new players entering the league, in ALL divisions, will be place in the respective League, for the remaining duration of his or her GHLL career, as outlined below:
For the 2016 season (and beyond), all players entering or returning to the league with Odd Birthdates will be designated as a National League player and be eligible for draft to a National League team only.
For the 2016 season (and beyond), all players entering or returning to the league with Even Birthdates will be designated as an American League player and be eligible for draft to an American League team only.
For the 2016 season (and beyond) each team will be completely redrafted (i.e. there will be no “property players” in the Majors Division).
For the 2016 season (and beyond), only Managers will have the ability to option their son/daughter.
We are looking forward to a fun-filled and successful 2016 season.
