Under 15’s  played at home against Dodgers Black. Lucky for our boys the weather was good and Dodgers were able to come over as all the junior games in the Hutt had been cancelled due to bad weather.

As our pitcher Henry Smith was away and young Levi Harman who is also eligible to play in the Under 13 grade took the mound.

With an amazing start young Levi took 3 strike outs and gave up 2 hits which enabled Dodgers to get in 2 runs.  However the Giants boys bounced right back with some power hitting from Chaz Matthews, Jessie Brown  Sam Allan, and Mike McDermott with Jessie having 4 hits from 4 turns at bat.

Coaches Joe Persico and John Marsh certainly worked the boys hard with some excellent base running. Some good steals coming from Jessie Brown, Sam Allan, Chanlaq’par Aporo and Hendrix Kora.

Dodgers scored another run with Giants scoring 6 more runs making the final score 20-3. Player of the Day went to Levi Harman for pitching and taking on this role for the first time in this grade and playing at a level beyond his years.

Giants Vs Te Aroha

What an exciting game this turned out to be.  Our boys went really well with the bat in the first 3 innings banging in 8 runs.   Some good hits by Daryl Pickering, Sam Allan, Chandrapaul Aporo and Henrick Smith.

However the game changed in the next couple of innings with Te Aroha making a comeback with a couple of runs in the 5th innings and keeping the spectators on their seats with 4 more runs in the 7th making the score 8-7 to Giants.

With 2 down and a runner on second we needed one out for the game and the cool level headed Henare Smith did a remarkable strikeout for Giants to take the win 8-7.

Some outstanding fielding from Mike McDermott and Kyle Pope taking several outs under pressure.  Also the catcher Jessie Brown was in energetic form stopping runners from advancing bases.

U15 Team pic

The boys played Hutt City United at home on diamond 2.

It was a good tight and exciting game of softball and they showed class way beyond their years.

They showed true grit and plenty of determination by coming back from being 4-2 down to take the lead and win 7-4.

Some outstanding fielding by some class catches from Chad Matthews, Sam Allan and Michael McDermott.

Also displayed was some excellent batting under pressure by Jesse Brown, Chaz Matthews, Michael McDermott, Daryl Pickering and Sam Allan to bring in 5 runs, with 2 down and time running out which took the team from being behind 2 runs to a lead of 3 runs.

Our pitcher Henry Smith was the Player of the Day this week for pitching consistently throughout the game and not giving up and did 4 strikeouts- well down Henry.  Look out next week a pitcher improving with every game.

As we all know a team does not gel or show good form unless they have the right people behind them and fortunately for the Under 15 boys we have the experience of two wise men from Joe Persico and John Marsh.

Joe and John do an excellent job passing on their experience and knowledge onto the kids in a very positive manner and communicate with them really well.
