GIANTS COME UP SHORT

The Giants Under 18 took there first loss of the 2009/2010 season, going down 2-1 to Wainui @ Wise park in Wainui.

Only second game for the under 18 team in what has been a delayed season, the bats simply did not fire.

Only registering two hits through 7 innings to Kawana Gaunt and Ashton Shannahan the Giants team struggled to put the ball in play against very good Wainui pitcher.

As the score reflects it was a genuine pitcher dual, with another good performance from pitcher/catcher combination Danny Brown and Campbell Gaunt. Sean Robinson scored the only Giants run, reaching on a walk, stealing second and scoring on an error.

Coach Ryan Shannahan said after the game “if you only score one run and only get two hits your not going to win many games, or at least shouldn’t” “Hitting will be the focus this week as strike out count was high and we rarely threatened”.

Redemption this week when the Giants Under 18 take on Cardinals at Fraser Park this Friday @ 6.15pm.

Dominant opener.

The Giants Under 18 team launched their 2009/2010 campaign in dominant fashion, thrashing Totara Park 17-0 in 4 innings at Maidstone Park in Upper Hutt.

Right from the first inning, Giants looked the goods and scored 4 runs in the top of the first inning. The bats continued to fire as the final score reflected this, combined with excellent pitching performance from Danny Brown, who faced 12 batters taking 10 strike outs.

Under 18’s next game is Friday night against Hutt Valley Dodgers at 8pm Fraser Park 1
